History has all but forgotten…
In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown.

But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth—the ultimate betrayal—that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her…

Great mixture of current and historical romance. Loved it!
As with everything written by Susanna Kearsley, I loved this book from page 1. The characters are wonderful and the storyline full of twists and turns, an emotional roller coaster. I also love the way the two stories dovetail.
It was pretty good but can’t compare to Diana Gaboldon
It wasn’t what I’d call a literary achievement, but I really enjoyed the historical aspects of this story. The romance didn’t hurt either.. It’s not the type of book I usually read, but it wasn’t bad.
I enjoyed this book so much. The author did a wonderful job of presenting a beautiful story. I didn’t want it to end.
It was informative as well as fun and a good read.
I thought I would like this book, because this area of Scotland is so romantic. But, the book dragged. It was hard to keep up with what was happening in the sections set in the 1700s. It just wasn’t that interesting after awhile.
Loved this factual historical novel.
One of the greatest I’ve read.
Excellent read, hard to put down.
Loved the history in it, the characters, and the unexpected happenings
Great book. Looking forward to reading more of her titles.
Really enjoyed and hard to put down
Learned about an era in Scottish history that I knew nothing about. Learned about inherited memory which I also knew nothing about. The book was well written and I never minded skipping from the present to the past.
I love this book so much that I return to it every two years or so, and will probably continue to do so. I have read everything that I can find from this author. The way she weaves present with past and manages to tell two stories in one book is very clever. I also like how there is a thread that connects her books to one another. You get to …
I really liked this book. Being a huge fan of Diana Gabaldon, I love historical fiction, and this was an interesting story line with parallel plots. Very well done. I’m looking forward to reading more of Susanna Kearsley’s books.
I love a well written historical fiction novel, and really enjoyed this one !! I didn’t want it to end!
All of Susanna Kearsley’s stories sit with you after you have read them. Intriguing, haunting, and wonderfully written. A must read for sure. Once you have read one, you must read them all.
One of the best books i’ve read lately.
One of my favorites by Susanna Kearsley. Very captivating.
