“Absolutely gripping.” —Louise Penny
For readers of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade’s most anticipated debuts, to be published in thirty-six languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: a twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.
It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense that recalls the best of Hitchcock.

Excellent whodunit.
Can’t wait to recommend to my book club when my turn comes around. What great topics to discuss!
I did not expect the book to move at the pace that it did. The husband and daughter were very believable. I thought the window reminded me of other window books But then it got more and more interesting with the family across the way and all that was going on there. The added characters of the downstairs neighbor and the police officer in conflict with the main character kept my heart beating. The Woman in the Window shall be part of my collection to be read again and again.
One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. It kept me guessing and i never saw the ending coming. Definitely a stay up all night ,can’t put it down kind of book.
It was well-written and compelling first-person narrative. It was an interesting perspective on a psychological disorder that reveals as much as it hides within the central conflict of the story. Very clever storytelling. Terrifying at times and the climax is well worth the wait.
Great twists and turns to this book.
AJ Finn set out to re-write Hitchcock’s Rear Window by updating it with a female heroine and setting it in modern New York — and he largely succeeded. This is a classic page turner which, like most of the noir it pays homage to, relies on an unreliable narrator and some sleight of hand around mistaken identities. A great stormy day read.
Enjoyed reading
Exciting debut novel. Amy Adams movie fall of 2019
it’s hard to put into words. i found this book to be about a woman who physically could not leave her home. she obviously had a husband and daughter but they are not available. she sits and watches out her window to see what is going on in her neighborhood. even her therapist visits her instead of her going to their office. i can’t say much more without giving things away. i did find it to be a good book.
I finished reading the book a few days ago, and since then I have waited to consolidate my mind. This book reminded me of the girl on the train, and I wanted to form an opinion thanks to its own story and no memory remnants from another good number. I have to say that until page 160 I didn’t connect to the book and I was rather bored but eventually and a few days after reading I can say yes, I liked the story. The writer managed to convey the intensity of the anxiety and the syndrome in which the heroine is. I learned how a person feels in her situation. I read it avidly and although I imagined what was going on with all the characters it was still a good thriller. The end might have been a little forced but didn’t diminish the experience.
A great twisty-mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. Is anyone as they seem? Probably not.
This was a page-turning, nail-biting unable to put down thriller with so many twists and plots that it had me guessing through the entire book.
The main character Dr. Anna Fox, a depressed psychologist with a drinking problem and also suffering from agoraphobia, spends her days looking through her binoculars at her neighbors.
Separated from her husband and daughter, but the reader has no idea why until later in the book, but we know she talks to them often
Because of her illness she is cut off from the outside world, her only connection is what she sees through her binoculars. One day while watching the family across the street she witnesses something terrible happen but Anna has a hard time getting anyone to believe her but she’s determined to get to the bottom of what she saw and prove that she isn’t crazy and just imagined it.
Overall all this was a fantastic read and one that was hard to put down. I highly recommend it.
Reminiscent of Hitchcock tales. Psychological thriller.
Good mystery.
Just could not like the main character. It took forever to get good.
This is by far the best book I’ve read all year. It’s about a woman with agoraphobia, who spends her days drinking and spying on her neighbors. When she witnesses a crime she is torn; she feels obligated to help the victim, yet she hasn’t been able to leave her house in almost a year.
A few times I’ve read page-turners, only to be disappointed by an uncertain, wimpy ending. You will not be disappointed by the way this ends! I have recommended this book to everyone I know who reads, and highly recommend it to all who are reading this!
I sped through this book and was totally into what was happening. The author laid everything out as she went along, including the cat’s injured leg, and tied it up perfectly at the end.
Great characters, unique storyline a bit twisted yet these could be our neighbors! Yikes
This book was amazing OMG A.J. Finn you’ve out done yourself I would’ve never thought of the way it would’ve ended.
