Massachusetts, 1692Everyone thinks they know about Salem. The claims of witchcraft and the black arts. But, hidden by all the hysteria, there was real wickedness occurring not more than fifteen miles away from the hardened gaze of the Puritans of Salem Town.Notley Village was small, peaceful and quiet. At least, it appeared to be. But hiding beneath the façade was an evil that would have shocked … would have shocked a nation… and turned the hair of the goodly Reverends of New England pure white.
Rebecca and Rachel, daughter of a never married woman, are desperate to get away from small Notley Village. They’ve been on the outskirts of Puritan society because of their mother’s choices and hope to have a different life.
But they’ve also been exposed to Notley’s secrets. The rituals that the coven used to perform are often considered to be playacting, things done just for fun. Rebecca and Rachel are just desperate enough to dip into this old bag of tricks to find the men who will give them their new lives.

This is the first story that I have read by Alexandra Noir that is not a hot and heavy erotica story. There is actually quite a bit of story to this.
This is during the time of the Salem witch hunts. There are two girls, Rebecca and Rachel, were the outcasts of their town of Notley Village. Her mother wasn’t married and never plans to marry. The girls have a small garden and they hunt for their food. They mother brings home things now and then from when she works down at the docks. The girls want to become part of the local coven. The only way is to submit to punishment. Rachel enjoys the punishment of the whip, crop and cane so she takes the place of her twin so they can learn how to become a witch. When the old Hayward place that they have been using for their coven has been sold, they do a spell to attract a new place that is safe for their coven. While they are casting this spell, the girls also throw in their desire for a husband each. More subdued Rebecca wants a man with blue eyes that works as a clerk so he will be home every evening to spend time with her, unlike a farmer who works all the time. Rachel wants a man who will be able to give her the punishments that she needs and desires.
It just so happens that the man who bought old Hayward place is the older brother of a man in nearby Salem who has a merchant company. When he comes to check out the property, he is told that some people will be sent to him to help him get his home and property in order. The sisters are sent to help with the house.

Set during the times of the Salem Witch trials, our heroines are willing to do just about anything to escape the town.
This is a fascinating combination of history and BDSM that I did not foresee, but I am glad to have encountered. The story skillfully blends that two into a fascinating, and very steamy, story which really caught my attention and kept me reading right up to the end. The characters are well developed and fit well into the historical context, with all the prejudices of the era. I found the story to be highly entertaining.
Highly recommended.

This is the second book in “BDSM and Magic in the Colonies” series by Alexandra Noir. Once again, she has given her readers a great read, and what will be an interesting series. This is an intriguing series and can’t wait for the next book. I was lucky to be given an ARC copy of this book for my voluntary and honest review.
Rachel and Rebecca were the bastard twins to an unmarried woman in the town of Notley. The twins had made an agreement with Branden to take part in the ceremonies at the old Hayward place. In exchange, they would be permitted to learn more and become more involved with the coven. Brandon had promised as their reward for the punishment they would endure they would never be on the outside again, instead they would be amongst the leaders of the community. This is the second book in “BDSM and Magic in the Colonies” series by Alexandra Noir. There’s always been horror and a bit of an allure to the stories of what happened during the Salem Witch Trial days. Call it a morbid fascination if you will, but there is the underlying “what if” factor and Ms. Noir has certainly expounded on it. It’s absolutely delicious in its innuendos and scenes. The world-building is explained in such a way it becomes visual as you read. And the characters? Yes, their personalities and actions are so well written they are certainly relatable. I’m so intrigued by this series and can’t wait for the next book. I was given a copy of this ARC and then got my own copy to give my voluntary and honest review.
