Who is most likely to kill a woman? It’s more likely to be someone they know, not a stranger.Fingers are soon pointing at murdered Diana Woods’ ex-husband, Ian, who appears to be everyone’s prime suspect. But Dave Slater has his doubts. What people have been led to think they know and what they actually know aren’t always the same thing. An alibi suggests Slater is correct and Ian Woods is in the … suggests Slater is correct and Ian Woods is in the clear.
It’s becoming clear Diana was very believable, but was she as squeaky clean as everyone suggests, or was she hiding something?
New evidence leads to a new suspect, but everything seems to be just a bit too obvious.
Something doesn’t add up.
If only Slater could put his finger on it.
If you like British Detectives, you’ll love Dave Slater and sidekick Norman Norman, two wonderfully, humanly, flawed characters who will soon feel like old friends.

slater and norman ROCK!!! they are such an incredible team. excellent action-packed series with the dry wit and banter of slater and norman. aaahh…. delightful!!
A good read on a rainy day – you won’t want to put it down until the end.
While this book had a good mystery, the characters really made it a lot more entertaining.
I bought the entire series. I love the writing and the characters… the mystery is interesting but believable!
Included some nice twists and turns; suspects were everywhere!
Just who was the wrong man? I tried to figure it out and couldn’t. There was also a lot of humor, the two main detectives played off of each other smoothly. Good read.
Good British detective series. Did not know killer til the end.
A murder mystery without gore! Such a welcome change! This mystery has more twists and turns than a logging road with an unpredictable ending. The detectives are believably flawed and the dialogue entertaining and funny. I’m hooked on this series!
Dave Slater Mysteries Boxed Set 1 – This is a new author to me and I found some of his stories interesting and others disappointing. While the first two books were interesting and easy reading, the second book started changing the personalities of two of the three main characters, a DS and their superior. By the fourth book, the personality changes were too drastic to be believable, so out of character for these two gents.
Death of a Temptress #1 – My first read by this author and I enjoyed this story. There are plenty of criminals coming out of the woodwork. There is good intrigue, good characters and the interesting relationships between the police trio. Along with a variety of characters, good storylines are combined with good dialogue. 4*
Just a Coincidence #2 – This book starts where Temptress ends. There is good humor along with good characters, good storylines and good intrigue. There may be the beginning of a possible romance? 4*
Florence #3 – This book starts three months after Coincidence ends. I enjoyed this book the most of all four. Greatly disappointed that there is a change in the personalities of one of the DS and their boss; I think out of character for both of them. This story is rather intriguing with a good bit of suspense in the last part of the story. Again, there are good storylines and good characters. 4*
The Wrong Man #4 – This book starts three months after Florence ends. I found this story disappointing. Both the actions of Norm and Murray, way out of character for them, got on my nerves. What started in Florence is fullblown in Wrong: these two are always gung-ho to arrest someone without any real evidence. This story is a bit simplistic with the phone and its assembly, which is just an example of how the author is making his three characters stupid. While the storylines were interesting, how the author handled the dummying down and personality changes of his characters recued my interest in reading past this book. What started as an easy to read good series with the first two books was wiped out by this book and the simplistic plot and dialog. Along with not being well written and rushed, I lost respect for the police trio, although the author let Jolly be herself. 3*
Dave Slater Mysteries Boxed Set 1 end.
It’s so nice to read a modern British mystery where the detectives aren’t personally involved or holding grudges or crooked and the investigation shows just how complex a simple case can be.
A small enclave of upper priced homes where everyone sort of knows their neighbors. But when a woman is stabbed to death in her own home, it’s surprising how many neighbors accuse the husband. Besides the fact he moved out weeks ago, it seems the dead wife fancied men, plural, in all shapes and sizes!
Slater, Norman and Jane do a terrific job of analyzing the cast of characters and the mounting evidence.
You see interviews, evidence and gossip and think the poor hubby did it. Then you find out his wife lied about their relationship and now the men in the neighborhood and at work are of interest. And you meet two very arrogant people at Diana’s workplace and put two and two together and come up with three or four??
Just when you think it’s solved, it’s not. Loved the banter and wit and the way the two detectives make sure to include and acknowledge the work of Jane.
Great characters with real personalities and an inside look at evidence collecting and the long process of checking it out and going back over it again. The ending is priceless on many levels. 4.5 stars. A fun read, not a cozy, but not ghastly or one to keep you up all night. .but a good solid puzzle worth solving. Enjoy this and the laughs are included free.
Banal dialogue, unconvincing police – would they really handle an interview that stupidly? Didn’t bother reading further.
Not my favorite murder mystery. Plot moved along slowly. Often repetitive with a sense of walking through knee.deep mud.
