This book is sort of a mash up of “brother’s best friend” and “small town romance” genres, and it works to make an enjoyable story. Katie has always loved bad boy Ryder, but he is seemingly indifferent to her…we know where this is going, right? The author does a good job of building the tension between the two of them as they figure out what they really mean to each other. I thought the inclusion of Ryder’s supposed preferences, and Katie’s reaction to them, didn’t add much to the plot; the sexiness came across without the addition of the other themes. The author does know how to write a sensuous romance. It wasn’t just “wham bam” with the usual language; the reader got teased as much as Katie and that approach made the scenes that much more, well…hot. Both characters realize a lot about themselves, but not in a heavy-handed way. All in all, it was a good read (3.5 stars), and I would love to see follow ups with Katie’s friends. Thank you to the author and Hidden Gems for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this one. It’s best friend’s little sister troupe. Ryder has been friend’s with Katie brother since they were young so there is so much history between the characters. That just adds so much to the story because Katie and Ryder truly know one another. Something else I truly loved about the book is that it took place during the holidays. I’m a sucker for a book that takes place during the holidays. I love the tradition of the gift Ryder gives Katie. This book has a ton of heart, but also delivers on the heat. Katie and Ryder have a ton of chemistry. I highly recommend this one because it’s a great story, but it also has such an easy flow to the book. You start reading then you look up and the hours just fly by.
Some times you just have to pull out all the stops
This is my 2nd book by Susanna and I love an author who writes in dual point of view. Enter the New Year and Katie fails at her New Years Resolution again to have an affair with Ryder. Well no time like the present to step up her game when she finds out that Ryder is moving to Dubai. Will Ryder give in to temptation after all these years? You have to read to find out and will chuckle along the way at small town gossip and Katie’s antics.
Katie is been in love with Ryder all her life, but he is her bother’s best friend and a son for their parents. Her New Year’s goal is to wake with Ryder in her bed. Can she risk everything and have a future together? A steamy love story
This is a well written book by Susanna Carr.
A great light hearted read. It has just enough romance, disappointment, resilience and reality.
The romance was just enough to make this a sexy read without being over the top.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book for Hidden Gems
She’s looking to change her ways. He’s hoping to mend some of his. When both find themselves in over their heads and heart deep in love is when the fun times really begin. The Year of Living Shamelessly is a rip-roaring laughfest with a hint of spice and a ton of heart.
I don’t quite know what I feel about this book. It made me feel, but I’m not sure the emotions I experienced were at all what the author was going for. By the time I reached the end of the book, my initial reaction to the first part of the story had mellowed considerably. One of the things that bothered me the most, is the attitude about the Lifestyle in this book. I’m probably unique in this opinion, but I’m grateful Ryder pulls a bait and switch with his kink. Because the pair of them together are a BDSM disaster. The monumental screw ups they make left me foaming at the mouth with anger. Coupled with Ryder’s really jerk-y behaviour and this wasn’t checking any boxes for my enjoyment. But once the pair of them started to be genuine and vulnerable with one another… I’ll admit it, I’m a sap. I cried over their emotional turmoil. Katie and Ryder invest so much energy protecting themselves from the other that it was painful to witness at times. The resolution probably is too quick and too simple, but there’s something about the way it happens that pulled me out of my negative feelings and left me with a mostly warm fuzzy glow.
