Wow!!!!!! My head is still spinning and my heart still pounding like cray cray, when I think of this ending!! Tarryn is one of my go to’s for my thriller addiction.
Three women and what do they have in common…..Sean. How crazy this book is!!! I was hooked from the first paragraph, my head spinning, wtf is going on screaming in my head from chapter one. If I have one thing to say to thriller fans out there is READ THIS NOW… Tarryn never ever disappoints!! I can’t wait to read her next!!
After a few people highly recommended this book to me, I knew I had to check it out. It is certainly not my go-to genre, so I went in not knowing what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. It had me confused and mind fucked and truth be told, this book isn’t going to be everyone cup of tea.
This is a psychological thriller and boy did it take me on a ride I did not expect to be on or like. Normally I’d probably avoid books with this sort of plot but honestly, I am so glad I didn’t pass this up and I took a chance… This had my mind reeling and completely mind fucked, I spent the better half of this book trying to piece together everything and at every turn, I was throw off track. This isn’t a romance.. IN NO WAY IS IT, it does, however, hold some elements but it really is a book that will psychologically challenge you and morally change you. It was not a light read and it had me questioning my own mind.
Who is okay with their husband being married to two other women? You know he is, you know he’s sharing his heart, his body and his time with these women. It sounds like a book that would normally turn some people off, but the deeper I got into the plot and the more that transpired the most I was hooked and couldn’t put it down and the more I was looking at things in a different way.
As I said, this book was a mind fuck but an amazingly written, all-consuming, addictive and intense one and I cannot wait to see what her other books are like!
This was the first book by this author I have had the pleasure to read but it won’t be my last.
5 Thrilling Stars!

Wow, I don’t even know where to start. I have loved and read Tarryn Fishers books for years. Her books are always so different and such a breath of fresh air. Her writing is very unique. I can’t often predict what is going to happen in her books, but this one is a game changer.
I will say I don’t usually read thrillers, but the second I read the blurb I was intrigued. Plus it’s Tarryn, I knew it would be amazing. But not even I could guess what was coming in this book and how much I was going to enjoy it.
“It’s all too perfect, I think. When things are that perfect, something is wrong.”
This is hands down the craziest ride I have ever had while reading. I couldn’t guess a thing! I can honestly say I have never read a book quite like The Wives.
It did take a couple of chapters for me to get into it, and I think that’s just because this isn’t the genre I usually read and am used to, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. The Wive will have you feeling absolutely insane while reading. You never know what to believe and whatever you think is going on, you’re probably wrong.
“What has happened to me? How have I become this docile person, living for Thursdays and the love of a man who divides himself so thinly among two other women and me?”
This book will knock you off your feet and and keep you guessing until the very end. I have never wished so bad to be a speed reader than when reading this book. I just couldn’t get to the answers fast enough. And that ending!?!? Bravo! I loved it!
I think that even the people who don’t typically read thrillers will love and devour this book. It will 100% keep you on your toes the entire time. The storyline is so intriguing and gripping, and the characters have so much depth.
“I love my husband, but I’m not the only one. There are others.”
Tarryn’s writing is on another level with this one.
Just, do yourself a favor and pick this book up. This was a five star read for me and a favorite of the year.

Prepare yourself for a thrilling, twisted ride you don’t see coming!
The blurb told me one thing but nothing prepared me to what unfolded and developed!
The build up, the intensity and suspense!
Nothing is what it appears.
What a story to pop my Tarryn Fisher cherry!
Thursday’s journey was truly thought provoking, insanely suspenseful and gut wrenching.
As the story unfolds there are subtle hints that things are not what they appear.
In fact, at times it was sad to read, because this plural relationship was not always pretty. The characters were not likable, which for me added to the complexity of the story.
Thursday had me enthralled by her passions and emotions. Her perception of things and what she does about it!
Of course she does what she does!
No matter how much you think you accept something, there’s always that curiosity, that nagging feeling…
Who are they, what are they like?
Except… there’s a twist!
The writing was smart, realistic and relatable.
This story really begs the question…can alternative relationships have a happily ever after.
Can they really work?
The ending felt rushed but I still enjoyed the story.
4.5 stars!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.
Thursday’s husband, Seth, has two other wives. She’s never met them, and she doesn’t know anything about them. She agreed to this unusual arrangement because she’s so crazy about him. But one day, she finds something. Something that tells a very different-and horrifying-story about the man she married. What follows is one of the most twisted, shocking thrillers you will ever read. You’ll have to grab a copy and find out why.
Holy freaking cow!!!! What did I just read. I know if the description it says that this is one of the most twisted and shocking books you will ever read and that is true. I finished this book yesterday and I am still all over the place and asking myself how the heck all of this happened. This is one of those reviews that I don’t want to give a thing away but I will tell you that I liked Thursday. I really felt for her but I also like Seth and Hannah but Regina!!!! I am so not the fan of Regina. And I have decided if you like some of these characters Even Thursday that is ok. That just means that Tarryn Fisher wrote the book so well that you can help yourself from liking some and hating others. So to me the ending was kind of a satisfaction in a twisted way and I am not really sure what that says about me. It might even scare me just a little bit but I might have closed the books with a shocked face and then a grin. This too would make the best movie. People would never see anything coming and be on the edge of their seat the entire time.
“That’s how women are, right? Always wondering about each other, curiosity and spite curdling together in little emotional puddles. Little good that does; if you wonder too hard, you’ll get everything wrong.”
.
WOW! I know there are many mixed reviews out there, however, I enjoyed this book completely! I found it to be a refreshing psychological thriller and with all the twists and turns it really kept me on the edge of my seat! I could definitely see this being made into a movie & a thumbs up to the ending! I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a suspense read. Great job @Tarryn Fisher! Can’t wait to read more of your books!
It has been ages since I read a psychological thriller and I have to say Tarryn nailed it with this story.
I knew from the little teasing glimpses that we got that this was going to be something completely different, the storyline is unique one which will have you second guessing not only the characters but yourself too. Thursday shares her husband with his other wives but when she stumbles upon a secret everything in her life takes on new meaning.
I really didn’t know what to make of Thursday’s character, we know alot about her but as the story progressed I realised we had only scratched the surface of who she is. I became almost as obsessed with her as she was with finding out her husbands secrets. Reading the book I kept asking myself who and what do I believe. Tarryn is a writing magician, she has given the reader a deep twisty original well thought out story that is worthy of more than five stars.
What will happen when everything is revealed, is Thursday prepared for the truth I know that I wasn’t and that ending was truly jaw dropping.
I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I decided to read this book, it’s a curveball of a story compared to my usual fare of romance. I love romance-almost all kinds, but… to be very clear, The Wives is NOT, I repeat, NOT a romance. This is why it’s such a drastic change for me. I also haven’t read Tarryn Fisher before either, so I was going in totally blind.
In saying that, it hooked me from the opening pages. I wanted to know more about these ‘wives’ and throughout the story, I do find the truth. It’s unexpected and yet… not. I thought I had it all figured out, then, changed my mind only to discover I was on the right track after all.
This is a tense, suspenseful, twisty and at times emotionally vicious story. Thursday is laid bare and all her truths and fears are exposed. Is there a HEA. Well… all I can say is… this is a thriller, not a romance. It’s wicked, dark and will leave you with a whole host of emotions. Read it if you dare.
In the words of Samuel L Jackson, “ Hold on to your butts.” It’s no secret that I am a fanatic when it comes to Fishers words. Her books are thought provoking, inspiring, empowering and in this case completely mind fucking.
It took me a few days to put my thought and emotions together, and to be quite honest I’m still not quite so sure what happened. I was put inside of Thursday’s head, which at first seems pretty straightforward. Jealousy and loneliness come with being the second wife of three, right? Curiosity gets the better of sweet, Tuesday and in an effort to get ahead of the other wives, she decides she must learn more about the strangers married to her husband. So that’s where straightforward ends with this story. Lies, secrecy, hurt, and that’s just by 55%. I felt like I was spiraling right along with our poor heroine, begging for answers and love from Seth, who may or may not deserve it.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, Tarryn throws a twist so delicious, I felt like I should have broken out some toast points and wine to help me digest it all.
I devoured this book in one sitting and after I felt like that little gif of Oliver Twist with his bowl out asking for more.
I was expecting a 5 star read and that’s exactly what I got. 5 mind fucking stars. Not only will I be recommending this to all of my friends, I’ll be re reading this one again , after I gather the scattered bits of my mind that is.
5 What the Heck Did I Just Read Stars!!!!
So, I read this book a few months ago and I could not put it down while reading it. When I finished the book, I just didn’t quite know what to do with myself because I was still trying to wrap my mind around everything that happened in this story! As sometimes happens, life came on full steam and I didn’t write my review right away so I’ve spent the last couple of days re-reading different parts of the book that I had highlighted while reading so I could write an intelligent review….yeah I’m once again not sure what to do with myself because HOLY MOLY this book is dark, twisted and provides a sweet sense of satisfaction with the ending!
Ms. Fisher has outdone herself with this book. It’s diabolical in nature with a storyline that has passion and anger along with deception that is almost painful to witness. These women are all different and what they do in their lives is almost unexplainable. There’s this sense of sitting on the edge the entire time I was reading this book waiting for the proverbial next shoe to drop!
This story is very well developed, and the characters have many characteristics in common but there’s something different driving each of them. Watching this story unfold as I turned the pages had me almost nervous because I wasn’t sure I wanted to read what came next!!!
I being very vague with this review, but I’m not going to spoil a book for anyone that hasn’t read this yet. This is by far one of my favorite books by Ms. Fisher. It’s different from what I’ve read by her before which solidifies in my mind that she’s an author that can cross many genres and deliver a book that will stay with me for a long time to come!!!!
*5 Stars*
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I really don’t know where to start with this review. The Wives was such a complete and total mind boggling mystery. About a polygamist with 3 wives, and told from his Thursday wife’s POV, the story takes you on a journey from a general polygamist kind of storyline, to a storyline which has you thinking sinister thoughts and wondering just what on earth the truth actually is.
I really can’t say too much without giving things away, so I will keep it short and sweet. The more and more involved I got, the more and more I could not work out what was happening. I understood the story, yes, but the truth of the matter. The reality of this story. I needed to find answers, and when I got to the end, boy was a blown away.
Fisher wraps things up really nicely, and you get answers to all the questions. I’m thinking, oh yeah no worries, now I know what the truth of the matter was, and the story has finished up nicely. Net minute, BAM, it finishes on a completely unexpected note, that literally had me sitting there, staring at my kindle like a stunned mullet.
What a way to end a book. Definitely recommend this one. I really enjoyed reading something other than the typical romance stories I have been reading of late. This kept intrigued right til the end and surprised me many times.
Thursday is known to be a direct woman, but has made certain choices that have silenced her. Though she is defined by her circumstances, she is willing to play her role as a loyal wife until she no longer can. From that point, Thursday begins to piece together all the missing truths and lies.
“It’s all too perfect, I think. When things are that perfect, something is wrong.”
Narrated through Thursday’s perspective, the story unfolds at a steady pace as the routine of her life sets the foundation. However, when Thursday is presented with details about the other wives, her curiosity becomes insatiable leading her down a path she isn’t fully prepared for.
“This is why Seth keeps us apart – so we won’t focus on jealously and each other, but rather on our relationship with him.”
From the start, I had strong feelings about the characters and storyline then I had to recalculate a number of times due to the clever plot and character development. While at the beginning, it seems one way, there are varying factors that progressively erode assumptions.
“We’re all just waiting for someone to stand behind us, aren’t we? Even if it’s just one person, it gives you strength.”
What immediately drew me into Thursday is her vulnerabilities and the brokenness of her spirit. Though she tries to overcome her feelings of inadequacy, she can’t reconcile how she’s come to this place. Her raw emotional state is a powerful catalyst to the decisions she makes. As for Seth, his true colors were evident and I wish I could say more without a spoiler.
The Wives is a page-turning thriller with a layered plot, stimulating prose and challenging characters. This story had me absorbed to the very last page.

The Wives was my first book by Tarryn Fisher. I didn’t know what to expect when starting this book, I just knew from the blurb I HAD to read it.
This book was definitely different from anything I have read before. I will say I thought it was on the slower side in the beginning, but the storyline was interesting enough that it kept me turning the pages. By about the 50% mark the story started taking on an even more interesting appeal, because things started to unravel and reveal itself to the reader.
I don’t really think I have the correct words in this review to do this story justice. I would recommend this story to all readers who like a mind bending story and will keep you guessing all the way until the end.
This book is a standalone novel told solely from Thursday’s POV. This is a story that you can read without reading any other books by this author. I thought this was very well executed and the storyline was unique and thought provoking. This story will definitely have you thinking what you would do in this position.
I don’t want to say anymore about the story, because this is a book that needs to unfold for every reader on their own. I would suggest going into this book blind. I think if you read too many reviews or try to find spoilers, it would take away from the enjoyment of this book.
I know that after reading this book, I need to go back and read more of this author’s work. I look forward to her other books and what she her storylines will bring. This was definitely worth the read and the wait (since I have been hearing about this book for what seems like forever ;)) You will want to add this book to your TBR list and make sure you read this as soon as you can!!! Especially if you are looking for that different type of story…..This is IT!!!!
Nothing is what it looks like. Brilliant and mind blowing, The Wives is a good psychological thriller that will keep your attention on alert until the very end.
Knowing that somehow the twist is coming it’s enough to keep me interested.
The Wives was all this and so much more. The story line in itself is, for me, a must read. I love everything that might hint about an open marriage or polygamy, the jealousy that might come from it and how the couple work on it. So I dived into this book as soon as I could!
But as I said before, this story is so much more than all that. It’s suspenseful and mysterious, makes you doubt of what you just read and more importantly makes you think. Really think about all the information you have and seek answers.
This is one of those books you will appreciate it more if you go in blind.
I will start with the fact that this is my first Tarryn Fisher book and it is not usually a genre I read. I am not sure what I think. I am not sure what to rate. I am not sure if I even liked it or hated it. I had a hard time getting into it at first, but then I could not put it down and stayed up late reading it in one sitting. I could not really connect to the heroine, Thursday, and there is unreliability in her narration from the beginning. There are four main characters and most of them have secrets, lie, manipulate, feed insecurities, and it is still unclear who had the most issues. It is a convoluted, mind-bending, perplexing, constantly changing story, and it is hard to know what to believe even after it is over. Basically everything is not always as it seems and it looks different from every viewpoint. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. But it left me troubled and thinking about it and going back and questioning other parts I read. So after all is said and done, I am still not sure how I feel about it. But she created a story that was unique, twisty, layered, shocking, and full of interesting dynamics.

I’m just confused by this book. I on one hand want to give it one star but then again, I did finish it, and those book I usually give a generous 3 stars to. So here it is, 3 stars because I did finish it.
There are so many things that just didn’t do it for me. The writing was not smooth. It read so rough, and it was a lot of “I did this and then I did that.” Then with the plot, yeah it wasn’t what I was hoping. This is a book trying to be “Gone Girl” ish but failing horribly. There was a lot of plot holes, weak resolutions, convenient endings, and the ending was just nothing. There was no messages, lesson, or anything of substance. There was so much thrown at it that it turned into nothing. It was missing a hook in the middle of the book that I was hoping to draw me in there. That was a point I was hoping to get to and never did.
I don’t like that it use polygamy as a reason for the relationship when it wasn’t anything like that. I’m not an advocate for that type of relationship, but if you’re going to use – use it right. There was a word used in this book, it was an awful one, and there was no reason for it. It added nothing to the book/scene/etc, it was done in poor taste, and it just left me sad. Don’t disrespect someone’s life choices. If you have an issue with them, that’s your choice, but there’s no reason to disrespect them.
I was never given a reason to understand what it was about Seth that had these women with him. The woman should have made me rooting for them when I didn’t even get invested in them either. No matter what genre I read, I want to be invested in the characters I’m reading about – it didn’t happen here.
I really enjoy psychological thrillers, but this just missed the mark for me. I’m still standing by the generous 3 stars, I finished it, and it should get credit for at least getting me to the end.
Wow…just wowza…this book!! Ms. Fisher is gonna take you down a deep, dark rabbit hole and won’t let you see the light until she is ready to let you go.
The Wives takes you on a dark and twisty tale. What’s reality, what’s delusions, what is love and what is hate? So many questions and the answers are gonna floor you!
Thursday is the central character of this story, she is on the search for the truth in her world. But to find that truth, she has to go through so, so much!
Ms. Fisher has a magic to her words! I couldn’t put this story down once I started. I went through a whole gamut of emotions when reading this! With every character, I could find a reason to admire them and then hate them! I was second-guessing myself as I was reading this and that was amazing to me! Who was the victim? Who was the perpetrator? Who was the hero/heroine? Even at the end, I was wondering who to really cheer for in this story.
This is the definition of a thriller! This story is going to take your mind on a wild ride and you are going to need a minute or a day when you finish to really let the amazingness of this story to settle in!
Bravo Ms. Fisher!
What on earth did I just read???
My mind as well as my heart were officially confused as to what was happening….I couldn’t put this book down!
The further I read the more my heart pounded!
Best way to read this story, going in blind!
It is such a thrill of a thriller!
Honestly wasn’t sure which character to believe and then Id think ‘what is going on here?’
I genuinely got hooked in the storyline that grabbed my attention from the start and when it ended??!! What in the what????
As I read, I really felt like this was one of those midday movies that play with your mind! I kid you not! It was just…..yep not too sure to be quite honest!
The author has written a book that will no doubt stick in your mind as something you don’t quite expect!
Netgalley ARC received.
This book was so different from what I normally read, and I devoured this book. True to Tarryn Fisher style her writing and storytelling was on fire. She always has me on the edge of my seat when reading her books.
After reading the blurb I was very intrigued by this book and couldn’t put it down once I started. Thursday is the second wife and Seth spends one night a week with her. Each wife gets a night of the week. It’s crazy, the wives all know about each other just not names. I can’t imagine having a life like this and making it work, they are able to make it work. But some things don’t always work after some time. Things change when Thursday learns the identity of the third wife. I am not going to go into any details, this is a journey you need to take on your own. This book was full of twists and turns I didn’t see coming. If you’re a fan of thrillers you need this book.
I like this book! I REALLY like this book! Tarryn Fisher engaged me from the start with her story of a man with three wives told from the POV of Thursday, his second wife. “Imagining what the future holds proves difficult when factoring in two other women who share your husband.” I bet it does!!
Thursday, an RN, never would’ve imagined herself in a polygamous relationship, yet here she is, waiting for “her” day with Seth each week. She finds herself doing all she can to please him, to be his favorite. “Everything is just right, the way he likes it, and thus, the way I like it. It’s not that I don’t have a personality; it’s just that everything I am is reserved for him. As it should be.”
When she finds a note in Seth’s pocket containing the name of Monday, Seth’s third wife, she is curious to actually have a chance to find out who her “competition” is. Soon she becomes obsessed with knowing where Hannah is and what she’s doing. Her growing knowledge affects her relationship with Seth, and when she confronts him, his reaction is quite surprising!
From this point on, the story changes gears and Thursday, as well as the reader, must question everything she believes as to what is real and what is not. The twists and turns are well-played and so delicious!! And the ending – WOW! – very powerful!
I admire the author’s way of setting the scenes, and building her characters, layer by layer, until they seem absolutely real. The inner dialog of Thursday is fascinating, and very reflective of how many women inadvertently change who they are to please a man. I love Fisher’s adeptness with words and highlighted many passages:
“… women are stuck in a cycle of insecurity perpetuated by the way men treat them, and we are constantly fighting to prove to ourselves and everyone else that we are okay.”
“I remember thinking how fragile we were as humans, souls covered in tender flesh and brittle bone; one wrong step and we became someone else entirely.”
“Funny the emotional responsibility a woman is willing to take on just to maintain an illusion.”
If you’re looking for a good read, look no further. I highly recommend you add this to your TBR pile.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Graydon House for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
