Just finished and I can’t believe the rollercoaster I have been on since starting this book.Every time I thought that I had it figured out, I be wrong. A must read!!
I was completely engrossed in this book. I sat on the couch for four hours and read it cover to cover. The writing and the storytelling are really good.
Thursday is in a polygamous marriage. She only knows her husband’s other two wives as Monday and Tuesday. The wives don’t know each other and don’t even live in the same town. One day Thursday comes across the identify of Monday and that leads her on a journey to discover more about the two women she shares a husband with.
For the first 70% of the book, this was a five star read for me. I didn’t love the last part of the book. I feel like the book tried too hard to be something like Gone Girl and it just become convoluted. There were several sections I had to read over to make sure I was following the story. The last scene just seemed like an unnecessary attempt to shock readers.
The ending will shock you.
Good read.
I went into this book without knowing anything. I couldn’t put it down. I got sucked into a world of crazy and disturbing and didn’t even see the ending coming. This is a must read.
It’s been way too long since I’ve read a Tarryn Fisher book and I’m kicking myself right now. Every single time I pick up one of her books I am blown away by her twisted mind. I thought I knew what I was getting into but in true TF fashion, things are NOT what they seem. I loved her twist on the sister wives theme. Never saw any of the OMG moments coming. Brilliant job as always.
I loved the book. It’s such a great read. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s a page turner. I was up all night reading it and when I couldn’t sleep, I’d open it and read in the night. I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed it very much.
The Wives by Tarryn Fisher is a marvellous contemporary psychological suspense that I read in just one sitting. It was rather a creepy read that totally consumed me.
There is the question of what is real and what is imagined? Who is telling the truth? And who is lying?
Tarryn Fisher has a very cleverly constructed and unique plotline. She manipulated my emotions as the action took over my life.
The tale is written in the first person strengthening the reader’s involvement. I read with baited breath and head spinning as I tried to distinguish the truth from the lies. I had to work out where I could put my trust.
The Wives had the upsetting subjects of miscarriage and mental illness. These were sensitively portrayed.
Tarry Fisher is a new author to me but I shall certainly be hunting out more by her. The Wives was a thrilling and sinister read.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Sad, really sad, that there are those who live lives like this – paranoid and delusional. Not sure I care to read a book about them…………
This book was AMAZING and nothing like I expected!! Tarryn never disappoints and this was definitely no different. I loved Thursday and could feel her pain throughout the entire story.
A book club would have several topics to talk about with this woman’s story. The story kept me involved, wondering and questioning each character’s motive. It would be fun to discuss with other women to hear their view point.
4.5 twisted stars!!
Ok so I finally popped my Tarryn Fisher cherry!! And now I see why people are obsessed with her!! I was a little worried since this book had a low review rating but I think maybe she just sets the bar so high people are expecting unicorns with polka dots to jump off the page or some shit because this book was a mind bender for sure.
I read this book in one sitting. I was obsessed. I didn’t know which way was up. I kept second guessing everything and in the end my guessing was completely wrong. Lol.
Just thinking about having multiple husbands sends me into a panic attack. No way in hell I could do it. Seriously. But this book has me thinking well maybe it’s not so bad UNTIL it is so bad. Damn Gina! I am impressed at how such a small amount of characters in select few places kept my attention that long but hats off to Tarryn Fisher!!
I love her style of writing. It was clear, descriptive, funny, realistic and flowed marvelously. I can’t wait to read another book by her!!
Good read. Did not expect the ending.
Kept me reading till the very end!
Great Thriller
From everything I’ve seen about this story I was expecting a better read than what it was. The story had some entertaining sections and a twist at the end but it was just ok.
Rarely do I find a book that lives up to a description like “one of the most twisted, shocking thrillers you’ll ever read.”
But, in the case of The Wives by Tarryn Fisher, it really DID turn into one of the most twisted, shocking thrillers I’ve read.
I also rarely give 5 star reviews but I did for this book. You can read my full review on MPWNovels.com — https://mpwnovels.com/2020/03/06/book-review-the-wives-by-tarryn-fisher/
So this one understandably has some mixed reviews, and honestly I’m not sure if I liked it or not. Mild spoilers. On the “Pros” column it was edgy, hard to pit down, and I never wanted to stop reading. It kept me guessing throughout. On the “Cons” side it was full of generally unlikeable characters who were not all that realistic, and the theme of mental illness and postpartum psychosis vastly inflated. Would I recommend it: no. Would I like a redo on reading it: no. So lukewarm, with a mixed reaction for The Wives.
Tarryn Fisher spins a tale of polygamy in The Wives it is true or is it a riveting twisted tale of an unstable mind. Either way, the journey is a gripping one of different women three in total. All different shapes and sizes, all with different interests but two commonalities, Seth, their husband. The other is being pregnant. There is Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Thursday is the wife that is having a difficult time adjusting to the waiting and sharing Seth to one day a week. The tale is engrossing, absorbing, and compelling.
Few authors can keep up the suspense for the entire book, this author did. I wasn’t sure what to believe until the very end. Highly recommended.
