“Absolutely gripping.” —Louise Penny
For readers of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade’s most anticipated debuts, to be published in thirty-six languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: a twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.
It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense that recalls the best of Hitchcock.

The book is a tale that has been done quite a few times. Hitchcock did it best in Rear Window. It is a good read and I enjoyed it, but not really an original premise and parts were predictable.
Nicely plotted page turner with numerous unexpected twists.
A highly recommended read.
It was hard for me to get into this book. Once I did, it was worth it. I kept stopping and starting back until about 1\3 of the way through. When I got maybe 1\2 way I was hooked. It really is a good book so don’t give up. There’s a reason for the slow start. It’s worth it!!!!!
A pretentious, overly self-conscious book with an extremely unlikable main character. The novel is terribly overwritten. It reads like a high school student earnestly attempting to use all the SAT vocabulary that he’s recently learned. Also, an occasional reference to film noir is fun, but constant references just smacks of trying to hard.
After a few chapters I grew bored and turned to the end to see if I had correctly guessed the “twist”. I had. It was fairly obvious from the beginning.
Not sure why all the great reviews,
There are much better crime novels out there. Tana French he isn’t
This book comes in with a delicious twist in the story line at multiple points and has an unexpected yet satisfying ending! I highly recommend!
A fast, enjoyable read for fans of ‘Girl on the Train’ type stories. This novel explored similar plot lines of GOTT – booze loving protagonist adrift from recent trauma seeks escape through spying on neighbours – so it felt like I had read a variation of the story before.
The Woman in the Window edges slightly darker though. At times, I felt a little uncomfortable with how messed up the protagonist was. Credit to Finn, who himself struggled with depression and the never ending cocktail of drugs it entails. This element was well drawn enough to bother me.
Overall: clean, clear prose and a wonderfully sly first person voice. I didn’t anticipate the final twist.
Minor quibble: a subplot with a tenant never gave me a full run for my money but it added shifting suspicion to a great layered noir read.
Sensational first time novelist RJ (which isn’t his real name) has you gripping your seat and your chair too! It is a ‘can’t put this down’ for sure! Love the character development, the intrigue and the ENDING! Congratulations to this author!
Interesting beginning but turns to cliches.
This one keeps you guessing. I like when a book has a surprise that I didn’t see coming.
I was immediately drawn into this story and kept reading to find out what happens next. A real page turner.
A good phycological thriller. I wasn’t sure I liked it, but I couldn’t atop reading it.
This was a very suspenseful story and held my interest. I don’t know anyone suffering from PTSD and agoraphobia, so I can’t tell if this is an accurate portrayal of how someone would be in that situation.
Good read!
I tagged this as action packed even though it is about an house bound agoraphobic woman. I actually listened to this as an audio book. The reader’s voice was very pleasing. She subtlely changed the inflection of her voice for each character. The story is a modern day “Rear Window and a fascinating mystery.
I couldn’t get past page 70.
This is truly original with an ending I didn’t see coming.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It gives a unique perspective to people with “damaged emotions” IMHO
Wow! I didn’t see THAT coming! Or THAT or THAT! many twists and turns just when I thought I had it figured out. A great mystery full of twists and turns. A quick read and a real page turner.
Hard to put down
One of the best books I have ever read.
