“Absolutely gripping.” —Louise Penny
For readers of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade’s most anticipated debuts, to be published in thirty-six languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: a twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.
It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense that recalls the best of Hitchcock.

It was a slow read. A little weird which I liked.
It was simply amazing and the plot twist was like something we’ve never seen before
Thrilling and suspenseful.
Very good and kept you guessing.
It seemed reminiscent of other books of this genre. My husband liked it, I was ambivalent.
Tedious
The Woman in the Window is a tense Hitchcockian chiller. Agoraphobe Dr. Anna Fox has more issues than just the fear of going outside! Separated from her family, she fills her time self-medicating, watching old black and white noir movies and spying on her neighbors – until she sees something disturbing.
So rich in detail, I was immediately drawn into this skillfully written plot. The well placed references to classic movies peppered throughout the story added to the suspense, and made my own imagination go crazy – Is someone gaslighting her? Is it a conspiracy? An aggressive form of immersion therapy? Did it even happen at all? – So many twists in this one!
This book is both gripping and surprising. Do not assume you know how it’s going to end. If you enjoy film noir, you’ll like this book.
This is not your typical mystery book! You will be cheering for the woman in the window and wanting to help her get over her agoraphobia. This has an ending that will shock you!
A great balance between beautiful writing and tension. Highly recommend.
This read was an impulse decision for me. Watched the trailer at the movies and requested the book from the library when I got home.
I’m now happy to report this is a well written psychological thriller. The kind that you can’t put down and, though it’s not spectacularly out of the box, it’s a gripping tale of a woman affected by fear, depression and an abusive use of booze and meds.
Anna Fox is a prisoner in her own home. An agoraphobic, she hasn’t been able to set foot out of her house for almost a year and one of her unusual hobbies is watching her neighbors. When the a seeming perfect family unit moves across from her, she’ll take an extreme interest in the family and will witness something she’s not supposed to, which will bring the world as she knows it to spiral into the dark abyss of her own mind.
Is it paranoia or did she really see someone get killed? And who of all the people around her is making her seem crazy even to her own eyes?
I really enjoyed this book and found the story suspenseful, interesting and with the right twists making the author surprise me a few times which I’ve found myself hoping for more times than not when I venture on this genre.
This book is one of my new favorites!! I wanted to reread it the moment I finished it!!
Great thriller!
Really good twist!
I’ve just recently begun listening to (and reading) psychological thrillers. Although this one might have been a bit long, I loved all the twists and turns. I was kept off balance enough that I truly didn’t see the end coming. Well worth a read or a listen.
A page turner keeps you engaged from the first page.
I really enjoyed this thriller. It’s creepy and keeps you guessing. I can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out.
I liked the writing style of this book, I read it in three days. It was pretty eerie to read this while we are quarantined almost for the corona virus. I liked the main character, I was rooting for her!
Not going to spoil anything here but – wow! – I did not see some of those plot twists coming! I love the thrill of the journey Finn took me on to see where this story was leading. I was not disappointed in where it took me. Bravo!
I can’t waitto see the movie. Reminds me of Gone Girl. Haunting.
For me, the book started slowly but then took off and I couldn’t put it down. Great read. I want more from A. J. Finn.
