From the author of the instant New York Times bestseller The Wives comes another twisted psychological thriller guaranteed to turn your world upside down.
Have you ever been wrong about someone?
Juno was wrong about Winnie Crouch.
Before moving in with the Crouch family, Juno thought Winnie and her husband, Nigel, had the perfect marriage, the perfect son—the perfect life. Only now that she’s living in their beautiful house, she sees the cracks in the crumbling facade are too deep to ignore.
Still, she isn’t one to judge. After her grim diagnosis, the retired therapist simply wants a place to live out the rest of her days in peace. But that peace is shattered the day Juno overhears a chilling conversation between Winnie and Nigel…
She shouldn’t get involved.
She really shouldn’t.
But this could be her chance to make a few things right.
Because if you thought Juno didn’t have a secret of her own, then you were wrong about her, too.
From the wickedly dark mind of bestselling author Tarryn Fisher, The Wrong Family is a taut new thriller that’s riddled with twists in all the right places.

The Wrong Family is your new obsession. It’s full of twists you’ll never see coming and you’ll be breathless until the end. It’s a suspense novel like no other. Trust me: you’ve never read anything like this.
No one writes as authentically as Tarryn Fisher. She is truly a once in a generation writer and The Wrong Family proves that, yet again.
The Wrong Family is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. It has an interesting cast of characters. Each person has their own secrets, and some of those are dangerous. Juno is an older lady with quite a past, but she doesn’t have a secret as serious as that of Nigel and Winnie Crouch. Juno is surreptitiously hiding in the Crouch home, and she hears and sees things that no one is supposed to know about.
What is she to do with the disturbing information she discovers? A child is involved. Juno is dying, should she just live out the rest of her days in peace? How can she not do something with the information? Her situation is precarious. She is threatened with discovery.
The story takes different directions often, making it hard to predict, and this adds to the suspense. For those who like to be kept guessing and then surprised, why not have a look at this book?
I’m pretty sure I’ll be of an unpopular opinion for this one. What a snooze fest. This is NOT a thriller. The action, what little there is, comes during the last 100pgs or so and is only a few pages long. I would consider this more of a family drama and a really boring one at that.
The ending is easily imagined as well if you pay attention to some of the dialogue. The only thing that had me like was Winnie and Jesalyn’s interaction and outcome.
I have other books by this author on my shelf so I’m hoping those are better. I’m just not the right reader for this one.
I loved the book even though I hated almost everyone in it. Yes. It’s one of those books where you will probably not like anyone but the kid. The story opens with Juno, (who I readily admit freaks me out but I’m not telling why, lol). At first I thought she must be a relative of the family. The family consists of Winnie, her husband, Nigel, and their son Sam. Winnie and Nigel are the couple you know that should have broken up long ago but then you realize they can’t because no one else would want them. These people tend to fascinate me as I find myself wondering what happened to them to make them they way they are and how did they find each other? Winnie did something bad and Nigel helped her in some way and somehow that became the glue in their marriage. Juno thinks she knows what it is and how to fix it. Train wreck waiting to happen and it does!
This is one of those books that I think readers will be divided one. The camp who love it and the camp who hate it. I don’t feel like it has a middle ground. I read one of the authors other books, The Wives, and I feel like that about that book too. It might be the author’s style. *shrug* It worked for me. Both books kept me riveted. I think I need to read more of her books.
This book started off a bit slow for me as everyone was introduced. I thought it would be one I read a few chapters at a time, which was what I was looking for as I was recovering from surgery. I started it the day before my surgery but then had to shelve it until I was recovered somewhat. I started it yesterday and ended up reading it straight through! I was so hooked I couldn’t stop turning pages.
A huge thank you to Irish thriller writer, Val Collins, (Only Lies Remain), for gifting me a copy of this book. It totally entertained me and distracted me from my recovery.
As a longtime Tarryn Fisher reader, I know that you can never be sure what you’re getting into when you start one of her books. Will she rip my heart out? Will she make me question my sanity? A little of both? Probably!
It’s so hard to put this book into words, but I’m going to try. It’s gripping. The story grabs onto you from the very first page and drags you along for a wild ride full of secrets, lies, shock, twists and turns, and just moments that will have you gasping and wanting to grab the person next to you and say “OMG this book is crazy” (I may or may not have done that to my poor husband a few times)
The characters were so amazing, I went into this knowing I’d end up on one side or the other thanks to my friends but I could clearly empathize with both characters perspectives but in the end I am team Winnie all the way.
I don’t want to say much more because truly this is an experience you need to go into blind or knowing very little. But it’s so great and I highly recommend it!
My first Tarryn Fisher novel is without a doubt one of the best books I’ve read this year. The Wrong Family is a psychological thriller that was riveting and engrossing and had me eagerly turning the pages to find out what’s happening. I was so captivated I could not put it down and read it out in one sitting. The author wrote this story in such a way that I was constantly guessing and at no time was I able to predict where the story was going.
The plot focused on relevant social issues. It’s told in dual POV and goes back and forth in time and portrayed the characters so individually you got a good insight into their psyche. The story was unique, intense and will definitely take you on a crazy ride. You will be utterly consumed with the tale and it will stay on your mind long after you’ve finished reading.
This book was different and no review will prepare you for it. Its best to go into it blind and enjoy the unbelievable journey. I would highly recommend this page turner to lovers of psychological Thrillers.
This book made be cringe and intrigued me all at the same time. Some twists and turns. Loved it.
Tarryn Fisher We all know that perfect family that just seems to have it all. We gaze at them from afar and wish we had the same thing. However, as we also know, things aren’t always as they seem. This is exactly what the case is with the Crouch family; Nigel, Winnie, and Samuel. Behind their closed doors lies a secret, and a big one at that. Nobody knows of this secret, or do they? The one person that knows of their deep dark secret is someone that lives with the Crouch family, and that is Juno. Juno is intent on living out her fate in peace, but that may not go as planned for the retired therapist. When she unintentionally overhears a very concerning conversation between Winnie and Nigel, the secret is out. But Juno is in no position to judge them. No, not at all. To judge them would be saying you have no secrets of your own, and for Juno, that is not the truth at all. But how much of the secret will pour out before someone ends up getting hurt?
I’ve had this book sitting in my audible library for a while now, and finally decided to give it a go. This was my second book by Tarryn Fisher and it was every bit as good as the first one I read. She had many twists but the ending, the ending was definitely not what I was expecting. I really enjoyed this book. If you love psychology thrillers, this is a book for you. I rate this
So I wasn’t originally sure how this book would go, but it definitely had me hooked. I enjoyed every second if it.
This was a totally engaging story—original and twisted to the end. This is my first Tarryn Fisher novel and I look forward to reading her again!
Sometimes you are so busy trying to impress everyone else, you don’t see what’s going on in your own home!
Juno, a homeless woman, begins living in the Crouch home, but they don’t know. Uh-oh….your house might be too big if a stranger lives with you, without your knowledge!
Juno hears the husband and wife discussing a terrible secret and feels like she must take the situation into her own hands to correct it. She might not have heard the entire story, though!
Fisher is a fantastic author and I keep my eye out for her upcoming books!

I typically gravitate to “cleaner” novels, but I’ve been hearing so much about Tarryn Fisher that I had to check her out, and the novel I chose is The Wrong Family. I devoured this book within a day and closed the book shaking my head and audibly saying “Wow…”
I was completely grossed out, especially with the horrifying ending (no worries, I won’t give any spoilers), and honestly had to step away for a bit to collect my thoughts, and process what I just read.
Where should I begin? How do I explain my thoughts on The Wrong Family?
I knew before opening this novel that there would be aspects that I wouldn’t care for, and I was correct, and for me it was mainly the bad language. I heard mixed reviews about this author and her writing, so I thought I would check her out, and get out of my comfort zone, and see why there’s such a division, and now I see it. Truth be told, I honestly don’t know how to feel, which is why I’m giving The Wrong Family three stars …right in the middle.
My imagination was captured, and I was engaged throughout the novel, but that wasn’t always a good thing, especially when there are some graphic details that you wish you could forget after they’re so vividly stuck in your mind.
The psychological aspect was what I was most looking forward to, and I have to admit I was pretty let down as nothing really shocked or surprised me like I hoped it would. Though the ending was predictable (I had guessed the twist early on) it was quite satisfying, maybe because I was right about the twist? I don’t know…
If the language could’ve been toned down, and a few little minor details that bothered me could’ve been omitted (like several parts severely dragging), then I think I would’ve rated this novel much higher. I was hoping for a bigger twist to the narrative that never came, but all in all it wasn’t too bad of a read. I just felt conflicted on how I felt as a whole, and landed on eh. I don’t regret reading it but with all the hype I got my hopes up too high.
This book has so much in it! A marriage with its ups and downs. A family with its own drama. Secrets that won’t be revealed until the very end. And an ending that will leave you reeling. All in all, it was just crazy what went on throughout the whole story! The twists and turns, and the secrets.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it was entertaining for sure. There were a few things that made it just ok for me:
– The author includes a few events in the book that are never addressed or brought up again – the homeless man approaching Juno outside the house and the condom incident being just two of many. I’m not sure if they were put in just to add more suspense but it just seemed pointless to devote a few paragraphs to the events and then have nothing more come of it.
– The characters aren’t great. I didn’t find myself liking any of them /-:
– I feel like it could’ve been a lot shorter? Kinda seemed to drag on a bit at times.
– A little too many twists and turns, a little too unbelievable.
I’m kind of surprised with all the negative reviews though, overall I didn’t think it was THAT bad. I would definitely check out more of her books in the future.
That was a rollercoaster ride of a family if I ever met one. Between Winnie and her hidden secrets, and waiting for those secrets to be exposed and Juno and the things she uncovers, my head exploded a bit. Juno is just looking for somewhere to be warm and safe from the elements, she doesn’t realize what she is getting herself into. The Crouch family looks perfect from the outside, but they are anything but what they appear. Read this to find out what Juno uncovers and how she deals with what she learns. This book will keep you pulled in until the very end, trying to guess what the heck is happening.
This book was a age turner and tragic, but the end will blow your mind!
REVIEW: DNF
What??? I know….I know.
After so much hoopla and pomp and circumstance about this book, I was expecting a win for my second book by Tarryn Fisher. I loved The Wives and the journey she took me on. I jumped in with my gummi bears, my popcorn and a big bottle of water so I wouldn’t have to move an inch while devouring my second book by her. Boy, was I disappointed. Man, this one was not good. It was rough, which sucks because I wanted so much more out of this one.
This book didn’t feel the same as The Wives in her writing style. I know they are two totally different genres/tropes, but it just didn’t feel very well written and I couldn’t really understand the picture she was painting for me. The writing was noisy and the jumping around was confusing at best. Some folks loved it, so don’t take my word for it. If YOU want to read it, I’d love to hear your take on it, because I’m always up for a discussion. But for ME? It was very hard to follow and enjoy.
There was a whole bunch of questions from the get-go, and the introduction was lame – because there was just not any real flow or continuity with the characters, the storyline, or the reasonings. And, I’m not opposed to believing it had anything to do with the fact that I don’t often read this genre or trope, and that probably plays in a little with my lack of enjoyment, but I’ve always said that if a book is written well, you can still enjoy them whether the story is for you or not. An author’s words will always work if they touch me; if they move me.
But this one felt monosyllabic. Monotonous. Boring. It just didn’t work for me.
It was awkward, to say the least, when she was telling the story – or while I was reading it, I don’t know. It wasn’t anything like I read and loved in The Wives. That book blew me away. I followed it, couldn’t wait to turn the pages, and most certainly enjoyed the storyline as it weaved its way through the ups and downs of the drama for that poor woman. That Wife. It was so good. I just don’t know what happened with this one…
The characters didn’t feel very well fleshed out – or maybe I just didn’t get any sense of understanding of who they were because of the way it came across. I didn’t really feel like I connected with any character on any level that showed me I could root for them or emotionally attach myself to their plight. It just felt awkward on every level. Oh gosh, the POV was awful. Absolutely awful. It didn’t do any justice to the storyline when the characters and the circumstances were confusing as well. Something has to anchor me and root me to the story. When it’s all confusion masked by mystery, it doesn’t allow for the story to grow from within, which lead to it feeling very pieced together. I realize she kept the base on the shadows because she wanted to give the illusion of mystery, but it did the storyline a disservice. To add to it, I feel like the route she took us to get to the ending was very indirect as well. I didn’t enjoy it at all. I ended up skipping to the end to read the finish so I could see if it was worth continuing to read, and well – just blah. Not impressed. I couldn’t bring myself to finish it, and knowing how it ended didn’t make me want to go back and discover the rest of the story. That told me everything I needed to know.
The way she told this story didn’t work for me in the slightest. In the middle of discussing things, she kept throwing in memories and they’d pop up out of nowhere. I found myself going back and reading the paragraph again because jumping from past to present, memory or not, got to be annoying. These characters were not easily likable or followable. (Not a word, I know.)
The writing was funky, it didn’t flow at all – and the story went nowhere and very slowly at that. It just got to the point that I felt like I couldn’t waste my time anymore because I was getting mad and frustrated at the way this was written and being uncovered. It is not a book I can or will recommend. So much so, that I am giving out my ARC copy. I will send my paperback to someone that actually wants to read it.
I AM SUPER BUMMED this didn’t work for me. I will read her again….I will.

Tarryn Fisher twists and turns you upside down again. You think you have things figured out. Bam! You’re sucker punched with something you hadn’t even considered. She does a fabulous job of bringing this dark story together at the end too. I’d like to think this would be an amazing movie, but we all know it would never live up to her written work and the picture she creates in each of our minds!
Loved this book! Great characters and you don’t know where the storyline is going
