She’s hiding something big. He’s hiding someone small.
Scarlet Crowley’s life was torn apart the day father was arrested for unspeakable crimes. Now the shock has worn off, but not the horror.
It’s a safe bet that Scarlet is the only first year at Harkness College who had to sneak past TV news trucks parked on her front lawn just to leave town. But college will be Scarlet’s fresh start. … be Scarlet’s fresh start. Clutching a shiny new student ID — with a newly minted name on it — she leaves it all behind. Even if it means lying to the boy she’s falling for.
Bridger McCaulley is a varsity hockey star known for being a player both on and off the ice. But a sobering family crisis takes that all away. Protecting his sister means a precarious living arrangement and constant deception. The only bright spot in his week is the few stolen hours he spends with Scarlet.
The two form a tentative relationship based on the understanding that some things must always be held back. But when grim developments threaten them both, going it alone just won’t work anymore. And if they can’t learn to trust one another now, the families who let them down will take everything they’ve struggled to keep.
New Adult romance, including sexual situations. Suitable for ages 17+.

A great addition to this series. More emotional than I expected. I absolutely loved Bridger! His chemistry with Scarlett is a slow burn that combusts. Hooked from the beginning to end, add in twists and turns, you won’t be able to put it down. Loved it!!
Again, love the series and the characters. Relationships don’t just happen in her books but they are built and evolve into romantic involvement. I really didn’t expect the ending.
Oh. My. God. This book was everything! It is definitely in my top 5 reads for the year, without a doubt. Sarina Bowen has been one of my favorite authors for a while, and I this is definitely a top contender for me.
Bridger… oh, Bridger. He was introduced in The Year We Fell Down as a hockey teammate of Hartley. Scarlet is a freshman just …
I LOVED The Year We Fell Down (See Jenn’s review here) and had just finished reading it when I found out that Bridger was getting his own story!! Bridger always provided us with a little comic relief during Adam and Corey’s book and I couldn’t wait to get more of him. You knew that there was a tragic back story to his life and I was curious to …
Read: 2016
Note: No formal review at the time but thoroughly enjoyed the college romance and drama.
Whooowee! I adore Sarina Bowen. I am constantly blown away by her books and the way she weaves characters, plot twists, laughs, and romance into one captivating story. She truly knocks it out of the park with ‘The Year We Hid Away.’ Our MC’s are tortured, brilliant, heart-breaking, and beautiful. Don’t miss this book. You won’t be able to let it …
Oh my goodness where to start. As this gorgeous story unfolded I fell in love a little bit more with this teddy bear of a hockey player. He is trying to navigate varsity as well as being the best older brother he can be to his 10 year old sister. Scarlett and Bridger are such a great couple and I was thrilled that they got their own story.
Wow
For the amount of angst and drama in this book, I laughed so much more than I thought I would. Bridger and Scarlet are absolute perfection
Holy hockey pucks, I was not prepared for all of those emotions coming at me. Almost had some water coming out of my eye holes. Yikes! Wow, just wow. I liked the last book, but this one blew me away. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to finally dig this out of my ever growing tbr pile. Seriously so good.
4 Big & Little Hidden Stars. The Year We Hid Away is the second book of The Ivy Years by Ms Bowen and picks up just a few weeks after The Year We Fell Down ends. Well, technically a few months, but the events are put into motion right after spring semester ends. Like the first book, this one is hard to put down. It’s so easy to become entangled in …
I was so excited about Bridger’s story after I read the first book. Even though he was a manwhore, he took his responsibilities as a big brother very seriously.
Scarlet is running away from her family and the drama that follows. She doesn’t know what to make of the situation and wants nothing to do with them.
These two bond over classes and …
I loved this book. It will melt your heart and you feel deeply for the characters I couldn’t quit reading it
Well developed characters making tough choices. I love the community that Bowen has created at this school.
The series is becoming one of my favorite loved the first book and was so happy that this book had the same formula but was a totally different story everything about this had me excited to get into my car and keep listening to this.
I really love the narrators on this one had me engaged the whole time and loved how they read the story.
This one …
I just… wow! So powerful. I love this book.
I loved this book. The characters where amazing and I wanted everything to work out for them. Great storyline
Wow read it!
Not what I expected of the story but glad it wasn’t much more interesting.
Great read from the first chapter to the last.
I like when a voice is given to both the male and female characters. It lends them depth. Likeable characters with flaws. Enjoyable read.
