This story was not good and it has nothing to do with witches. It was plodding with too much explaining, repeating, and over analyzing of everything. When some action did occur it was so predictable that you just wanted to get it over with. It was like watching a teenage horror film where you want to yell at the screen to keep the characters from doing something stupid. It was difficult to finish this book. A woman who works in the book trade loses her job, boyfriend and apartment all in one day. She sells all of her belongings and moves to a small seaside town to start a new job in a quirky old used bookstore. She has dreams of owning her own used bookstore and wants to learn everything she can about the business. She gets herself into trouble almost immediately by purposefully failing to follow her employer’s instructions and as a result, loses her job. She becomes a suspect in a murder by being in the wrong place at the wrong time and decides she must solve the crime to clear her name. She does and manages to get her job back, but it wasn’t very fun being along for the ride.
The story is engaging and the character Montgomery is especially intriguing. I liked the description of the town and book store. But if you’re expecting witches, they aren’t there, although something seems off in the small town. At times the main character is rash, but everything comes together in the end.
Very good Paranormal read.. I reccomend this series
Strikingly eye-catching for lovers of books since books are the center of this story!
The Witching place was a pleasurable read. It is a light whodunnit in true cosy style. Rachel Sage has always wanted to own a second-hand book store like the one her father had when she was a child. When she is made redundant at the publishing firm where she worked she also loses her boyfriend. Faced with nothing holding her back she decides to move to a little seaside town to work at the Curious Bookstore
The bookstore proves to have its secrets and Rachel is soon in trouble with the owner and when she stumbles on the body of an important book shop client she is thrown into the murder investigation as her future is on the line. The Witching place was a good read and the audiobook is very good.
Good for a First Book in the Series!
I enjoyed the book; however to be honest, there were some slow aspects, as well as some anecdotal disappointments with morality at times. Nevertheless, going forward, I am curious to see how the series continues, so I will continue with this next in the series eventually.
The book is a opportunity to really go anywhere for the series, so it did leave me excited about her future!
Good story for teenagers and very young adults.
I really enjoyed this first entry in a series by a new to me author. This is a cozy mystery with substance. I felt I got to know and cheer for the heroine as well as her new home in a very short time. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Enjoyed the characters and the unusual setting and a strange twist to the story. Did not figure out the mystery before hand. Excellent read.
A magical murder mystery that keeps you wondering who dunit.
Enjoyed it.
This book is about a woman who quits her job and finds work in a bookstore that specializes in rare books. She gets fired because she upset a customer. She goes to apologize and finds the customer dead.
Welcome to a small town mystery.
Alexis quit her editorial job at the publishing house when her nonfiction department was eliminated. Her job hunt led her to the small town of Incanton, just outside Boston, where she started working at The Curious Bookshop. Several things about Lex made her a not very likeable character: her negative and fatalistic attitude, her willingness at age thirty two to allow her mother support her with rent money, her obsession with her childhood memories of her disappearing father, her reluctance to let the police do their job in finding a murderer. This book was just so-so, and I can’t recommend it.
Great light reading
Sorry not my kind of book–started like a teenager’s read
Too short, look forward to more creative writing
