There just are not enough words to describe how much I loved this book. It has all those things I enjoy in a good read…Scottish, great characters, a bunch of character danger, and of course a bit of intrigue and a good bit of romance. Mairi MacLean is about to marry Geoff MacInnes, as a means to keep peace between the two clans. Returning to the MacInnes clan comes with horrible memories of her first marriage to the old chief and his son and their mistreatment of her, but she wants to do her part. The Wolf of Kisimul, Alec MacNeil’s wife was murdered by Mairi’s husband. As a means for revenge, he steals Mairi before she marries Geoff. Although his intention is marriage, she is having no part of it. From there the action really picks up. Just how do these two find a common ground? How long can Mairi fight her attraction to Alec? Will she be able to help his children…does she ever get out of the dungeon? Or course there are villains, just who are they? This book is so fast paced and attention holding that I read it in one day. One of the added bonuses was the appearances of characters from the previous books in the series. Heather Macollum is quite the storyteller!
I read a lot of Scottish romances, some better than others. This is a good one. Unpredictable, entertaining, loved the dogs aspect, took a long time for the protagonists to get together. Really enjoyable read.
the hero strives to protect those he loves, but it seems more like being imprisoned. There are those who are crafty and sought to take everything
One of my favorite books, love the series can’t wait for the next one.
This was a very good book
I truly enjoyed this book!
The Wolf of Kisimul Castle is the first book I’ve read by Heather McCollum and I enjoyed it from start to finish. It is part of a series, but it is not necessary to read the others, as it’s a standalone book.
Mairi Maclean is about to get married for the second time. Her first marriage had been for the good of her clan. It has never been about love; it was all been about duty, and this time it’s the same thing.. what is good for her clan. Her brother tries to tell her it is OK to marry for love, but Mairi thinks this marriage will benefit the clan, so she will “learn” to love her new husband.
Mairi is a strong, and resourceful woman who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. When Alec takes her captive, she doesn’t cower in fear, but makes a comfy home in the dungeon ( I did have a chuckle at that scene). Alex kidnapped Mairi because he wanted revenge; Alec will take from the MacInnes what was taken from him. A bride for a bride seems fair in his eyes. Alec’s wife was murdered by the McInnes clan, but what he got was Mairi, a fiery and sassy heroine, whom he falls for.
Danger, and intrigue haunt the castle. People say its cursed. Is it? Or is it the fact the laird is a lonely and unhappy man, with many duties and responsibilities. Alec and Mairi had amazing chemistry throughout. I absolutely loved the characters. They were all amazing and complemented each other really well. The secondary characters had some great one liners. There were many times the book had me chuckling at their antics or the words they would throw at each other. The Wolf of Kisimul Castle was entertaining and had plenty of twists to keep you reading.
For a long time I read a book that I stop 3/4 because I know how it would finish. Sorry I didn’t like
Great story
I loved how I had no idea what would happen next at any moment while reading this book, you did an amazing job at keeping me on the edge of my seat and getting VERY attached to the characters
Good book.
Wonderfully easy and enjoyable read.
Well written romantic historical fiction with interesting yet flawed characters and interesting plot that makes you want to find out how it ends!
Love this one. A quick read and had me laughing.
Great story
Excellent read.
Enjoyed this book very much
I enjoyed this story of a loving father who is filled with vengence and believed himself cursed and convinced that love was not a possibility in his future. The storyline was interesting, and kept me turning the pages to find out how the hero was going to fix a serious blunder that could destroy everything he held dear. The heroine was strong, interesting, clever, and, of course, beautiful. She quickly bonds with the Wolf’s children, while he tries to hold on to his bitterness and anger. Will he come to appreciate the amazing woman she is? Will she forgive him for kidnapping her and treating her as the enemy? A worthwhile and enjoyable read.
Mairi’s intelligent wit and sassy grace paired well with Alec’s bossy nature and tempered vulnerability. And the romantic appeal had me sighing..I loved their attraction! Spicy from the start, their relationship blossomed-a few thorns had to be picked through of course-but things eventually turned into a beautiful ending. The secondary characters were just as bold! Alec’s kids were a hoot, as were his cousins, and Millie was a silent rock of support. All of them provided support, shenanigans, and hilarity when I least expected. Alec and Mairi’s book is definitely my favorite of this series!
“But what good is a heart if you keep it locked up? Sometimes the walls that protect can imprison.”
The third book in the Highland Isle series. Heather McCollum has written another fabulous romance/mystery novel. Alec MacNeil’s wife was murdered by the McInnes’ Laird. To get revenge he kidnaps Mairi Maclean on her wedding day (she is to marry the new McInnes Laird Geoff). Having already been married to the dead McInnes’ Laird she isn’t exactly thrilled. Alec put her in the dungeon hoping she will “suffer” and come around and agree to become his wife. Well his two adorable children end up seeing to her every need and she makes a lovely apt in the dungeon. So much for suffering. Lol
This is the kind of humor Heather writes. Her characters jump off the page & make you laugh, cry and sometimes scream. I love the way she writes the dialogue between the characters because it causes the book to flow. I could not put the story down. I am sad this is the last in the series. We see old friends (from the previous books) which always make the stories fun. The mystery has you going up to the end with a wow kind of ending. Another thrilling tale! I hope someday Alec’s children Cinnia and Weylyn get their own story because they are quite comical!
