The sport she loves is out of reach. The boy she loves has someone else. What now?
She expected to start Harkness College as a varsity ice hockey player. But a serious accident means that Corey Callahan will start school in a wheelchair instead.
Across the hall, in the other handicapped-accessible dorm room, lives the too-delicious-to-be real Adam Hartley, another would-be hockey star with his … another would-be hockey star with his leg broken in two places. He’s way out of Corey’s league.
Also, he’s taken.
Nevertheless, an unlikely alliance blooms between Corey and Hartley in the “gimp ghetto” of McHerrin Hall. Over tequila, perilously balanced dining hall trays, and video games, the two cope with disappointments that nobody else understands.
They’re just friends, of course, until one night when things fall apart. Or fall together. All Corey knows is that she’s falling. Hard.
But will Hartley set aside his trophy girl to love someone as broken as Corey? If he won’t, she will need to find the courage to make a life for herself at Harkness — one which does not revolve around the sport she can no longer play, or the brown-eyed boy who’s afraid to love her back.

I really enjoyed this friends to lovers storyline. Callahan and Hartley become fast friends while navigating through similar traumas. While they both have crap to shovel, per se, their chemistry begins to smolder. I was captivated from beginning to end and can’t wait to read Bridger’s story.
This was my first Sarina Bowen book and it made me fall in love with her writing. Everything about it was so good! I loved both the characters and their amazing journey.
I loved this book. I just finished it and want to read it again. This is one of those stories that is hard to put down. The two main characters Hartley and Callahan are “broken” but that is partly what makes them so likeable. They do things in their own way. Being “broken” does not stop them from living life to the fullest.
Hartley breaks his leg …
This was a sweet romance read and I enjoyed it a lot. The flow of the story was perfect, the side characters were great, there wasn’t much drama and the steamy scenes were sweet and everything Corey and Hartley needed. Stacia was a uppity and standoffish character but I didn’t hate her. She was who she was, and she might have been a little …
This is the book that made me fall in love with Sarina Bowen’s writing. I highly recommend them all, although I am still working my way through all her books. She’s never disappointed me yet! Such a good story!
I finally got to this. It has been in my tbr forever and ever. Such a great story, it gave me some feels. I’m moving on to the next one!
I was scared to fall down…
I was scared to read The Year We Fell Down…because I don’t normally like New Adult. I was scared to write this review…because I have opinions. I was scared to offend, misconstrue and write politically incorrect feelings and thoughts…because mine may not be the same as others. I was scared to point the finger at a …
4 Fragile but Strong, Shovel Your Shit Stars. This is the first book of the Ivy Years series by Ms Bowen. I’ll admit that I’ve had this book on my Nook for a long time. I’ll also admit that I’ve hesitated to read it for a long time. I’m always leery of books centered around the college years. The characters tend to be overly dramatic, immature, …
I adore this whole series but this was definitely my favorite. I adored Hartley. He is a top BBF
loved the entire seris
THE YEAR WE FELL DOWN BY Sarina Bowen
I have read a few Sarina Bowen’s books and for me when i go back in an authors catalogue of books and you start reading there earlier books sometimes they don’t seem as good as sometimes an authors writing gets better but not in Sarinas case after reading The year we fell down i have noticed that Sarina has …
I LOVE this author. Every book in every series just makes me feel better.
So good. Just read it.
What a great story of perseverance and love and hope!
I enjoyed this book.
I enjoyed this book. Callahan and Hartley were enjoyable characters and were easy to fall in love with. A page turner. I couldn’t wait until the end of the book but then hated when I made it. I would recommend this book.
This is a really good story with terrific characters with real life issues. I hope there is another book to tell what happens next.
Very enjoyable and sweet book.
Love this book.
I like the no/low-drama romance, Corey and Adam are great characters who learn to grow. They help each other get past personal hurtles. There is humor, there is steamy romance, and some pretty great character development.
