I read this from beginning to end – one sitting, once I started I could not stop until the last page!!!
Loved it!
It’s a fun read. Don’t over think the plot lines. I might have to reread it to see how it all hangs together.
Loved this book. Never knew where the story line would take you.
First Tarryn Fisher book and even though I was prepared for the fuckery that is Tarryn Fisher, I was not prepared for this book. Especially that ending!! What the actual fuck happened there???
This book had more twists and turns then I could have thought possible. Every single time I thought I had the story figured out BAM!! Plot Twist!! Thursday was a character I won’t forget anytime soon that is for certain. She had her own sort of…. style?? Yeah, we will go with style. Honestly though, I don’t want to say anything else. Just read this book and hold on to your panties because you are going to need to. From the first page it just sucks you right in until you are trying to unweave the mystery that is The Wives.
Huge twist. However, I still have questions. Well-written, fast read.
Twists and turns at corners you don’t even see coming. LOVVVVEEEEEDDDDD IT!
Brace yourself for a wild ride! This book was filled with so many plot twists and turns that you won’t see coming, and honestly I’m still reeling even months later after finishing it. My poor co-workers had to put up with my crazy rants and outbursts while listening to the audiobook. Definitely a book that will mess with your head!
I defy you to predict the ending of this one
Wonderful
All day long Thursday thinks about the other wives. Seth and Thursday have an arrangement where the wives don’t know each about each other. Thursday becomes curious as the months pass and she can’t help but satisfy that craving for answers.
The Wives is about Thursday’s growing need to find and talk to Seth’s other wives. She refers to the as Monday and Tuesday. When Thursday met Seth they had an arrangement where she was not allowed to make contact with the other wives.
Seth was the oldest son to a polygamous father. He grew up in Utah having to take care of his younger siblings.
Thursday is Seth’s second wife. He spends his time between Portland and Seattle. Over the years Thursday grows restless and insecure which leads to her obsessive behavior to find the other wives.
Narrator:
The Wives is narrated by Lauren Fortgang. Depending upon the speed you select this audiobook can be completed in about 8 hours. I read this book before revisiting with the audiobook. I enjoyed Lauren’s performance of The Wives she brought Thursday’s character to life. Lauren is an actor, narrator, and voiceover artist. She’s extremely talented. Her voice was pleasant. The audiobook was recorded in a professional studio. The narration was word perfect. I followed along with my ebook.
Overall:
All the clusters of clues layered throughout the story had me pausing. My mind quickly jumped to many conclusions in regards to these clues. I lock those thoughts away in the meantime focusing on the words ahead of me. I’ll come back to those highlighted thoughts later if something else gives me reason to restudy the words.
I’ve read every book written by Tarryn. I’ve followed her from the day she released her first book. It’s a privilege to gain access into her mind during the duration of reading one of her books. Since I’ve never met her in person I have to rely on the words she writes in her books. This is the closest I’ll get to being inside her head.
Of course, Tarryn is my go to author when I need a refreshing change from the typical tropes. Tarryn writes in a class and category all of her own. I can’t label her books as anything but original. I thrive off of originality. Being an avid reader I tend to lean towards a story that I haven’t already experienced.
Tarryn once again graces her readers with the love and support of women. Women band together against men. Once again Tarryn’s the voice for women. In this book Thursday is a female character who wants answers and breaks rules to get them. No man scares Thursday to stop her from getting the answers she deserves. Thursday’s character carried the story. Thursday’s character was the primary focus with three supporting characters. We watch Thursday evolve and adapt in this story based on the findings in her situation.
I’m on the hook…invested in the words…dissecting every behavior. The pages turn quickly as I try to piece together the puzzle that is laid out before me. It’s one of the puzzles where the picture is missing so you have to lay out the border first before you can fit the inside pieces together. As each piece gets connected the picture gets closer and closer to being finished. Except there’s that one missing piece that niggles in the back of your mind.
Wowza on the twists and turns. This book really surprised me and that doesn’t happen often, so kudos to Tarryn Fisher.
I suppose the biggest twist happens about 1/3 of the way through. Just when I’m starting to get “almost bored” with the narrative of a polygamous marriage it switches and from that moment on, I’m honestly not sure what to believe. Is this an unreliable narrator? A reliable narrator I want to empathize with? Or someone I don’t like very much but can’t help but feel sorry for?
Yes, yes, and yes to all of the above and I found myself turning pages almost faster than I could read them.
According to the Book Club questions at the back of the book, Fisher was an indie romance writer and this is her first thriller, traditionally published and a NYT bestseller. I don’t read romance (just not my thing) but I do read a lot of suspense, and she’s nailed it on the first try. Well, done and highly recommended.
What in the world did I just read? This story took me on a rollercoaster that I thought I had figured out but keeps you guessing till the end. Questions and what the heck moments. This story will keep you on edge from start to finish. You won’t want to stop reading. Great storyline and the characters are unforgettable. This is one you want to make sure is on your reading list.
Interesting subject/plot. Different from my usual reads. Kept my interest!
I would the first 160-some pages probably as five stars, because I was so into it and it was such a web of insanity, yet, wow, they really had a little system going. I mean I read that part of the book in one setting, and that rarely happens for me. I was getting to know the characters and enjoying the back and back (two backs on purpose) and forth about the wives, and then it did the thing it does, which you’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve ALREADY read this. I was like, “What? No. Please get better,” and it just didn’t. Not for me, anyway. Not ever. I wrote down one sentence that I loved in my Keepers book, but then I just read along until it ended and I was done, hoping all the while that it would redeem itself, but for me, it didn’t. The Keepers quote was a fabulous description of the sun searching for a way to peek through the clouds, but I don’t have the book here at hand to quote it exactly for you. But that was a wonderful sentence! I read this book pretty soon after reading “The Wrong Family,” which I really enjoyed, and so I thought I’d keep at it by reading this one, which was an earlier book of hers. Not the same enjoyment. But that being said, the beginning was really going somewhere for me. I wonder how I would’ve liked it to go instead? I haven’t thought much about it yet, but maybe someone else has thought of it and has a different, but similar and better book about it. I’ll have to go see.
Wow just wow.
My mind is blown. Like legit blown. I feel crazy after reading this.
But it was just that damn good.
I can’t say much without spoiling it.
Just WOW.
The Wives is beautifully written, winding and unwinding with the twisting mind of its protagonist. It had me guessing until the very last page. One thing that I immensely enjoyed were the bursts of reflection and wisdom from the unreliable narration. Can’t reccomend it enough for those who love thought provoking, psychological thrillers. If you loved The Girl on the Train, you’ll love this book.
Clever. It moved along at a nice pace with plenty of surprises along the way. A very interesting ending.
I did not enjoy reading this book at all. I found it depressing and was unable to connect to any of the characters, I cannot recommend this novel and do not think I will be reading any other books by this author
I had no idea what this book was about when I started it. I just knew I heard good things. I was expecting some twists and turns, but not even I would have seen it all coming. 10/10 recommend.
