The sport she loves is out of reach. The boy she loves has someone else. What now?
She expected to start Harkness College as a varsity ice hockey player. But a serious accident means that Corey Callahan will start school in a wheelchair instead.
Across the hall, in the other handicapped-accessible dorm room, lives the too-delicious-to-be real Adam Hartley, another would-be hockey star with his … another would-be hockey star with his leg broken in two places. He’s way out of Corey’s league.
Also, he’s taken.
Nevertheless, an unlikely alliance blooms between Corey and Hartley in the “gimp ghetto” of McHerrin Hall. Over tequila, perilously balanced dining hall trays, and video games, the two cope with disappointments that nobody else understands.
They’re just friends, of course, until one night when things fall apart. Or fall together. All Corey knows is that she’s falling. Hard.
But will Hartley set aside his trophy girl to love someone as broken as Corey? If he won’t, she will need to find the courage to make a life for herself at Harkness — one which does not revolve around the sport she can no longer play, or the brown-eyed boy who’s afraid to love her back.

I’m happy to report that I finished THE YEAR WE FELL DOWN by Sarina Bowen, and sigh. I just loved it. I loved the college setting, and the heroine, Corey. Sarina took a bold step in making her heroine disabled, and it was a sure step indeed. I was intrigued with Corey’s own feelings on her condition, those around her, and how she would get by at a …
This book is a re-read for me. I love it that much. Callahan and Hartley are two independent characters I like with and without the love interest. The love though…gah, it makes everything better.
I love how Sarina Bowen showcases different types of couples and this book is a huge move in the right direction to showcase disability in romance.Sarina Bowen
4.5 Stars~
I have really gotten into hockey books lately, and Sarina Bowen has a thing for writing them, so needless to say, I have read quite a few of her books. While The Year We Fell Down has a hockey element to it, it doesn’t revolve around it, which was a nice change.
Corey had been a star on her high school hockey team, but a spinal injury …
Amazing!
Read: 2016
Note: No formal review at the time, but enjoyed the college romance and drama.

Let me start out by saying I’ve read this book years ago and actually at that time it was a five star read for me. However, when reviewing the book after reading it for a second time I felt like 4.5 stars are more suitable for me now. …
Well I don’t tend to read much YA romance these days not being so young myself but I started listening to this series recently and I am loving it. This is the first book in the Ivy Years series by Sarina Bowen. Each is a stand alone book but there are characters woven through them so it is best to read them in order.
The Year We Fell Down, …
3.5 Stars
This one was hard for me. I have such conflicting feelings with love triangles and this one was a struggle. I eventually really liked Adam but for a good part of this book, I thought he was a douche and I never got to the point where I loved him.
I did really like Corey and the other side characters in this story. I can’t wait to jump …
For much of my life, the ice rink was my home away from home. It was practically part of my anatomy, let alone my soul. So I could definitely relate to the situations the characters in this book experienced and the emotions they felt. It was believable, wonderful characters, and definitely a feel-good ending!
Just OK. Not memorable.
A feel good story and romance about helping another person… inspirational
I loved this book!! The reason as to why I like the story so much is that the story is a bit different than the rest just because the characters have a physical impairment. It’s out of the ordinary that the story is based on people with an impairment, usually, the main characters are nearly “perfect” (don’t get me wrong I like those kinds of …
I loved the characters and the way their relationship developed. Very sweet!
One of my favorite reads.
What an amazing start to this series!! Completely have fallen for these characters and everything Harkness!
Original. Not one bed hopping scene after another. A realistic story worth the read.
Loved this book. Terrific characters and quick banter between Callahan and Hartley make this story believable and refreshing.
I really liked this book. Minus Hartley being stupid and having his head up his ass for most of the book lol. This nook took me by surprise because going in I didn’t read reviews or knew about her injury thinking it was a temporary thing and it wasn’t. But it was a nice surprise because it gives you the notion that not all things get a HEA. But …
