“Absolutely gripping.” —Louise Penny
For readers of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade’s most anticipated debuts, to be published in thirty-six languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: a twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.
It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense that recalls the best of Hitchcock.

Everything that has been written about this book is true. Finn draws you into the story until you are a part of it. The twista and turns are gasp-wworthy. Read this before you see the movie. There is so much going on in people’s minds. It would be a shame to miss out by not reading the book. A real stunner.

What a story! Did not want to put the book down!
This book is a page turner! I don’t have a lot of time during the day to read, so a great book with short chapters works wonderfully! Great train-commuter book. Now, about the actual content…you may not think this book is original as it seems to be similar to Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, but you will find it is truly original with all of its twists and revelations. I still had no clue how it was going to end until, well, the end. A very easy, suspenseful read. I have recommended to all my friends.
Very suspenseful and addictive. The author has an unusual and unique way with the English language that fits the mood and impresses without detracting from the story. Came down from 5 to 4 stars for me because the ending was way over the top, otherwise, I enjoyed every minute of the ride.
I liked this book I just thought it was long!
The story was interesting and its delivery was original. The only problem I had with it was that it took 100 pages before there was any real action. In any case, the writing was strong enough to make me persist, and I’m glad I did.
Great first novel. Keeps you turning the page
Toó formulaic
This was an intense thriller with multiple twists and turns that kept me up way past my bedtime! I couldn’t put it down and had to see it through. The author surprised me a couple of times, which I heartily enjoyed. And while I eventually caught on to her final twist a few pages before she revealed all, I must admit I had swallowed the bait dangled before me several chapters earlier. I like it when an author can “get” me – hook me in and lead me along.
I liked the main character. She seemed so lucid even from the bottom of a bottle. I love the old black and white film references and quotes. It made me miss cable TV. I used to spend hours on Turner Classic Movies – reveling in bygone eras. There is still something nostalgic and comforting about those classic films.
Second best book I’ve read this year and I read A LOT. Out of the dozens of mysteries I’ve read, this is goes right to the top. It may, at first, seem like Rear Window but this book twists it’s way right into its own territory. I know every body says this but in my opinion THIS is the next Gone Girl or Girl on the Train. Don’t miss it.
This was a GREAT read a little sad at times the book pulled you into it and did not let go of you turning page after page to see what happens next. Don’t read this book if you need to do anything it grabs you and holds on. The main caracter makes you almost fell as if your right there with her going through her life side by side ….This is a wonderful book I enjoyed it very much . Thank You 2 the author great writing yaaaaaaaaat
* can’t wait to see the next book !
The Woman in the Window had an totally unexpected ending. It is a great read, Stayed up late at night reading, a real page turner.
wanted to love this book so bad. I think it was drawn out over the 101 chapters, yes, the chapters were short and that’s why there were so many. I didn’t start becoming interested until maybe chapter 90?! The ending was strong and that’s why I was able to give it two stars. With the audiobook it has an interview with the author at the end. I think that was a great touch. Definitely stood out from other audiobooks. I’m sorry to say I wouldn’t recommend this book. Very drawn out story line and for a physiological thriller in my opinion it was lacking. I could predict most of it and to me that takes away from the thrill. I found myself often wondering when my predictions would be confirmed. Eventually they were but hours later.
Very good, lots of twists!
This has been my favorite book of the year. I recommended to my book club. Two huge A-HA moments that will rock you. Can’t wait for the movie!
A great page-turner!
Best book I read this summer. I love a book with a lot of twists. This was it
The story was saved by a twist that was hinted at during the narrative. So it made for an enjoyable read.
This book is just unputdownable and it has so many twists, especially when you least expect them. I can recommend this book to thriller-lovers.
