Whilst this book is a standalone it features amongst the Miracle Express books but it also gives us Gard’s story whom we first met in The Search for Sam. I already liked Gard & so glad he’s become a detective & hopefully in a future book he’ll find his brother. Terra was intelligent, caring & often frustrated at being ignored in what was very much a man’s world. I loved the chemistry between Gard & Terra & how their relationship developed. A lovely romance with a mystery to solve too. I read it in a sitting & thoroughly enjoyed it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

My review :
When a peculiar specialist in railway second a newly appointed detective, can they move forward …
I discovered this series thanks to Tammy Andresen, I have other loaded in my kindle app but I haven’t yet found time to read them.
Terra made herself a promise, whatever the cost, she will save her twin. But by fighting for her independence, she in some way became unable to differentiate kindness to patronizing. She wants to stand as a woman in charge but she is rude to Gardner while he wants only to help. Hopefully she soon understands her error and sees truly Gardner for whom he is.
Gardner is such a sweet soul, enjoying life at the fullest, never pressuring others, happy for everyone and very open minded. When Terra rebuffs him, he first analyzes to see what he did wrong. He is a true sweetheart, never pressuring her and patient to let her accept him enough to offer her trust.
In parallel they are investigating on a special case, it is here the paranormal side of the story is the most significant.
I always do love a bit of magic in my stories, and here without being spectacular, it is a motor in the mystery they have to solve.
This book was a very entertaining read, mixing romance, history setting and sleuthing.
The time period is not typical for me, the 20’s, but it shows that whatever women had won, it was still mostly denigrated than praised.
For those interested, it is a clean romance.
4.5 stars for this enjoyable and intriguing read.
I was granted an advance copy by the author. Here is my true and unbiased opinion.
