Witness Their Greatest Game. Theren, the first synthetic intelligence, has risen to power as the Director of the International Space Agency. They have everything they need to push humanity toward final acceptance of its synthetic counterparts. Thousands of SIs live on Earth, the Moon, and throughout the solar system. Yet opposition remains to Theren’s plans. Powerful foes rise, ready to strike … plans. Powerful foes rise, ready to strike back.
Jill, the second SI, forges her own path into the future. Only together will Theren and Jill succeed, but both synthetics have targets painted squarely on their heads . . .
Do you enjoy science fiction with robots, androids, virtual worlds, and corporate conspiracies?
Their Greatest Game is the sequel to First of Their Kind. Together, they form Volume I of the Chronicles of Theren, a centuries-spanning science fiction series that will force readers to question what it truly means to be . . . a person.
It will invoke the character driven feel of a tale like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, but through a narrative that slowly unfolds upon a scale closer to that of Dune or The Expanse. But at the heart of First of Their Kind, you will experience the hopes and dreams of the first synthetic intelligences; the first SI. The story is through their eyes.
Their Greatest Game is C. D. Tavenor’s second novel and the third published by Two Doctors Media Collaborative. C. D. Tavenor is also the author of Legion of Mono, a short available FREE on Kindle, and short stories such as After Inferno and Simulating the Senses of Trolls, as featured in A Million and One Magazine.

I was intrigued by the first book in this series and wanted to see how things played out in the second, and final book (which included book 2 and book 3 of the series). While I think the plot carried my interest, something didn’t connect for me on the character side. I think the issue was the MC being an emotionless being. I do think that an avid reader of sci-fi would appreciate the tech details the story delivers.
Having read the first book, I was still lost on a few points. The first being Earth’s environmental problems. I never really understood just what was wrong with Earth and why there was such a need to develop the advanced space programs. The second issue for me was Jill. Maybe I just forgot from the first book, but why was Jill so radically different from Theren? Whereas Theren seemed naive and innocent, Jill was vindictive and a schemer.
Again, I think an avid reader of sci-fi would get the most out of the whole series, since there were aspects of the characters that distracted me from enjoying the story to its fullest.
I thought this was a good read and I read the whole story from the very beginning to the very end.
I though the storyline was very well done and this is my opinion.
I thought the character built up was great and made the story brtter in my opinion.
I got this book for free, with an honest review freely given.
This is the second book I have read/listened to by this author. I enjoyed the first book in this series as well as this one. He has truly put a lot of thought to possible ramifications and social issues created with SI and AI. I like how the book, although prevalently in the USA, involves characters from countries around the world and later, the galaxy. There is a mystery that needs to be solved by Theren. (Although I mostly had it figured out, it was great to hear how the author come to the end.). They (Theren goes by the pronoun they’) feel the great weight of responsibility for all humans and SIs and AIs. Theren hopes to preserve humans and further the integration with SIs. This involves reaching out for other planets to inhabit. As expected, not everyone is of the same altruistic opinion and someone is trying to undermine them. Jill, the second SI has her own methods to try to achieve the same goals. They work together and at times apart.
This story spans centuries with very realistic concepts and outcomes.
This is the eighth book I have listened to by this narrator ( Benjamin Fife ) and I would listen to another. He has an array of character voices and clear diction. Although I never fully forget I’m being read to, he is very enjoyable to listen to, and helps the story come to life.
There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Story 4/5
Narration 4/5
As a part of a series, this is a solid second entry and a good, solid expansion of the world. With interesting plot twists in the first three quarters and an engaging interpersonal conflict between AI, it was a lot of fun. My greatest struggle was with the final quarter of the book, which felt a little muddled. The end of the book does expand on Theren’s sense of diffuse compassion and engagement with many individuals on many levels, but a few of the scenes intended to be deeply emotional fell a touch flat. On the other hand, the sheer resolve of Theren’s view on the future redeems the story, and the ending left me feeling uplifted, resolved, and ready for whatever came next as a reader. When a writer can do that for me, I’ll always be grateful. It’s definitely a book you’ll enjoy.
I was very eager to listen to this follow up Story and was not disappointed. There were parts that were a little more technical than I could fully grasp. The ending of this book was a bit sad but it looks like this Story will continue on to another book.
Everyone has personal problems, even SIs.
There are now thousands of SIs, not just on Earth, but across the solar system. Therein and Jill have risen to political power, each in their own way. As they pursue their separate interests, a distance that is not merely physical develops between them.
As they’ve developed into influential citizens they experienced many of the same doubts and issues that humans have.
This is a good follow up to the previous book. It is interesting and enjoyable; but I admit that I liked the first book better. I am, however, curious to see what will happen to Theren and Jill in the next book.
