Story told in a most confusing and uninteresting manner. Unable to finish, just too tiresome and boring. Some might find it enjoyable, but not me.
A very entertaining book.
I love this book! The plot is real meaty and unpredictable and the characters are complex and intriguing. Murder, mystery, friendship, family, courage, tradition, loyalty,
even romance, and good vs evil all wrapped up in a beautiful story.
I had high hopes for this book. I lived in the area that was the setting for several years. I found myself upset about the geographical references, the author wrote like the two places were so far apart you couldn’t go back and forth in a day and locals couldn’t pronounce the names of the different places within less than 50 miles. I wasn’t a local and knew how to pronounce the names of places within a 75 mile radius in less than 6 months and made day trips several times. The book had a decent plot but the that was about it, the rushed ending and editing errors was a no for me and I won’t be reading another from this author.
I enjoyed the overall story I didn’t particularly care about the back and forth
Best read in a long time…!!
How I wish this tree could tell us all that it’s seen. Excellent story.
Well done Southern Gothic. Being Southern born and bred, I felt an instinctive understanding for the characters.
The author uses an interesting form of ‘time jumping’ to show consequences across multiple generations. It works, but I felt it didn’t leave enough to the ability of the reader to work out part of the mystery on their own. An enjoyable read if less cerebral than I prefer my mysteries.
I have really enjoyed reading this series. I particularly enjoy the way the author mixes family history (known, unknown, and purposely hidden) with the events in the present, exploring how events in the past shape current situations, and allowing his characters to stumble down wrong paths on the way to uncovering truths. Each book deals with an underlying real-world issue in a way that allows the reader to think about it without it being too tied to current headlines.
Interesting tale of several characters and how events roll right into the next generation.
I loved this book. You never knew what was going to happen.
Couldn’t put it down. Great twists. Excellent character development. Story line original and thought provoking.
Interesting read – will you figure out the ending?? I doubt it!!
I would have liked it better if I didn’t have to put it down so often. Would have been better to read in one sitting. With all the back and forth, I kept getting lost.
Very difficult to get into the storyline so I did not finish but read the ending. I will not continue to read this series. Sorry, it just wasn’t for me.
I love to read about the south and local people having been born there. This is a bit wicked and a lot wonderful.
I enjoyed reading this book
When the grandfather of Felix Herbert dies and his will is read, Felix hears that the family fortune won’t necessarily be handed to the next of kin. His grandfather has left a rather obscure request for Felix to visit his father’s hometown and discover what secrets the past might hold.
Felix, his partner Melancon, and a family friend, Tomas De Valencia follow the instructions left …. and what they discover is a blood feud over 40 years old.
But there’s someone who doesn’t want the truth revealed and will be doing whatever it takes to keep the dark secrets buried.
This is an extremely well written mystery, full of suspense starting with the very first page. Surprising twists and turns kept me riveted from start to finish. It starts with an incident from the past.. then moves to the present. Characters go back and forth time and the author has done a fine job keeping boundaries clear so there is no confusion. The characters are deftly drawn and I look forward to seeing more of them in the future.
Although third in a series, this is easily read as a stand alone. I always recommend starting out at the beginning in order to see all those little nuggets that are so very interesting and lend credibility to the story telling.
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
