New Orleans, a city of mystery and magic, of secrets and dreams, and a history drenched in both love and the deepest of heartache. When ballet dancer Clara Campbell arrives in New Orleans, lonely and homesick, she is immediately captivated by the story of Windisle Plantation and the tragic tale that is said to have transpired beyond its gate. Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living … living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man. A scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison.
The ruined man behind the wall hides himself from the world. The last thing he expects is to find a friend in the selfless girl who speaks to him through the cracks in the rock. The girl who keeps returning week after week. The girl who makes him wish for things he has long since given up on. The girl who strikes both fear and hope within his wounded heart. But there can be no future for them, no life beyond Windisle, for no one knows better than him that monsters only live in the dark.
The Wish Collector is the story of shame and triumph, of loneliness and love, and the miracle of two hearts connecting despite the strongest of barriers between them.

The moment I saw the cover for The Wish Collector and read the blurb, I knew that this book will possibly change my life. And it did! This story consumed me in every way possible. I’ve cried throughout the entire book. Sometimes because it was so terribly sad, but the other times it was so beautiful and touching it took my breath away. I’m a sucker for a great love story, but add mystery and magic to the mix and let Mia Sheridan tell the story and I’m in book heaven. She is one of the most talented authors I ever came across in this industry. Her writing is beautiful and fluent. Her words touch me every time so deep I need days to recover from the impact they imposed. Mia’s books always tell a story about love, but there is something unique about the circumstances behind them and the way she tells these stories, especially this one. Her characters feel real, because she really let’s you get to know them, to understand them and love them with all their flaws. And boy did I love Jonah and Clara, but John and Angelina too. The most amazing thing about the Wish Collector is the fact that we not only get one, but two love stories that are somehow magically intertwined. I’ve honestly never read a book like this before.
When ballet dancer Clara Campbell arrives in New Orleans, the city of mystery and magic, she feels terribly lonely and homesick. Her father had stayed behind in Ohio encouraging her to follow her dreams. When she hears the tragic story of Windisle Plantation and the weeping wall where people slip wishes on little papers in hope of their wish being granted, she is instantly intrigued by the story. Legend has it that the plantation is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man: the Wish Collector. A scarred stranger stricken by great grieve and pain, hiding behind his self-imposed prison.
Jonah is a ruined man, a shadow of his former self. Once a very successful attorney, he is hiding behind a wall from the world. The last thing he expects is to find a friend in the selfless girl who speaks to him through the cracks in the rock. The girl who keeps returning week after week asking about his family’s sugar plantation that was build more than 200 years before. Clara’s sweet and compassionate persona makes Jonah wish and dream for things he has long given up on. But there can be no future for them, no life beyond the gates of Windisle, for no one knows better than him that monsters don’t deserve forgiveness and only live in the dark…
Jonah and Clara made me swoon so hard! There was such a deep understanding and connection between them, it was palpable on every page. I loved how their slow burn romance started as an unexpected friendship und turned into more. I swear their both names are imprinted on my heart so I can carry them with me forever and always.
Clara’s gentle and caring personality was so endearing. I wanted to hug her and tell her that people like her make this world a better place. She was literally Jonah’s salvation. Her light and love menaged to shine through the cracks of his armour, making him want to break out of the darkness surrounding him.
Jonah was an amazing young man who made mistakes, like we all did. He paid a high price for his wrong decisions and believes that he deserves nothing good in his life. It will be Clara’s love that will give him wings to fly and break out of his self-imposed prison and forgive himself.
I can say without a doubt that The Wish Collector is a very unique story about loss, regret and redemption and how love can be found even in the darkest of places. There is no bigger miracle than two hearts connecting despite the strongest of barriers between them!
Mia Sheridan I bow to you! You totally surpassed all my expectations with this book. And my expectations were huge! With The Wish Collector, I haven’t only found a top favorite read of 2018, but also my new favorite book of yours. I’m giving this epic masterpiece 5+++ well deserved stars.
I’m not quite sure what to do with myself after reading The Wish Collector. Mia Sheridan writes her books so much heart and passion and she truly outdid herself with this one. The Wish Collector is beyond incredible, profound and a very thought provoking read. The plot concept is creative, captivating and flawlessly written.
Jonah and Clara’s story consumed my mind, heart and soul. Clara recently moved to New Orleans to pursue her career as a ballerina. She’s a talented, sweet and kind young woman and I adored her character. When Clara learns of a tragic love story that happened in the 1800s at Windisle Plantation, she’s immediately intrigued and visits the plantation to learn more about the story.
Jonah is a tortured young man who now lives in exile at Windisle Plantation which has been in his family for generations. My heart broke for Jonah as he lived with deep scars on the inside and outside due to a tragedy he suffered from years ago that he blames himself for. He can’t move on from that and therefore he chooses to live as a recluse. He and Clara develop a friendship which slowly evolves into a incredibly beautiful relationship. Their journey was not an easy one as the angst level was high with sometimes painful and heartbreaking moments. Jonah and Clara’s slow-burn romance was tender, meaningful and touched me so deeply. Jonah needed redemption and someone that would love him unconditionally. And Clara was the perfect woman for him with her tenacious spirit and loving heart.
The Wish Collector has so many compelling and magical moments. Everything about this book is beautiful and amazing. This entire book restores your faith in humanity and love. The Wish Collector is without a doubt one of the BEST books I’ve read this year. I highly recommend reading this unforgettable story.
