History has all but forgotten…
In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown.
Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next bestselling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write.
But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth—the ultimate betrayal—that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her…

The author’s choice of words put you into the scenes and you could easily be a part of the story. I love all of her books.
Susanne Kearsley’s best!
Beautifully written time-travel romance with a wonderful twist at the end.
Enchanting….
Fabulous book by fabulous author.
This book started my love affair with Susanna Kearsley’s books. Wonderful!
A bit of history, mystery and romance makes this one a real winner. A writer takes a journey to do some research on a book she is penning and is drawn into a twisted tale of deja-vu. I happily shared her path to a very happy conclusion.
This was the book that caused me to fall in love with all of Susanna’s books. She has amazing talent. I love the way that she can twist the past and the present together in such a way that the story flows together and doesnt make you feel lost or confused. This book is also the book that made me learn about Scottish history and the battle of …
I loved this book. I enjoyed the mix of history and modern.
Amazingly well done! I couldnt put it down.
Didn’t want it to end
Charming characters, beautiful descriptions. Love this book!!
Very good read !
This unique tale follows a Historical Romance novelist, who travels from country to country researching her latest work in progress. Layers of this heart warming tale weaves present and past, as we watch the young novelist goes through her processes, how she connects with her characters, or how they speak to her. Eerie similarities arise between …
I love all her books, but this one is my favorite. It’s about a writer!
I love Historical Fiction but hadn’t read much about the struggle of the ousted Stewarts to regain the throne. Very interesting and informative with some romance thrown in for entertainment. Excellent research by the author. Highly recommended for historical fiction lovers.
I read the whole story, which is why I gave it 3 stars. I may have expected too much from the description, but there were no revelations or surprises making the story a bit flat, but it did hold my interest enough.
An historical romantic book wound in the past and present.
One of my favorite romances of all time. A hauntingly beautiful story that skips back and forth between early 18th century Scotland and modern day Scotland. If you liked Outlander, you won’t be able to put this one down.
Not a memorable read, just okay.
