“Absolutely gripping.” —Louise Penny
For readers of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade’s most anticipated debuts, to be published in thirty-six languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: a twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.
It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense that recalls the best of Hitchcock.

Thought the book was a bit slow at first, it took too long between the hints of “what happened” to actually learning some of that, but once the story got rolling it had some good twists. Definitely had me turning pages, especially toward the end.
Obsessed. Interesting characters, continuous secrets uncovered, something interesting about each chapter.
I think this is probably the best book I’ve read in years. The prose crackles, the noir backdrop layers the plot with a film-grain texture, and the characters combine to make one of the most compelling, propulsive books I’ve read in recent memory. If you have even a passing interest in psychological/domestic thrillers, do yourself a favor and pick up this book — I swear you won’t set it down once!
Excellent read! Hard to put down. Mesmerizing characters. The backstory of the main character was revealed in slow increments leaving the reader with mixed feelings that evolve throughout the course of the novel. Plenty of plot twists and turns. I can see why Hollywood picked up the rights as it will surely make for an engaging movie.
Grab a good Malbec and settle in for a thrilling ride!
Dr. Anna fox, she’s a piece of work, a recluse who is afraid to go outside. Let’s have another glass of wine, shall we? I enjoyed the story from start to finish. A.J Finn’s style of writing took me deep inside Anna Fox’s mind, let’s have another glass of wine or two. Just when you think she’s lost her mind or did she, let’s have another glass of wine, ah heck, let’s have another bottle. This lady can drink. I love thrillers, and this story didn’t disappoint with a mind-blowing ending.
This book is quite brilliant. Clever, suspenseful, original, and deeply haunting.
Totally a page turner!!
Great book with engaging characters and twists and turns. Would highly recommend reading it.
I throughly enjoyed this book. It’s packed with twists and turns to keep you guessing right up to the end.
Suspenseful and a good read
People seem to either love this book or hate it. Put me in the love category. The Woman in the Window is an addictive page turner that kept me glued into the wee hours of the night. My Kindle actually locked up during the climatic ending and I had a minor meltdown. Fortunately, I got the thing to reboot and was able to sink back into the whirlwind finish.
I’m so glad this has been opted as a movie, because it’s perfect film fodder–fast-paced yet moody, layered with unexpected twists and turns, and populated by an odd assortment of characters, including the lead–Dr. Anna Fox–whose “voice” is amazing. I’m not a huge fan of books told in first person POV, but this story demanded that point of view, and the author delivers. There were many times I had to stop and marvel over the way something was relayed or described. The tension is palpable, served up by Fox’s agoraphobia, and escalating scenes. I will definitely be in line for the movie when it’s released. The book is superb. I’m already looking forward to A.J. Finn’s next release.
If you enjoy plot twists amidst the darkness of this tragic character, you’ll love this!
Enjoyed this book very much…it was a surprise ending that I didn’t see coming. The characters were intriguing and the story was bold. Would recommend it!!
A real page turner that kept me guessing till the last page. Lots of similarities between the protagonist and the movies she watches. Really good!
Kept me turning pages until late at night. I thought I had everything figured out but, nope, I was caught by surprise at the end. Good read, fast paced and surprising for a book with a setting in such a small area.
Although I found the premise of this book interesting — it’s about an agoraphobic woman who watches her neighbors through the window — it moved a bit slowly for me. I also predicted the outcome pretty early on. However, the author is a skilled writer. The characters are well drawn, believable and sympathetic. And there are a few crazy twists I never saw coming. If you like Hitchcockian thrillers, give this one a try.
A fabulous book that no kidding the twists will have you going throughout this book. You may guess a few things but then another twist. I felt as if I was part of the book the entire book which says a lot for this author’s writing style. Finn captures you at the beginning and never lets you go giving you a feeling that even with clues she nudges you in a different direction of yet another surprise. I can’t wait for the next book by this author.
Plagiarism and sad to see Netflix is a part of this.
Might want to research this author and his lies.
I originally thought, “oh, this woman is going to be pathetic!” But Anna was surviving as best she could with the horrible cards she was dealt. Her delusions kept me in suspense since I never truly knew (until the ending) what the reality actually was.
Unlike, Rear Window, she was not a bored photographer, or a voyeur. She was trying to “live” her neighbors lives in a way and was lonely. The writer did not introduce any friends or extended family that could visit Anna. Where were they?
I really was surprised that I was up until 3AM until I finished the book. It was well-crafted and entertaining. Thank you AJ Finn!
Thought this was a great book. I enjoyed it way more then the movie and had a lot of twists and turns. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read.
