From the author of the instant New York Times bestseller The Wives comes another twisted psychological thriller guaranteed to turn your world upside down.
Have you ever been wrong about someone?
Juno was wrong about Winnie Crouch.
Before moving in with the Crouch family, Juno thought Winnie and her husband, Nigel, had the perfect marriage, the perfect son—the perfect life. Only now that she’s living in their beautiful house, she sees the cracks in the crumbling facade are too deep to ignore.
Still, she isn’t one to judge. After her grim diagnosis, the retired therapist simply wants a place to live out the rest of her days in peace. But that peace is shattered the day Juno overhears a chilling conversation between Winnie and Nigel…
She shouldn’t get involved.
She really shouldn’t.
But this could be her chance to make a few things right.
Because if you thought Juno didn’t have a secret of her own, then you were wrong about her, too.
From the wickedly dark mind of bestselling author Tarryn Fisher, The Wrong Family is a taut new thriller that’s riddled with twists in all the right places.
“The Wrong Family is your new obsession. It’s full of twists you’ll never see coming and you’ll be breathless until the end. Trust me: you’ve never read anything like this.” –#1 New York Times bestselling author, Colleen Hoover

A very disappointing 3 star read. With the success of novels like “The Wives” and “Bad Mommy”, I had really high hopes for this one, but it the slow pacing and lackluster “twist” was not up to the standard I’ve come to expect from Tarryn Fisher.
I love a Tarryn Fisher thriller. There are a few things that you can be guaranteed when you pick one up. One, the characters will be completely messed up but messed up in even more ways than you think, and that reveal is going to be good. Two, it’s going to be a tangled and twisted ride.
The Wrong Family has both of these things. There were times when I thought I’d figured it out, thinking that the reveals and revelations weren’t as big as I’d hoped. Then I realized why… because I was utterly wrong. That’s what I love about her thrillers. They twist and turn, and just when I think I have it figured out, I realized just how wrong I was. I love that in a thriller.
The story is told through the perspectives of two women, Juno and Winnie. They were complex characters who were somehow both likable and unlikable, dependent upon both the perspective and the events of the story. Juno, a woman who has found herself in a life she never imagined, moves in with Winnie and her family. She was certain she knew them, but time will tell her that there are dynamics between the Crouches she never imagined. And Winnie seems like a woman who has it all… a handsome husband, a beautiful home in a sought after part of town, a great son. But Winnie’s life is far from the carefully created vision of perfection.
And that’s all I’m going to say because this is a book that needs to be read with no preconceived notions about it!
My recommendation: If you love a twisted, tangled thriller, this is a book that will captivate you and have you turning the pages from start to finish!
I listened to this on Scribd
For me this book was very hard to get into. I was confused for the first few chapters. I didn’t like any of the characters. Bright side tho, the last 5 or 6 chapters were good. I was excited to listen to this book cause people were saying it was gonna be good, I so disagree with that. this made my night last longer than I wanted it to. This was my first and probably my last book by this author.
Whoa… this book had me checking every nook and cranny of our house, and freaking out at every little noise at night. Admittedly, I am a huge chicken, but it’s been a while since I’ve been this creeped out by a book.
The Wrong Family starts off quite slow, however, I really enjoyed the build up of the story. The last quarter of the book, though, is all systems go and had my heart racing. I had NO idea how it would end. As always I had some theories but not one hit the mark. I always try to go into books blind except for the synopsis – I think for this book that is really important, so for that reason I will say no more.
Great book! I did have a hard time putting it down, which is the mark of a great story. This is told from the perspective of two characters (Winnie & June), with a little back and forth in the timeline. I honestly was not sure what the relationship was between Winnie and Juno at the start, which is awesome. I love when I can’t guess everything in the first few pages. Winnie is married to Nigel with a teenager, Sam. Not really a happy family, and Sam is having a hard time connecting with his Winnie. Juno has her own interesting backstory and how the pieces come together was fantastic! No spoilers here though! It was a great read, I thought the ending was the perfect way to close this clever story!
So, those sounds they always told me are just the house settling? I’m scared s*tless of them now, thanks to this book. It’s not just a stunning thriller — it’s a force of reflection, as full of empathy and truth as it is shocking twists and turns. Fisher’s bold prose lays bare all our everyday malices: the way we judge other people, justify small evils, and sabotage ourselves with impossible ideals. THE WRONG FAMILY is a mirror — and no one wields a mirror quite like the queen of dark what-ifs: Tarryn Fisher.
Fisher’s latest thriller is electric, like riding a roller coaster in the dark. Hairpin turns plummet to heart-stopping depths. You won’t devour this book. It will devour you.
Wowza!! That was intense!! I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect with this one but new just by who wrote it that it was going to be a must read for me, and man oh man was I right. It took me a little bit to really get into the story but once I did, I didn’t want to put it down. Every page was a new surprise. So many twists and turns that I never knew what to expect next. And I didn’t see that ending coming.
Another gritty, twisty and utterly un-put-downable obsession that only Tarryn can capture. I loved how my perspective repeatedly changed for each of the characters. Her uncanny ability to make me root for the flawed people is incredible!! Juno and Winnie will have you questioning everything you thought you knew!!
I devoured this book in one day and I’m so glad I went in blind. Tarryn has a way of making you question everything you read in the chapter before, and this book is no exception. The story is woven in such a way that you are hanging on each word waiting for the big reveal.
Each of Tarryn’s words are important, they are strategically placed for the reader to interpret or misinterpret. Not everything is what it seems, it never is. There’s what you see on the outside and then what you see when you delve deep into the recesses.
So many secrets and so many lies. Each of them more detrimental than the last. Are you the saint or are you the sinner?
I really enjoyed the POV of all the characters in the book and after our beta read we had two clear teams, Team Winnie and Team Juno. Both characters were written exquisitely, I could put myself into both of them and feel things from their perspectives, but Winnie just spoke more to me. Both characters were trying to do the right thing always. This book was twisty and had turns you won’t see coming. I left this review super vague because I want you to go in blind. It’s for the best. Trust me.
The Wrong Family is about the Crouch family who has a deep, dark secret. Winnie thought this secret was buried, but someone knows and wants to expose her secret. Winnie is desperate to find out who in her family has learned the truth.
Meanwhile, Winnie’s marriage has been falling apart and her relationship with her son Sam is crumbling. Then her twin brother has marital problems of his own and Winnie tries to accommodate her brothers needs. Winnie is at her breaking point trying to be a good wife, a good sister, and a good mother.
Motherhood is a theme that runs through this book. Winnie takes her role as mother very serious by encouraging good eating habits, minimizing alcohol consumption, and pushing for the perfect home in Greenlake Park. Greenlake was the type of neighborhood where people were willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money to live in. Winnie had to have a home here. She convinced Nigel to buy the house on Turlin Street insisting on renovating the house until it was perfect. Nigel had one request to include a downstairs apartment which Winnie granted him. Winnie and Nigel had a complicated marriage from the beginning with her need to control her husband. It was this controlling nature that caused Nigel to grow bored of his life no longer willing to put in the effort.
Mental health, therapy, and counseling played an intricate part of this story. Winnie counseled mentally ill patients at Illuminations. Juno was a couples therapist who sometimes got involved in people’s lives, taking it a step too far, crossing a line. She’s retired yet she still craves digging and plowing through people’s brains. Watching Winnie and Nigel becomes her new fixation.
I do enjoy Tarryn’s dark wicked mind. When she releases a new book I’m quick to pre-order and quick to read on release day. Psychological thrillers is my jam. Finding good ones with twists and turns is challenging. The book is broken into three parts with part one introducing characters and setting the stage for suspicious curiosity from Juno. Part two was labeled ‘then’ regarding Juno. Part three everything teeters upon the secret. Get ready for some big twists.
Tarryn’s talent stems from great insight. She studies people’s behavior and with that knowledge she produces these great characters that behave in very real ways.
The Wrong Family was a great read by Tarryn Fisher. Juno finds out that she was completely wrong about Winnie Crouch. Before Juno had moved in with the family, Juno thought Winnie and Nigel had the perfect marriage and the perfect son. But while she lives with them longer, she finds out that not everything is as it seems. She had a grim diagnosis and is a retired therapist. She just wants to find a nice place to live the rest of her life. Everything changes when she overhears a chilling conversation between the couple that lives where she is staying. She knows that she can’t help it. She wants to just have a chance to make things right. I absolutely loved this book and loved Juno’s story. I can’t wait to read more by Tarryn Fisher.
3 Stars
I know I’m probably in the minority with my review, but I struggled so much with finishing this book. Tarryn Fisher is an amazingly talented writer, but this one just wasn’t for me. I never connected with the characters, and all the crazy twists and turns felt extremely over the top to me.

The Wrong Family is my first read of Tarryn Fisher. If you follow me you know I tend to dive in without even reading the synopsis of the book and that’s exactly what I did. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. While I will freely admit that I was expecting a love story (since that is mainly what I receive to review), I was happily surprised to be reading a suspenseful thriller instead.
Now generally with a romance the author dives right in, fast paced to get to the nitty gritty of the relationship so please understand that since I had no clue what genre this book was I was expecting the reading pace to be a bit faster. After learning the genre of The Wrong Family I understood the slower pace. Fisher was setting up a somewhat complex story.
The four main characters are quite different, yet also very similar. Which adds complexity to the story. The flow was a bit jarring at first, but all for good reason I would learn. I mean this story is meant to be suspenseful.
I enjoyed how Fisher made me wonder what I would do in the situations that Nigel, Winnie, and Juno were in. Would I take what I gleaned from eavesdropping and let my imagination run with it, like Juno? Would I let the true events haunt me like Winnie? Would I let circumstances go like Nigel? I honestly can’t say.
Tarryn Fisher has written a truly twisted and mind boggling book. The Wrong Family will have you questioning what you think you know and the reality that is. You will be checking every nook, cranny, and crawl space around you.
This is my first read by this author and man what a ride it was ! This is a psychological thriller that was so riveting I was engrossed in every page from start to finish trying to find out what was going on ! The plot is captivating and intense I was not prepared for what a mind fuck of a ride I was in for ! I don’t want to go into details about the story because I think it’s best if you go into this story blind but just be prepared to have your mind blown! I can see why this author is so famous in the book world her writing is phenomenal her storytelling impeccable and I am left speechless after reading this book.

5 Twisted Stars!!
I’m not even sure how to describe this book without giving away revealing details that will lead to potential spoilers. What I can tell you is the Ms. Fisher has written a book that is TWISTED beyond all twistedness that I’ve read in a very long time. There’s a darkness and complexity to these characters as we wind our way into their lives.
There’s an abundance of secrets and struggles by Juno and Winnie along with what I consider secondary characters, a husband that’s very angry, a teenage son that resents the control his mother holds over him and a brother that is failing in his own marriage. With every page that I turned I was at times shocked and other times filled with a level of dread as to what would next be revealed. I was also on the edge of my seat for a good portion of this book because let me tell you, Ms. Fisher has written a story that takes us up, up, and up on a rollercoaster and then we’re on the downside and it ends with a crescendo that is not what I expected. I literally had to read it a couple of times to make sure I was really reading what I thought I was.
This is a magnificent way to close out my 2020 reads and I HIGHLY recommend this book if you’re a fan of suspense thrillers that you don’t find out all the what’s and why’s until the very end!!
I’ve seen Tarryn’s books all over social media but never had I read one, so when I saw this blurb I was intrigued and signed up. I didn’t know it was going to be in third person and I don’t usually read these so it took me a few chapters to get into it but once I started, I was so captivated by what was going on I could not put it down.
Winnie and Nigel are married, seemingly living a happy life, but behind closed doors it is anything but, they have their struggles and resentment for each other but because of their son and secrets they stay together.
Juno has had a disturbed life, she lost her family, had been in jail and is homeless at sixty-seven with dwindling health. She spotted Winnie and Nigel one day and became interested in them and wanted to know more. Her curiosity then put her in a situation you wouldn’t think possible and here is where the story begins.
The story goes beyond anything I was imagining, there is so much mystery between these characters. The angst at times near killing me to the point I wanted to put it down but couldn’t as I was so invested. The story touches on mental health, relationships, making mistakes and trying to right wrongs all mixed in with fantastic writing with a skill of a story that I am in awe of. I will be checking out previous books and I’m a new fan for sure!
I won’t say much about the story as I don’t want to spoil it, just clear your day, get cosy because once you start, you will not be able to put this one down and is one of those books that when finished you will be asking yourself what have I just read, it’s a crazy ride with twist and turns you won’t see coming. Enjoy!
ARC received for an honest opinion
I’ve been letting this one marinate for awhile. I was sitting in my thoughts & stewing in my feelings, just trying to put into words how this story made me feel. It’s very dark & it’s gritty & it grabs a hold of you within the first paragraph. And not in a delicate way. No. It’s more direct & unrelenting. It grips you by the collar & jerks you around until you can’t tell the different between up or down, left or right, right or wrong. And I’m still there. In that space where Tarryn left me. Stuck in the in between, unsure where I stand. Of the two characters, I can’t say who’s more to blame. They both hold onto guilt in equal measure & they both maintain a small amount of innocence, too. And in true Tarryn Fisher form, we’re given *just* enough. Our questions are left mostly answered and our curiosity is mostly satisfied. And that’s what keeps us coming back for more.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep on saying it. No one writes like Tarryn Fisher. Her words split you open allowing your fears and insecurities to come tumbling out. Whenever I read her books, I’m filled with a sense of foreboding and a dread that I feel deep within the marrow of my bones. She challenges me and offers opposing viewpoints that change my perspective. To put it bluntly, her writing enriches my life. I never come out of one of her books the same way I was when I went in. I’m forever changed. It’s extraordinary.
Read. This. Book.
This book is full of unexpected plot twist that drive the story. From the beginning Juno seems like a nice sweet old woman who is renting a room from a rather ordinary family. However, this family couldn’t be farther from ordinary, and Juno is not what she appears to be either.
With masterfully written words, Tarryn Fisher takes you deep into the disturbing minds of these characters. This is not the type of book that will have you falling in love with characters, or hating characters. You will be completely absorbed by the story. It almost makes you feel like this is something that could actually happen in real life.
I love the twisted mind that is Tarryn Fisher. I can not wait to see what she brings us next.
I am not ashamed to admit that I am absolutely addicted to family suspense novels!! At one point you know how crazy big families can be with all their past histories and secrets but then you read another superhit book and you’re back to square one. Families can truly be messed up and this thrilling tale proved it to me.
I am someone who only reads romance novels but then I saw that my favourite author was doing this book and yeah , there was no chance I was missing this book no matter what genre. So I signed my crazy ass up for one hell of an adventure because I knew that this author won’t make me regret even a second of it!!
The story focuses on Nigel and Winnie and their son Samuel. One day Juno , who was staying with them , overhears a certain argument and decides to unfold all the secret’s this crazy family holds. This set her on her path filled with deceit and lies and there was no one she could trust. And what she found might just change everything they all had ever known!!
The thrill in this book , goddamn , the thrill !! I was at the edge of my seat for the whole book and I can’t even tell you guys how much time it took me to get over these characters!! They were a crazy bunch and I am so glad that I got to read them! A definite recommendation to all the Thriller Books lovers out there!!
