“Reader to reader, knitter to knitter: You’re going to love this book.”—Debbie Macomber
For fans of Jennifer Chiaverini and Sarah Addison Allen, is an enchanting novel about the bonds between sisters, the indelible pull of the past, and the transformational power of love.
The Van Ripper women have been the talk of Tarrytown, New York, for … women have been the talk of Tarrytown, New York, for centuries. Some say they’re angels; some say they’re crooks. In their tumbledown “Stitchery,” not far from the stomping grounds of the legendary Headless Horseman, the Van Ripper sisters — Aubrey, Bitty, and Meggie — are said to knit people’s most ardent wishes into beautiful scarves and mittens, granting them health, success, or even a blossoming romance. But for the magic to work, sacrifices must be made — and no one knows that better than the Van Rippers.
When the Stitchery matriarch, Mariah, dies, she leaves the yarn shop to her three nieces. Aubrey, shy and reliable, has dedicated her life to weaving spells for the community, though her sisters have long stayed away. Bitty, pragmatic and persistent, has always been skeptical of magic and wants her children to have a normal, nonmagical life. Meggie, restless and free-spirited, follows her own set of rules. Now, after Mariah’s death forces a reunion, the sisters must reassess the state of their lives even as they decide the fate of the Stitchery. But their relationships with one another — and their beliefs in magic — are put to the test. Will the threads hold?
BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Lisa Van Allen’s The Night Garden.

What a delightful book about magic (so of course I’d love it) and sisterly bonds (so of course I’d love it for that, too). I grew up very close to Tarrytown, New York, where the book takes place, so the legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman feel like they’re practically a part of my DNA. It was so much fun to hear these legends come …
I loved this book! You get involved with all the main characters and keep going to find out what’s happening with all of them. We read this for book club; everyone really enjoyed it.
Knitting and magic and secrets. An odd book, but fun!
fun read with a little mystical bent
great story and character development. Well written and edited.
Loved this book and the characters portrayed.
I have always loved the setting where this story takes place. It is replete with mystery. The characters were well defined and woven together into the family. The idea of knitting wishes into garments created to caste good spells is certainly original and made the read fun. There is an element of saddness as the story develops, but I was satisfied …
A great read , entertaining recommend reading this during Halloween!
Book started off slow, unable to keep my interest till half way through the book.
I wasn’t sure how a book about a multi generational family of knitting “witches” was going to be, but I enjoyed it. There were real world issues that made the whimsical believable.
Very unusual story
I love Debbie Macomber! Her books are light hearted & fun to read. Love, love, love!
The work of your hands is always a special gift. How much more so when a magical element is added. Magic has its own will in this charming read. Sisters, and even nieces, quirky and strong willed, do unite to work together in this special yarn shop. Wish there were a shop like this in my town!
I enjoyed reading this book and it’s colorful characters who realized that their family was the most important part of their lives.
I liked the characters and the element of magic in the storyline, but the plot just ended. There was resolution as far the the family involved was concerned, but the plot line did not really have a satisfying conclusion.
The story felt authentic. It was unique in the setting of the family and their business. They had a tradition of knitting spells for their clients, knitting a spell into a woolen scarf for example. In exchange, the client must sacrifice a personal belonging . What I appreciated most in the book was how each character, who had experienced the …
I enjoyed the quirky characters, but then, aren’t we all? The writer knitted a story that kept me intrigued and wove a touch of inspiration and a dash of family relationships together to make a spiritual journey cozy, yet confrontational as the characters faced an unsure future of their unusual family tradition.
Tarrytown serves as an excellent backdrop against a storyline of magic spells and town politics. I enjoyed the various storylines and characters but found the ending convenient and contrived. It negated the premise of the magic.
Enjoyed the knitting references…. not into magic in knitted stitches
It was a comforting real life story with a lovely touch of magic in it.
