Getting past all the wrongs in your life, then making them right.
This is the story of Austin & Julia. Austin works at Wright Construction, as he is one of the Wright brothers. Julia has been working there for two years and is the head of HR. Obviously they have a pretty recent past. Austin is a very frustrating person with a big ego, and a drinking problem, because of his childhood. Julia’s brain tells her to stay away, but her body is telling her something else. The two of them are like oil and water. They go through a lot of trials and tribulations together and each alone. This story is very informative on what an alcoholic goes through and then the recovery after reaching rock bottom. It was heartbreaking for me, especially since I’ve seen this in my life. This book is well written and describes all the feelings and struggles, not only for the alcoholic, but for family and friends going through it, too. But in the end, it is so worth it. You’re going to feel every bit of this book as you read it. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I was dying to read Austin’s story! I wanted to know how the author dealt with Austin’s alcoholism and she didn’t disappoint! It was apparent in the previous books that Austin and Julia had an attraction, something happened and there was now bad blood between them. Reading this book we learn what happened but we also get to enjoy their second chance!
Austin is trying to deal with his alcoholism, he gets a blow at work that shatters some illusions and make him face reality. He gets a second chance with Julia and decides to get clean. Then we are treated to this wonderful story where we enjoy their relation, family times, and the crazy relation that Julia, Heidi and Emery have.
Austin and Patrick are best friends and partners in crime. They are frequently drinking and hooking up. Their mantra is to love’em and leave’em. Until Austin’s alcoholism goes too far and breaks his chances to promote in his family company. Then the drinking comes to a screeching halt, we watch as Austin struggles to come clean and rejoice at Patrick’s support to his friend.
Julia is such a strong woman, assertive and heavily tattooed. She keeps a secret about her past, but strange things start to happen and we suspect her past may have come up to meet with her again. This is the only book so far that has an element of suspense, very well developed. It’s very subtle, hardly noticeable.
It’s a struggle to love an alcoholic, especially a recent one, and the author does a great job at portraying this. We watch Austin’s struggles, his frequent yearnings for a drink, how much he has to fight his addiction. Julia is supportive but also demanding. And Austin is so much in love, he’s determined. Then the going get rough and it gets complicated.
I loved to read their story because it felt so real. Julia is not accustomed to have girlfriends and Heidi just demands they be friends. She’s somewhat reluctantly brought into the sisterhood with Emery and Heidi and joins the crazy relation between these two. She feels somewhat more in connection with Morgan, who is driven and workaholic, so they’re sort of becoming close. For a woman who used to be isolated, she’s suddenly acquiring friends and a lover right and left and she’s reeling a little.
This books was a page-turner! I loved the alcoholism theme and loved how the author handled it, with humanity and compassion. As usual, we get to enjoy the Wright siblings in action, and the Patrick-Austin combo which is hugely entertaining. There’s a tragedy that happens during the story that’s shocking and heartbreaking. It was a total surprise and I’m sure we’ll be revisiting this situation in future books. Can’t wait!
Love all the Wright books. Wonderful characters and the writing kept me coming back for more.
I read the whole series. Highly recommend!
Really liked the characters in the book
I was unsure I’d like Austin and Julia even before this book… and I was right.
Austin is the third and last Wright brother, and he’s always been an alcoholic. In the previous books, he often appeared only with his best friend Patrick and they were always wasted or they said inappropriate things. In another situation I would have liked the type, since I usually prefer bad boys with issues. But Austin was… too much. The alcohol is not the problem at all, not even his doucheness is. The real problem here is how he acts in the book.
Julia and Austin have history because they’ve been together once, but they always argue when they meet. I like angst, I like good banter, but these two characters look like cat and dog barking at each other and not resolving their issues at all. Julia didn’t like that Austin was always drunk (rightly so) and he tried to improve for himself and for her, but we know that when you try to stop doing something you’ve done your whole life, you can’t expect it goes well. Austin tries to be a better man for Julia after he realizes that he is hurting himself and lose chances with life in general, if he keeps on behaving like he does. Until it goes wrong.
There is a side storyline that starts moving right when this happens, and that intrigued me more during the second half, until even that goes downhill because Austin behaves like a total jerk. Again. As if there was no character development whatsoever. I was glad he realized he had treated Julia like trash and apologized, but it was too late. What he did made me despise him even more and think that he deserves to be alone and thinks about his issues first. That he does, luckily, but still, I didn’t like what got him to his realization at all.
I didn’t buy Austin and Julia’s relationship much. I thought they didn’t have much chemistry or maybe, then again, it was Austin’s fault. It was his character that never got me too much interested. He could have been a great character to explore and to use to show evolution, redemption, but I just wanted to punch him in the face at some point.
Morgan and Sutton’s books come next. Let’s hope that the Wright sisters have something better to show me, because I think they have potential. So far the story I liked the most (and the brother I liked the most) is The Wright Brother with Jensen and Emery.
Audible Escape. DNF @35%. This audiobook is a hot mess. There’s a loss of continuity in the series by suddenly giving the characters Texas accents. As a Texan, this attempt was laughable. They didn’t even carry them consistently throughout. I don’t know what was going on with Alexander Cendese ~ I’ve heard many books by him and he’s always been fantastic. Even narrating the Bourbon Kings series where he had a southern accent was fine. Yes, he’s a man doing a woman’s voice so you can’t expect pure feminine, but several of the female characters were horrible. Lucy Rivers wasn’t much better here either.
Let’s move on to the story. This is set a year after Landon & Heidi’s book. Austin is repeatedly touted as constantly drunk throughout book 1 & 2. I don’t think he’s ever referred to as an alcoholic per se, but the insinuation is there. I was actually expecting that perhaps he was recovering and we were going to get a better backstory as to what fell apart between he & Julia, a “behind the scenes” of them from the time covered in books 1 & 2.
Nope. Austin is STILL a raging alcoholic. Despite repeatedly acknowledging that he’s always drunk, his very wealthy family has to have a board of directors tell them this. They still do NOTHING to encourage Austin to seek treatment of any kind. And to soften the bad news that the board won’t approve his promotion ~ they offer him a BOTTLE of expensive liquor.
Then, Julia’s so-called friends encourage her REPEATEDLY to get involved with him. She, wisely, tries to resist. He drunkenly and crudely propositions her repeatedly. Then, after weeks of all this pressure, she finally caved. Yup, he’s drunk when he asks her out “officially” and after thinking it over ~ SHE SAYS YES.
Are you kidding me? This is not romantic. This is not healthy. And you should fire all your friends for encouraging this.
Between this train wreck of a relationship and the barely tolerable narration ~ I’m done.
(4.5 stars)
The Wright Mistake is the best of the series so far! Julia and Austin’s story is by far the heaviest and most complicated. I was a bit skeptical when Austin thought he could conquer is alcoholism on his own. Should’ve had more faith in Ms. Linde’s writing to know she wouldn’t play down his addiction that easily. I couldn’t put this down and finished it in just a handful of hours. The last quarter ripped my heart out. Julia has to face her past, Austin has to contemplate is future and the wright siblings face their brother’s demons. This was such a wonderful story and I cannot wait to see what’s next in the series.
Love me some second chances romance… this book hold dear to me with some sensitive subjects… the story was beautiful.. sad.. and heartbreaking… It made me engaged even more with the sstruggling couple.. how much more can you give?? They have love for each other and so much challenges that can keep them apart..KA Linde, this book is special..
I didn’t dislike this book, but I didn’t really love it either. I really like the Wright family and was very intrigued about Austin and what made him the way he was. But I felt so uninterested in both him and Julia.
What I liked:
There is definitely more to Austin than meets they eye. There is plenty to love about him and when he’s sober he is actually quite adorable. I loved seeing how much he cared about Julia and how genuine his feelings for her were. I felt for Austin because I think his problem is that he feels too much and that’s what gets him into trouble. He doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions. There is a really sad twist that I didn’t expect at all and I almost wanted to cry. Damn you Kyla for doing that to me.
What I didn’t like:
It’s ridiculous that not one person in the Wright family has done anything to make Austin address his drinking problem or try to get him help. They allow him to still work at the company when he comes in drunk and drinks on the job. So idk why it was a surprise that he wasn’t the #1 option for a promotion. Austin and Julia’s relationship was very dysfunctional and drama filled. Granted a lot of it has to with Austin constantly messing up and doing everything in his power to sabotage his relationship with Julia. Honestly, I did not connect with either of these characters and didn’t feel invested in their lives at all. I didn’t care all that much if they got together except for the fact that while Austin messed up, she jumped to a lot of conclusions and hardly wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. But again, he brought it on himself.
So I thought this book was just alright. I didn’t dislike it, but didn’t really like it all that much either. I’m still a big Landon and Heidi fan.
The Wright Mistake is an awesome read! The story flowed well, it had some suspense, it was well written, and emotional. I loved Austin and Julia, the were realistic and they showed raw emotions. Their chemistry was sizzling. Loved seeing all the Wright family. I loved everything about this book and I can’t wait to read the next Wright member’s story!
Austin is not one for hiding his thoughts, “I’m effing you in that. Only that.” His eyes traveled over my flushed body. “I’m never going to be able to look at those heels again without thinking about you showing up and getting me off. ” A few chapters just destroyed me, I had no clue that plot twist was even coming, I’m just speechless! I just never expected it. Overall I enjoyed this book, Austin needed to learn not to be all so proud all the time and own up when he needed help. Juloa was sassy, and fierce and I loved her.
A difficult situation and a lifelong journey…addiction is a game changer. The Wright Mistake is a beautiful story about an ugly thing. An addiction that neither wants to be ended or acknowledged.
I have loved read this family’s trials since the beginning and watching Austin hurts. His destructive tendencies make your heart squeeze and your anger fester.
Having a tough chick like Julia is all he would ever need…but she needs more than a functioning alcoholic. She deserves more. So does he…
Still feeling the feels and needing a hug but it’s okay because the Wrights aren’t gone. Morgan is going to get her story.
So as I raise my glass (of lemonade) I propose a toast to meeting the right Wright, keeping them, and milking it for all its worth. But most of all to never letting life run you over….

Oh where to even begin. I am a huge fan of Kyla’s writing and have simply adored the Wright Brothers the past few months. I am so glad we get a book about Austin and he has easily made his way to the top of my favorite’s list! This book is packed with a lot of fun and flirty interactions, but also brings up a very serious topic in today’s society; addiction. Kyla has delivered a masterpiece with this one and I was simply in love with this story from cover to cover. There were moments I wasn’t sure where she was going with Austin and Julia’s story, and she of course added so much angst to this book I wasn’t sure how it would all play out. Needless to say, she didn’t disappoint and this one delivered a great story and also a great lesson in addiction and the affects it has on not only the person, but everyone around them. This book is light and fun, yet deep and emotional as well. It’s the perfect balance of everything I expect in a K.A. Linde book!
In The Wright Mistake we get bad boy alcoholic Austin’s story. He’s the black sheep of the family in that he has never seemed to be serious about his work, his life, or any relationships he’s had. That is until he meets Julia. This book is a second chance romance as they tried dating two years ago and failed terribly at it. But once Julia is single again and on the market, Austin begins to realize what a mistake he made letting her go. Their chemistry is spot on! They fight with such passion, and have sex with the same passion and aggression that they just work! They have their differences, but as things begin to fall into place, can Austin really continue on the path he’s on without anyone getting hurt? Julia has a secret or two she’s hiding as well, and when everything starts to unravel, could the Wright that has broken her heart really not hurt her again? This books delivers one hell of a story and presents a very important “moral of the story” moment in a way you really don’t see coming. Kyla has again delivered with the angst and made me binge this book in under 3 hours! I devoured it and loved every word of it!
I’ve read them all so far, I enjoy this family
