From the author of the instant New York Times bestseller The Wives comes another twisted psychological thriller guaranteed to turn your world upside down.
Have you ever been wrong about someone?
Juno was wrong about Winnie Crouch.
Before moving in with the Crouch family, Juno thought Winnie and her husband, Nigel, had the perfect marriage, the perfect son—the perfect life. Only now that she’s living in their beautiful house, she sees the cracks in the crumbling facade are too deep to ignore.
Still, she isn’t one to judge. After her grim diagnosis, the retired therapist simply wants a place to live out the rest of her days in peace. But that peace is shattered the day Juno overhears a chilling conversation between Winnie and Nigel…
She shouldn’t get involved.
She really shouldn’t.
But this could be her chance to make a few things right.
Because if you thought Juno didn’t have a secret of her own, then you were wrong about her, too.
From the wickedly dark mind of bestselling author Tarryn Fisher, The Wrong Family is a taut new thriller that’s riddled with twists in all the right places.
“The Wrong Family is your new obsession. It’s full of twists you’ll never see coming and you’ll be breathless until the end. Trust me: you’ve never read anything like this.” –#1 New York Times bestselling author, Colleen Hoover

I never know what to expect from a Tarryn Fisher story. They always completely leave me reeling and this one was no different. The storytelling is captivating and the story itself is unlike anything I have read. I was pulled in from the beginning and it did not let up until I finished. The twists and turns held me on the edge of my seat. I am still fully able to express how intriguing this story was. I can’t wait to read more from Tarryn and to see what she has in store for us next.

The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher is a book best read without knowing too much beforehand, just like I did with The Wives. It is a tough one to talk about without spoilers to be honest so I’m going to keep this short. If you read The Wives last year you will know to expect the unexpected. What this is is a slow-paced domestic drama with an emotionally-charged ending and I enjoyed it. That’s all I can say. If you like this authors work, I suggest you pick this up. I volunteered to read and review an early copy of this. All opinions are my own.
Can you imagine the feeling of a story choking you to the point when you cannot help but breathe and feel your heart just got punctured? The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher is that story. The story twisted it’s dark, dramatic and shocking branches around my heart and soul. And squeezed and squeezed till I was broken beyond sanity and repair.
This story was a mine field. Like venturing into a dark room where I could see and feel the presence of something sinister. But I couldn’t pinpoint what that is. And my heart leaped to my throat and my mind got jumbled with each new chapter. A complex web of lies, deceits, mind games and darkest human traits. Tarryn Fisher plays with fractured psyche so well. The breaks. The darkness. The light through those tiny breaks. One misstep stumbled into another. Till it became an avalanche of bad decisions, wrong turns and fateful outcomes.
Juno had a life. A job. A family. And now she has none. And in this desolate state, she finds a family to obsess over. The Crouches. Winnie and Nigel is like any typical couple. Over their sweet honeymoon phase, their marriage is a mess. It’s becoming ugly to the point of no return. Fragile, desperate, loney and impulsive Winnie doesn’t know how to hold onto everything slipping through her fingers. And Juno decides to interfere from background. And everything gets burnt to the ground. Skeletons come out of closets. A stunning story told from dual POV, The Wrong Family is an exciting and sometimes gloomy take on psychology, criminal behaviour and just plain humanity. I hated them, I loved them, I stopped breathing, I cursed and I wanted to get inside the pages to stop the disaster. My heart is raw from screaming “STOP” way too many times.
Tarryn Fisher made me drown in the suffocating, dramatic and overwhelming world of The Wrong Family. Definitely one of my top 2020 read.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily. ARC provided by the publisher through Netgalley
Juno thinks she knows the Crouch family from watching them in the park and her conversations with the Crouch’s teenage son. Once she’s living in their home, she learns even more from their daily conversations. What she sees is a very different family behind closed doors. How could she be so wrong about this family?
For me, the start and the ending of this book are much like its premise. I had one impression from the first third of the book and quickly developed the opposite impression once I got into the last third of the book. Namely, it took a little bit for me to get into the book; it was a plodding start. The focus was on the story of a struggling dysfunctional family, with very little suspense. Also, the likeability of the two main characters contributed to me not getting into the book early. However, the last third of this book was the exact opposite for me. Once the unsettling, deep, dark secret is revealed, the book moves very quickly to an action-packed conclusion with unexpected twists. I didn’t want to put the book down.
I loved how the book weaved in important and timely societal issues — mental illness, homelessness, and incarceration. The book illustrates the impact that these issues can have. It raised some questions that I will think about for a while.
Overall, I enjoyed the wild ride that is The Wrong Family! It was twisted, dark, and full of dysfunction.
Thanks to Tarryn Fisher, Harlequin, and NetGalley for the digital ARC to read and enjoy. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I’m really conflicted about this book. It held such great promise and has rave reviews from readers & authors I respect, but I personally struggled to connect with the characters and plot for most of it.
Don’t get me wrong, this book kept me distracted for days, which is uncommon in itself, but it wasn’t always in the best way, and there was a lot of lead up to something that then felt unfinished.
It definitely gets you thinking outside the box and won’t be something I’ll forget in awhile.
It is not easy to sum this book up at all and as it is as Tarryn Fisher book I don’t think you would expect it to be easy.
For a book that has a small cast of characters it has to have that something that keeps you invested in the story and I was intrigued and curious. The story is narrated entirely by Winnie and Juno and both of them epitomise the word complex. One thing the author does so well is dissect the human psyche. Being inside their heads so much isn’t scary but boy did they make my brain hurt. I found myself trying to work out what their motivations and what they would do next. There is a reveal that comes about 25% in that I had already worked out but it didn’t spoil it at all. This is not what I would term dark or scary, often I felt uncomfortable and twitchy towards two women who are both selfish and never see the harm their actions do to others around them. At the the heart of this book is a close up look at a very dysfunctional family and the woman who infiltrates their lives.
Ms. Fisher absolutely blew my mind with this new thriller! The chaos was epically written and the twists and turns had me gasping for air and wanting to keep reading to find out more!
This is a story with so many underlying themes, all of them written with a realism and persuasiveness that had me believing the unbelievable moments! The way that Juno and Winnie were so different, yet you could see the similarities was captivating! The way that assumptions were made and the decisions and righteousness that came from those assumptions were riveting!
Oh and the characters, the main characters in this story! How I fluctuated between cheering them on for doing the right thing, only to later on when the truth came out to be asking how could they? My emotions were all over the place and I loved it! That is a true testament to the writing talent of Ms. Fisher!
This story is going to grab you by the throat and not let you go until the very end! And what an ending it was! If you are looking for an exciting, thrilling, and keep you guessing story, look no further than The Wrong Family!
3-1/2 Stars!
This is the first book I’ve ever read of Tarryn’s. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but I had seen a ton of great reviews for previous books of hers.
I love thrillers, I love trying to piece things together & I really love when I’m completely caught off guard by the things that happen. So when I read the first half of this book I was kind of ready to give up. I didn’t really like any of the characters, & their stories didn’t grab me & hold my attention.
BUT the second half of the book was awesome. Honestly I’m surprised my eyes didn’t fall out of my head with how wide they got at one point. The second half of this book definitely makes it worth the read. I was pretty stunned by the ending too.
Another thing I liked about this book was Tarryn’s questions & answers at the very end. It gave me a deeper understanding of the characters & story.
Not all is as it seems or is it. What a superb thriller read.
3* Domestic Drama Stars
I had high hopes that I would love this book as much as some of the authors other books but unfortunately it fell flat for me as I struggled through the first half of the book. I found it to be very slow paced and going nowhere. I did persevere as the book has got many rave reviews and thankfully towards the end it did pick up and get a bit exciting.
I wished I had loved this book more than I liked it, perhaps it was the wrong book for me at this present time, but I look forward to reading what the author brings us next.
A Slow burn thriller. I’m not sure how I feel.
I know I feel for the characters and what they went through.
I seriously do not know what to make of this one.
I’m confused, frustrated, and left with more questions than answers.
The idea of a person squatting in your house grabbed my attention though.

An intricate web of secrets and lies…… nothing is ever what it seems in a book written by Tarryn Fisher!
Wow…..just…..wow I really dont know where to start in reviewing a book like this, and I think the least said in this case is better!
The wrong family is a story that takes you in many directions with outcomes you really dont see coming, the writing as always flows smoothly and captivates the reader leaving you turning the pages as fast as you can whilst holding your breath because you just know something is going to happen. This story is full of suspense leading to an almighty boom that will leave you slack jawed and awed at what you’ve just read.
Tarryn truly has a remarkable gift and its always a pleasure to read her words.
4 twisted stars!!
I am a sucker for a good suspense. Especially when you add in some extra twisted shit. This was definitely up my alley.
I have so many emotions about each and every character. Now you know the author is good when you don’t know who you like and who you don’t like. I really enjoyed the background of these stories and the twists that were thrown in throughout. Where it runs away a little bit is to be honest I saw most of it coming sadly. Except the end. That I did not see coming!!
This is a slow burn but with that you get in the minds of multiple characters and you even start believing their rambles. I was super impressed with the authors ability to create such dynamic characters. Especially Juno. Juno rocked my world. She is a book all in herself. I want her whole entire story.
It’s crazy to think I began to believe this as normal. I adored this book and loved the flow and the writing. Her descriptions made me visualize the whole book from beginning to end. At one point I could smell the “mustiness”. Kudos to this author for turning a book which mainly takes place in one area into something so extreme.
Don’t read anything before you start either. I was scrolling Facebook and someone had a status in a group about never looking at a “….” the same way again. It was regarding the character Juno and a certain place (if you have read and want to know msg me I fill tell you). It hurt the story for me because I didn’t know that’s where it was going yet. So don’t read stuff that could have spoilers just jump in, you won’t be disappointed!!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
I’m really not sure where to start with this review, I just want to shout READ IT!! This is one of those books that seems to have two separate stories going on and you can’t really see the connection or how it’s going to play out until it becomes as obvious as a slap in the face with a cricket bat!!
This author touched on so many life situations, ones where it could be anyone of us. Mental issues…, homelessness… incarceration… The characters are general every day people leading a someone ordinary drab life until one small incident rocks the very foundations and life comes crashing down like a badly built house of cards! That’s what this author does best , writes ordinary characters living ordinary lives until BOOM! They are so simple and basic after all !
I can’t make up my mind whether I liked the ending or whether I feel cheated out of closure.. one thing this author does well is leaves your mind in turmoil whilst the story plays on loop! Ms Fisher is not one to tie her stories up with a pretty pink bow and that is the appeal. I’ll still be thinking about this for some time to come. Another winner !

This is one of those books that absorbs you and continually keeps you going. You don’t look at the clock, have thirst or hunger or any need to do anything but read. I’m sad it’s over. Tarryn has done another magnificent piece and I’m just here holding the book looking at the cover suffering from withdrawals. There was so much I hoped for and so many places I saw the ending going but I’m not going to spoil it for you. Because just like real life you don’t always get your way. That’s what’s I love most in a thriller on how the Author can pull one over on me when I think I know how everything is going to end. It’s something us thriller fans just love to hate and keeps us coming back for more….because next time, we surely are going to outwit the Author. So this is one you need to read where the awesome cover actually meets and surpasses the story and will make Tarryn Fisher an Auto-Buy Author for you.
*****
You want the wrong family to be the right one so bad in this non-stop thrill coaster. The Crouch family, Nigel, his wife Winnie and their son Samuel have a beautiful home in a much desired suburb in Washington. Their lives seem flawless; a picture perfect family.
But what people don’t see are the tiny fractures in the foundation that inevitably lead to the cracks. No one hears the fighting and screaming except their son Samuel.
There’s also Juno, a retired therapist who comes to know the Crouch family up close and personal; they just aren’t aware that she’s there…watching and listening. She has her own secrets but they aren’t mine to tell. She lives in the park across from the Crouch’s house, calling the bench her home. For she is an elderly lady, homeless and with winter approaching she doesn’t think twice when she gets an opportunity to sneak into the Crouch household and squat in their crawl space to make herself a new home.
She has the family’s patterns down pat so that she can eat, bathe and snoop in peace. But what Juno overhears during a fight between Nigel & Winnie has her getting involved in more ways than one. And what she may or may not fully understand may have set off some undesirable and unfortunate consequences for not only her but everyone involved.
This is one of those books that, as you read it, you think you know what’s going on. You think you have a sense for Winnie and Juno, and you think you know what motivates each woman. You think you know.
And then Tarryn Fisher cackles with delight as she shows you just how wrong you are.
Winnie and Juno are so much more than they appear. Much like Russian nesting dolls, different pieces of them are revealed, bit by bit, letting you see and experience their complexity. As much as neither likely would want to admit it, they share quite a bit in common. Each is resolutely, ferociously, tenaciously devoted to what they hold dear. Their determination to be right, to do right, to not doubt her rightness (and righteousness) instead causes fissures in their foundations. The problem with cracks and clefts is they provide an opening. If you leave the opening untended, you put those entities you hold dear at risk.
Winnie and Juno very much put what they hold dear at risk.
As I read this book, I found myself feeling more sympathetic towards Winnie, even though I wasn’t sure she deserved such tenderness. Both she and Juno try their hardest for you to not like them. They make mistakes that they are loath to admit, and their need to be right will frustrate you. Still, I felt for Winnie. She, I believe, is the bigger victim.
I would love to know your thoughts. You will NEED to discuss this book, so if you have a book club, pounce on Tarryn Fisher’s gift to you. I was fortunate to read this with three friends, and we debated, dissected, and deliberated over Winnie, Juno, and other characters. We were split: half of us were #TeamWinnie and the other two (poor, lost souls) #TeamJuno.
Hit up the comments and tell me what you think, even if you are #TeamJuno.
I feel like I’m going to struggle on writing this review because I’m still fleshing out on how I feel about The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher. I love Tarryn’s previous books that I have read. This one has a different vibe to it. It was written in the third person which threw me off a bit. It was quite confusing in the beginning but once you started to give in to the chapters, you figured out what was going on. I don’t want to say too much because there are a lot of plot lines and twists and turns that you just didn’t see coming. It was an interesting read. It did make you think a bit. It wasn’t my typical Tarryn read but I still enjoyed it.

The Wrong Family will have you scratching your head trying to determine who in the family has earned the title of the most craziest mixed up one.
A book of unlikeable characters , which I always like.
The book is slow and steady to start but look out: the twists are soon coming . Unbelievable but so good.
I wont say more so I don’t give anything away, you are better to go into the book bind and follow the author’s trail.
Thanks to Net Galley and Harlequin – Trade Publishing (US and Canada) – Graydon House for a mind boggling read.
The Wrong Family is a must-read, dark psychological thriller about two women Juno and Winnie. Both more alike than different, both mental health professionals, both over-involved in their client’s lives, both interfered with outcomes, and not capable of seeing what’s in front of them, both having controlling issues, both having mental health issues that they cannot see in themselves.
The Wrong Family leaves more questions than answers and is a great talking point on all the issues that take place along the way. You will find yourself reading but actually asking if what is happening in this story could really occur in real life. I guess they call these teachable moments, but what the actual hell? You’ll understand that last statement once you read this story!
