Every single time I read a Tarryn Fisher book she f**ks with my head. But it’s in all the right ways. I couldn’t put this book down!!! I had to find out what was happening and what was going on and again I was totally left guessing and guessing. And just when I thought I had it all figured out then here comes a right turn and boom I knew nothing!! I would recommend this book to everyone!!!! And especially to men out there it might just teach some lessons to you….lol By Tina
Oh my goodness, I couldn’t put this book down. It kept me on my toes, the edge of my seat, I needed to know what was happening next! Thriller fans are going to eat this one up!
The Wives will take you on a journey you are not prepared for….
I enjoy my thrillers with a side of crazy because what great thriller doesn’t have a huge part of craziness in it? The Wives is no different. With polygamy not a hidden part of society anymore, I think any part of this world is fascinating to people who don’t see themselves in that world. I picked up The Wives for the sole purpose of seeing what Tarryn Fisher could and would do with this premise.
Thursday and Seth didn’t make me huge fans of their relationship. Not knowing who your husband is with other parts of the week definitely would make me a little apprehensive. Though Thursday knew what she was signing up for. What do you do when you find a receipt with another wives name on it? It is human nature to be curious and to want to know more. It is so hard to write this review without giving anything away.
I enjoyed this book, but I like crazy twists and turns, the more the better.. It is not a love story and the ending will make you scratch your head. But if you want a book that will completely take you out of your element and immerse you in a world that you aren’t normally in then this is the book for you.
Wow! I am all twisted up inside right now, but in the best possible way!
I’ve never read this author, and don’t often read this style of story, but I knew I had to give it a whirl because I’d been hearing nothing but amazing things about it.
And I have to say, it was amazing! I was constantly on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next. Every time I thought I had a piece of the puzzle figured out, I was quickly proven incorrect.
Twists, turns, and surprises around every corner, Tarryn Fisher had me guessing until the very last page. And I still had to re-read the last few pages because I couldn’t believe the ending.
This is an amazing five-star read, and definitely not one I’m likely to forget anytime soon. Well done, TF!
Mind officially blown!
Author Tarryn Fisher brings a new spin on what you might think marriage is.
This book is not romance, it is the total opposite.
Be ready to put on your thinking cap and have a notebook and pen handy to take down notes on who is who and what lies are true and false.
I love a good mystery when reading and this satisfied my sweet tooth for it.
Be warned once you start reading, you will not be able to put it down till you finish.
Soo many characters to keep you guessing while reading.
I liked how there was tons of karma that came back to bite those who totally deserved it. I was deliciously laughing evil at the outcomes.
Great way to end your year with a book that you will be talking about with your friends well into the New Year.
4 popped!
Wow! Tarryn Fisher is a master at writing the villain and making you sympathize yet despise them all at once.
This was one of my most highly anticipated releases. I was intrigued the moment I read the blurb; and the fact it was a new book from Tarryn was icing on the suspenseful cake!
My emotions and thoughts were a convoluted mess of facts vs…well, everything else! I honestly can’t say too much about this book because it is a experience that should be felt firsthand. The only thing I will say is that it reminded me a lot of Verity in the fact that I wasn’t sure what the hell was going on half the time…and I loved every crazy and intense moment of the ride.
My only complaint is that I didn’t care for the last page or two. I was looking for something different, not hearts and rainbows necessarily, just different than the last two sentences.
This book helps paint a picture for mental diseases and how they can impact a person and those around them. It demands its reader to accept the fact there is NO SHAME to admitting you face challenges. Tarryn’s books require a reader to shatter stigmas. That’s the impact her books have and that’s what makes her such a special storyteller.
Read this book because it’s good. Really good.
What a ride! My brain is still racing trying to come to terms with this story.
Polygamy has always intrigued me, as well as many other people. While it is a lifestyle I could never live, I can see why some people do. I was immediately intrigued by the premise of this story and that made it one of my most anticipated releases of 2019.
I don’t want to spoil a single thing about this book. I recommend you go into this with reading no more than the synopsis. Jump in, hold on for the ride, and get addicted to the story!
The only reason I couldn’t give this book 5 stars was because of the second half of the book. I felt like the twist could have been developed and fleshed out a little bit more. So much happened, a little too fast in my opinion. I also felt myself detaching myself a little from Thursday.
One of the things I love about fiction is that things can be a little far-fetched. Boundaries can be pushed and the journey can be crazy! This book is all of these things and more. This book is a true puzzle and my mind is still trying to put all the pieces nicely together.
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
The Wives is the first Tarryn Fisher book that I’ve read and WOW! I am completely in awe of this author’s writing and of this story. I thought that I knew what I was going in to but I was so VERY wrong!
I was hooked from the first chapter and I never knew what hit me. The plot twists and turns make this story absolutely unforgettable. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book and enjoyed every minute of it! What a fantastic way to end 2019 with an amazing book!
Every time I read a Tarryn Fisher book I’m left stunned. Her words and storylines are unlike anything else, and no matter what it is I devour every word. The Wives is no exception.
This book is, as per her usual, a once in a lifetime experience. It’s a book that you need to go into with no preconceived notions because, trust me, everything you believe will go out the window immediately. And with that recommendation, I’m going to stay tight-lipped on this story, and highly recommend diving in right away.
What I do want to talk about is the writing. Whether her books are your cup of tea or not there is no denying how extremely talented Tarryn Fisher is. She has an uncanny ability to not only lure you in with every word but to get into your head and force you to rethink everything you believe about yourself and your existence. I’m not sure if I would love or fear a day in her mind, but if it keeps rolling out stories like this I hope it never stops.
***I received an ebook copy from the author at no cost***
Allow me to describe this book in one word – twisted.
Thursday is married to Seth – who has not one, but two other wives. She’s comfortable with the arrangement and knew what she was getting into from the beginning but eventually curiosity gets the best of her and she starts researching the other wives. That’s when we find our main character embarking down a road of bitter jealousy and rage.
It’s impossible for me to discuss the full plot of this story without spoiling it for potential readers, so I’m going to avoid talk of anything specific that happens. I will say that this book was a total mind bender and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. Fisher put so many twists and turns into this that I thought I’d get whiplash. The ending blew me away because I wasn’t expecting it at all, despite the little hints that were there throughout the course of the story. The ending was absolute perfection in my mind, for Thursday and the others involved in the story. I think that everyone got what was coming to them in one way or another.
This story has a unique plot and is well-crafted. The second half moved a little slow at times, but there was enough suspense to keep me chomping at the bit for more. Fisher did a great job with Thursday as a character. Her path from happily devoted wife to paranoid and ragey wife was well done and believable. There were several times in the book where I flat out just didn’t like Thursday, and I think that’s
testament to Fisher’s writing skills. The secondary characters were well-developed and fit into their respective places in the story. I went back and forth on my feelings for Seth but, you’ll have to read the book to figure out why.
If you’re a fan of suspense and stories that keep you guessing with every turn of the page, then The Wives is a good book for you.
Four stars to this novel!
**** This book had many trigger topics that I will outline at the end of my review. ****
This book threw me for a loop! Which way is up? Am I really here? What just happened? That’s how I felt when I finished this book.
So much deception and layers upon layers of drama. I thought the story was going one way and then a bomb drops and it takes a total 180. This read kept me guessing and speculating right up to the last sentence.
I really enjoyed Thursday’s POV and how she did a lot of self reflection during the story, always second guessing her thoughts and feelings. She was more human that way. Flawed but knowingly so. I honestly felt bad for her. Clearly she was a little off but to what level was so hard to predict.
I despised Seth from beginning to end. A master manipulator and unfaithful partner. He did zero good in my eyes. There was no pity party hosted by me for him! I honestly felt like he got what he deserved in the end.
Poor Monday/Hannah. My heart hurt for her. Young, naive, easily persuaded. She was the only character in the entire book that I truly felt sorry for. Kept in the dark and strung along.
Tarryn did an incredible job of weaving an insanely intricate tale. It held my attention from beginning to end. I was constantly second guessing what I thought I knew about the story line and the characters. Each chapter revealed a little more but never enough to draw a concrete conclusion about what as really taking place. I loved the ending. I felt like it wrapped up the story very well and answered many of my burning questions.
*** Trigger warnings in this book: Mental illness, self harm, sexual and physical abuse, infidelity, infertility and pregnancy loss, suicide. ***
The Wives by Tarryn Fisher is an enthralling look at Thursday’s quest for answers when she finds something that makes her question her unconventional polyamorous marriage. (There’s a phrase I never thought I’d write.) Tarryn Fisher is known for writing amazingly relatable imperfect characters and Thursday is no exception. The twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last sentence. This book is brilliant.
Tarryn Fisher’s writing isn’t for everyone. She’s not hearts and flowers. If you’ve ever wondered if you’re actually the villain in the story, then she’s definitely for you. If you can’t deal with questioning everything you’ve ever held true and unreliable narrators? Not so much.
Since I read the blurb for The Wives by Tarryn Fisher, I knew I wanted to read it. A suspenseful psychological thriller, I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I devoured this book and could not put it down.

She tries to be the best wife she can be on the day she gets to see him, but when she meets one of the other wives, she starts to question who her husband is. Once Thursday starts to question everything, things began to unravel and we are taken on a wild and thrilling ride.

What a ride! A total must read! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic Read
Tarryn Fisher re-quenched my thirst for Psychological Thrillers and Suspense…
If you love romance with your mind being blown… this one is for you.
Hannah never saw herself as the doting wife who would have to share her husband with other wives, or worried about protecting them. I will tell you all is not what it seems and you find yourself not sure why you are rooting for any of the characters in this book while at the same time hoping for this best. This was one of the best books I have ever read and give high recommendations for you to read.
5 Stars Amazing! Don’t you wonder sometimes how twisty an authors mind can get?
Thursday is a nurse and that is the evening of the week that she spends with her husband, Seth. His other wife is Monday, who is expecting, and his third wife was the first woman he married.
Not long after Thursday met Seth, he admitted that he was married. He also told her that his parents were polygamists. Although the thought of being in a relationship with someone like that appalled her, she still couldn’t help but love him.
Now, Thursday is becoming more curious about Seth’s other wives and is determined to find them and meet them. This opens a can of worms that gets way out of hand.
I found this plot to be quite different from any I’ve read before, so I was rather intrigued to see what would happen. A lot did happen, but there wasn’t that big “A-Ha!” moment that I had hoped to find. While it’s a somewhat pathetic tale in many ways, it’s also sad to think that there are people out there like that.
I’m sure a lot of readers will really like this story judging from the other reviews I have read. Do read it yourself and let others know what you think.
Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I went into this knowing it wasn’t a romance novel, it was psychological thriller which I love! I love testing my theoretical thinking and having my mind twisted around with a plot that keeps me guessing The Wives did just that.
The Wives centres around Thursday the second wife of three her husband is married to. A woman knowingly in a Polygamous relationship and content with the reasons and restrictions this arrangement has on her time with husband Seth. That is until Thursday gets little hints and clue’s about the identity of the other two wives and curiosity gets the better of her.
I found the early sections of the novel a little slow, but in the grand scheme of things this was needed to lay the groundwork and give you an insight into Thursday’s everyday existence. Once she begins to question who these women are you really get sucked into the whole story of it all. I found myself just as curious as Thursday, trying to figure out what was going on, trying to work out what was coming next as well as what was happening in the present chapter. I didn’t guess it, I thought I knew but I didn’t entirely, there were so many plot twists, so many clever aspects of the story weaved throughout that I just sat back and enjoyed the ride and I found it hard to put down once it gained momentum.
The ending!!!!!! what can I say, that ending left my jaw on the floor! I was flicking my kindle pages back and forth to find some missing pages because what the………
If you love books like Verity by Colleen Hoover, Black Lies and the Ghost Writer by Alessandra Torre you will enjoy this novel too.
If you’re looking for distraction from everyday life, let me point you in the direction of THE WIVES by Tarryn Fisher.
There are plenty of twists and turns in this book as the heroine, Thursday, starts to rock the relationship boat she’s found herself in with husband, Seth, and his two other wives. This is not a story of polygamy through rose-coloured glasses. The author has created characters who are rational enough to understand the situation they find themselves in as they lead a non-conformist lifestyle.
Thursday’s decision to reach out to husband Seth’s other wives results in lies being revealed, secrets being unearthed and so many questions being raised about what kind of life each of these women though they were living.
An entertaining read you’ll want to recommend to friends.
4/5 stars
This book BLEW ME AWAY. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down. HIGHLY recommend reading this where you will have ZERO distractions or interruptions because it is IMPOSSIBLE to put down!
I have only previously read one book by Tarryn Fisher and knew going into this it would be a twisted crazy work of literature and let me tell you it definitely was!
Seth is married to three women, but legally only actually married to the one who narrates the book. She lives in Seattle, Washington and is a busy nurse and Seth only sees her on Thursdays. She calls the other two wives, Monday and Tuesday since she doesn’t know their names. Seth comes from a family of polygamists, but chooses to have three wives live in separate places and leads completely separate lives with each of them. The wives all know about each other but not their names or where they live. Thursday has always accepted the relationship the way it is and would cherish the time she had with Seth, but she decides this isn’t enough for her any longer and starts to dig up clues on how she can figure out more information on the other wives. To avoid spoilers this is all I will say about the plot. The rest you must to find out for yourself!
Tarryn Fisher is an incredibly unique and talented writer. She is a master of twisty story lines and the way she writes these flawed intriguing characters is just so different than any other author I have ever read.
The Wives is a story full of manipulation and unpredictable characters with so many twists and turns you will never see coming! The first half of the book is completely different then the second half with an ending that will shock you to your core and will leave you questionning what you just read long after you finish.
Thank you Graydon House Books and & Netgalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
She’s his legal wife in the Polyamorous reletionship. Her day is Thursday.
Tuesday is his original wife, and Monday is his new lady.
Three very different women all love one man and share him.
But is it all a bed of roses, or is there more going on behind the scenes..?
Oh my gosh, what a book to lose my Tarryn Fisher virginity on!
My head is still spinning now with all that I just read!
The twists and turns, drip fed backstory, and the unexpected hits all combine to create the perfect thriller.
This is such a hard review to write as I dont want to give anything away but know this. No matter how you feel at the start, by the end your mind will be blown, the shock and awe factor will have your pulse racing and you will need a time out, or maybe that’s just me!
Phrases like “I didnt expect that” and “oh my gosh, noooo” swam in my mind quite a few times and that’s what I loved about this. There was no warning, nor predicting what was about to happen. It just hits you in the face like a door, and that alone puts this book above so many others.
I simply loved loved loved this! not everything has to be flowers and romance the drama and grit can often be better and this to me was just that.
This is, hands down, my favorite read in 2019.
The Wives by Tarryn Fisher is a full length, stand alone, not a romance novel. The Wives is a daring read, the story consumed me, put me through a rollercoaster of emotions, gutted me to the core and did not put me back together. TF is a master at writing gripping stories with a never ever expected twist. Take Mud Vein or The Assistant – The Wives tops them both, and that I never had believed to be possible.
I will not spoiler here, only so much, Thursday is one of Seth’s three wivies it seems. Her and the other two never met each other. But when she can’t let it rest, fate takes charge.
The author kept me in suspense from chapter one til the end. I started reading and then simply couldn’t put it down anymore. I read the whole book, cover to cover in one sitting, strongly rooting for the heroine and now I’m sitting here and simply don’t know. I’m empty, out and the only thing that I know is this book will stay with me for a long time. I highly recommend The Wives, 5++ Stars.
