What if Alice didn’t fall down the rabbit hole, but instead, traveled through Lincoln Tunnel into another kind of Wonderland:New York City.Alice Leighton may have stopped chasing rabbits a long time ago, but that doesn’t mean she’s not up for some grown up adventures. What’s not part of her Alice 2.0 plan: losing her head – and heart – to the rugged and enigmatic Dare Grangeworth. Women go mad … Women go mad over him, but not Alice.
No way. She may be curious, but she’s not stupid.
Now the man used to being pursued is the one doing the chasing. He has to get to know this girl, even if it means allowing himself to be the subject of her research. Before too long, everything between them feels larger than life and upside down, like a heady rush, but is it enough to keep Alice by his side in Wonderland?

The Wonder of You plays on the idea of Alice in Wonderland and is set in the streets of New York. We meet Alice, who is a doctoral student and Dare, the artist. These two meet as Alice is exiting a cab and Dare. When Alice shows her spunk, Dare is intrigued and decides to pursue her. She turns him down, but that doesn’t stop him.
I did enjoy the characters, although I would’ve liked to see a little more development. What I loved about Alice was that she didn’t simply cow to Dare’s ego, she sort of keeps him in check. Dare, of course, seem arrogant and overconfident, but alas … he has some secrets. You can definitely feel the attraction between these two and their banter. (Banter which was GREAT!)
-Alice’s group of friends was great! I love how they can support each other through everything and just say things like they are no matter what. I hope to read their stories
The story itself is pretty low-angst, and the conflict seemed to be resolved rather quickly. There’s not too much of the Alice in Wonderland story overshadowing, but there are quotes integrated at the beginning of each chapter as a tie-in. For sure a fun book and an interesting concept.
A MOST READ BOOK!
So, Alice and Dare?
OMG I love it, she’s the kind of girl I love to read because she doesn’t fall just for a pretty face, I think is because I’m like that. She’s independent, she’s shameless (I LOVE THAT), and she’s so lovely, she really loves with all her heart.
Dare? Well he’s the kind of man that is hero and a badass too. I like that guys that aren’t womenizers (I love womenizers too, but thats for another review), why? because is amazing to read about a guy that’s going to fight for a girl because he really thinks is THE GIRL, is romantic and is so strong that you really feel it.
This story is different, maybe the way everything happens is fast but with real reasons so you don’t see it like a rush, just the way things need to happen, I really, really love that sexuality is somehow the center of the story, not sex, the real thing: SEXUALITY, because you don’t usually find a book that talks about the whole thing, how your mind act, how your body really feels, or how is just normal you have somthing different to think about the whole think. So if you like to see the whole picture about sexuality you must read this amazing book.
And a bonus? Well the author is an amazing person, I think I conneted with her, not just in author-reader level, but in a personal level.
Alice Leighton certainly knows how to stand up for herself – and I liked that about her. Dare Grangeworth has been outed about his attitude. There were several characters that made enough of an appearance that I can’t wait to see who makes it to book two.
There’s plenty of quizzical parrying going back and forth between these two – kept me very entertained. The author is good to her readers that you know from the very beginning what tale this book is based on. But she does a great job in making this story her own. It’s not a story that will have you thinking of people wearing cards running around. It won’t have you thinking of Johnny Depp’s version in the movie – unless you want to think of him as Dare.
I would like to think that if Lewis Carroll read this book, he would be impressed on what Ms. Kincaid was able to do with his story. But I would like to know what inspired her to write this twist. I liked reading quotes from Mr. Carroll – in a small way it connects the two stories. The author did a great job of getting me to laugh that just added to my enjoyment – very crafty. It was nice to have the dual point of view so that we know what the other was thinking. Alice was very good at standing up for her beliefs – she was a character that spoke very loudly here. Which character is going to speak loudly next?
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
The Wonder of You by Harper Kincaid is the first book in her brand new series, A Different Kind of Wonderland . A modern day take on Alice in Wonderland.
We first meet our Southern Belle, Alice, bent over in a cab gathering her belongings getting ready to move in to her sisters apartment. She is basically heckled by the next customer in line for the cab. When she gives him as much crap as he gives her, still bent over gathering things from said cab, she is surprised, once she backs out and bumps into him, to find him not only tall and muscled, but absolutely gorgeous.
Dare has never had anyone put him in his place quite as well as the mystery cab lady does. Her parting words sit badly with him though. He doesn’t like thinking that what she said about him may just be the absolute truth. Ready to try and put it out of his mind he discovers she left behind a treasure trove of secrets for him to discover by way of her handbag, filled to the brim with textbooks, notebooks, and a vibrator???
Told in dual POV, these unlikely characters literally sizzled on the page. Dare is a famous New York artist and Alice is a grad student studying Clinical Psychology and Human Sexuality. Well written and well paced I really just devoured this story. The Chapter headers with well-placed quotes from Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland were great! Enjoy!
I was immediately intrigued by the reference to Alice and Wonderland..and I am so glad I readthis story!
It’s fun, sweet and certainly sexy..the banter anf attraction between Alice, independent and sassy, and Dare, mysterious anf intense.
I loved the story, the characters were awesome., the girls just made me feel like I needed friends like that lol, and I truly truly loved that there was no drama.
Easy and smooth..I read it all in one go!

Mary Jo –
I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn’t happen for me. I generally like the characters, but the emphasis on Alice and her sister’s southern accents put me off. Don’t get me wrong, I love southern accents, but it was commented on a little too much.
As for Dare, he was a bit of a stereotype, and even after his major angst was revealed, I still didn’t feel as though I knew the real story of what made him tick.
The only character that really piqued my interest was Ingrid, and the few brief interactions we had with her made me want to know her backstory.
