New York Times Bestselling author Penelope Sky delivers a story filled with heartache, revenge, betrayal, and off-the-charts chemistry! Forced into an arranged marriage, Arwen and Maverick must learn to trust one another if they hope to survive. Till death do us part. My father married me off to one of the most powerful men in Italy. Maverick DeVille. But I call him the wolf. He calls me his … Italy.
Maverick DeVille. But I call him the wolf.
He calls me his sheep.
The arranged marriage was detested by us both, but we had to make sacrifices for the right reasons. He needed to avenge his mother and I needed protection from the mobs that want to torture me.
He’s not what I pictured for my husband. He’s ruthless, calloused, and cold. His walls are higher than mine. He possesses cruelty that makes him feared.
But it doesn’t take long for me to respect him…even like him.
I rely on my husband more than anyone else in the world. He provides for me, protects me, and chases away all my fears.
He lets me graze in the meadow…not a care in the world.
Because the wolf is always watching.
“When people look in the darkness, they see shadows. I see monsters. And I kill the monsters that hunt my sheep.”
I hated this marriage in the beginning, but now I realize how lucky I am.
How lucky I am to be the sheep the wolf protects…and doesn’t eat.

The Wolf and The Sheep is a great start to the new series by Penelope Sky.
Maverick DeVille and Arwen Greco are forced into an arranged marriage by their fathers, but for different reasons. Neither of them want to go through with it but it’s the only option they have, one seeks revenge and the other needs protection.
Maverick and Arwen’s relationship is complicated, both agree to an open marriage, seeing who they like, whenever they like.
As things progress and things change between the two, will it change their original agreement?
Different from her other series but still just as gripping. Page turning good. It’s heartbreaking. It’s steamy. It has betrayal and trust issues. It’s everything I’ve come to love with Penelope Sky reads.
I can’t wait to see where this story goes.
I love Penelope Sky and I loved all the Buttons books. Wasn’t sure about this one but once I started to read couldn’t stop and read straight through. Can’t wait to read follow ups.
Loved it!! I love all Penelope Sky books and this one did not disappoint! I’m so interested to see how it all turns out! Arwen and Maverick have a lot of work ahead of them. With enemies trying to kill her and Mavericks Father turning into a psycho I know there will be lots of action to come!
Fake marriages are all the rage at the moment and this book did not disappoint. Ms. Sky did a fantastic job of building her characters, keeping them true to their nature throughout the book. The plot was interesting, with a few threatening twists and a great dash of fun between the sheets. As one would expect in a fake marriage the two despised each other to start with, but this was well tempered with the Hero, Maverick, showing an ounce of compassion to his hated bride in the beginning by supporting her through the loss of her father. They then go on to hate and soften to each other in various slides throughout the book. I think Ms. Sky did a good job of keeping this slow journey to kind of respecting each other (actually I should say she respecting him, he just kept being an arrogant ass) really well. I have a few gripes and that’s what kept it at four stars for me. The first, Maverick’s claim she should ditch her lover because he’s not a real man, which in itself was all right because I think he’s a complete arrogant ass. What annoyed me is Arwen started to think the same thing after she and Maverick finally had sex and she got a taste of his huge d***. But he’s still a complete arrogant ass regardless of the size of his anatomy and I hated that this should be the thing that changes her mind. Toward the end she says a lot that his is kind and compassionate but I failed to see any evidence of that except some almost begrudging acts of kindness at the start. Okay and the final thing that ticked me off was the way he turned his back on rescuing two women from being brutally raped, tortured and murdered, then goes on to kick her out of his house and protection for betraying him when she does save them, even though he knows she herself will be brutally beaten and raped. He explains it to his sister as saying ‘she’s not my problem.’ And how he couldn’t careless what happens to her. Now all of this was completely in keeping with his character, so good on Ms. Sky for that, but I hated the way she had Arwen act. Arwen became humble and apologetic when really she should be saying ‘you ass if you couldn’t be bothered to raise a hand to help those women, then I’m only to glad to say goodbye’. And the fact he couldn’t care less about her safety made me wish she gave him the two finger salute when he did say she could stay (only because his sister talked him into it). I looked at the blurb of the second book and decided after reading about how she loves him and how she thinks he is strong, smart and gorgeous and protective I would give it a miss. I can see how this book would really appeal. And it has, there are so many fab reviews. And it is well deserved. It has everything there for lovers of fake marriages and alpha heroes. Ms. SKy is a skilled writer and I would recommend it because my small gripes will likely not even be a consideration for most.
This book was absolutely the best one I’ve read this year. I loved it. I’m a big fan of Penelope Sky, so I knew I would like this book, but I wasn’t expecting for it to hit me so hard. I read it in record time and have already preordered The Wolf and His Wife, the second book in the trilogy.
I loved this book it’s so refreshing to read a whole new series from Penelope she is so talented and I’m dying of impatience as I wait for the 2nd book!!
once again Penelope creates a masterpiece! this book has it all, the dark, steamy, revenge, and so much more! this book will keep you wanting more!
The first book in a new series by Penelope Sky. The Wolf and the Sheep is family and loyalty at its best with Maverick and Arwen caught between what they want and what they must do. I thoroughly enjoyed these new characters and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Once again Penelope is onto another great series.. As one of my most favorite authors, Penelope never disappoints. I LOVE EVERYTHING YOU’VE WRITTEN and without a doubt will continue to love anything you write in the future.
I can’t wait until the next installment of this series is out. I’m loving reading as Maverick and Arwen’s story come together.
Love the characters and the story, can’t wait to see what happens next. Don’t like reviews that give spoilers, but know you will not be disappointed with this book.
I think this is my new favorite book. Its so different from the way she normally writes. I like the way this series of books is going. I fresh new spin on things. Im always a fan of a strong woman.
This book has a much different flow to it that all the others from Penelope. Caspian is probably the worst character ever and I want someone, anyone to put him out of his misery. There’s so much dysfunction in that family. It made me sad that Maverick really is just alone as Arwen, even with a father and sister left. He’s so jaded and cold-hearted, but the chemistry between he and Arwen warms him a little at unexpected times. With a war waging from multiple directions, these two can only rely on each other, too bad trust is broken. I enjoyed reading this story and seeing the layers peeled back on Maverick. I look forward to seeing how long the Wolf and Sheep an really live together but separate lives.
Another great book. Must read. The details. The sheep.. will she live or die. The wolf. Happy sad loving hating. This book has it all.
I have bought every book Penelope has ever wrote, even though they are all the same story line just with different characters, I still enjoyed the books. However this one I could not even finish. I mean as mentioned bad enough to basically read the same story over and over again with different characters, but now we have an open marriage with cheating and enjoying watching each other cheat? Really?? I am happy that I have found new authors books to read that write new and amazing stories with all their books. I was a loyal follower of Penelope’s but will move on now ,not happy with her writing anymore.
Very good book as usual. Penelopy Sky never disappoints. Excited for the next book!
Will you marry someone out of desperation? Arwen and Maverick were stuck with different reasons. ‘The Wolf and the Sheep’ had strucked with a lot of hurt and anger. Sigh, this slow burn romance really peaked my curiousity….
Another great series from a great author. Maverick and Arwen are forced to marry because of a bad situation her father got in. He has information for Maverick’s father so they agree on marriage. This is not the typical hearts and roses forced marriage that eventually turns into a great love story. Well at least not yet. These two have some serious chemistry going. But their agreement about their marriage shocked me. Their decision fits the whole point of the book. Some other reviewers didn’t like how this played out, but I think it’s perfect the way it’s written. I know this review sounds cryptic. But I don’t want to give spoilers away. Just keep an open mind when reading. This is not a sugary romance. It had elements of a darker read, gray more like it. But it’s so different, so amazing. I love everything Penelope Sky writes. She has the best imagination!
Wouldn’t you be raving mad with anger if someone forced you to marry against your will? The words forever and ’till death do us part are just not the words you want to say to a stranger who is always angry and demanding. If you life was on the balance, would you say yes?
Arwen finds herself in an impossible situation. She is an Opera singer and rich. Her family’s wealth goes back through generations of aristocrats. Now, her father is dying and the secrets must come out. He has made bad investments and they are totally broke. Her trust fund does not exist anymore. The home that has been in their family for generations now belongs to the bank. And as a final stab wound, she must marry a stranger in order to protect her life. Bad people are coming for her to take their revenge!
Maverick is also being forced into this marriage. Arwen’s father has some information that is vital to his father. The price for this information is to marry Arwen. His father has commanded him to marry or else he will put a bullet in his body, again. What a family!
This is the first book in this series. So far, this is not an enemies to lovers book. So far, this is a strangers to something like friends without trust kind of story. It is super driven by revenge and right vs wrong. Maverick’s father is definitely a sociopath that needs to be caught and done away with. No heart, no empathy, no remorse.
I can hardly wait for the next installment. Somehow I hope Arwen wins Maverick’s trust. Without it how can they move on to a new level in their relationship?
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I thank the author for sharing a copy with me.
I like that this book isn’t like exactly like all the others. Gives it something extra. But this book was good and I’d recommend you read it. Penelope never does you wrong.
I’m really loving this new series so far!!! It’s not your typical love story. There so much tension and intrigue definitely got me emotionally invested. The conflicts between fathers and daughter and fathers and son. Make for a massive crash of emotions. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read and a great start for a new series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
