This wasn’t the kind of excitement she signed up for.

He knows one thing for sure—the corrupted Vampire Queen isn’t done with him yet.

Another excellent book in the series that draws humans into the supernatural world and they have to find the strength to survive or perish. I thought our new FMC was weak at first compared to Violent from the first book but she was just strong in different ways and became the perfect life mate for Julian. I really enjoy this world Hennessy has built and it gets stronger with each book and character. Her character development is excellent and the writing is tight and engaging.
This is the second book in the Blood Legacy Series. This story focuses on a different set of characters, you need to read the first book to understand the story. It was an adventure, it took a little longer to adjust to Julian and Olivia’s story for this one. But it was a great story, and great to see how they grew and changed from book one to end of this book.

Elise Hennessy’s „The Winter Key“, the second full-length story setting in the “Blood Legacies” world. The main character Olivia Cooper is a conflicted actress wishing for a new life, and as wishes go….she finds herself kidnapped by a group of vampires that insist she is the missing key to acquire their goals. The real struggle begins when she is rescued by Julian Fairfax, vampire, warrior and legit DHT. Julian, even as ecstatic as he is to finally have found her mate, is wary of the mean behind it, and of Lucia’s plan for him… with good reason.
While Julian is instantly likeable, Olivia is an acquired taste, extremely naïve at the beginning, she evolves naturally thought the story according through the circumstances. After the first couple of episodes the interaction between Julian and Olivia develops from mere chemistry to truly companionship.
It is a is a good written story, that while set in the Blood Legacies offers a brand-new plot and introduces new main characters to the action and continues to play with the new introduced shifter/vampire myth. A fast-paced book, with a good mix of action, world-building and romance, full of twist and unexpected situations and the occasional funny moments, that keeps the reader invested in the characters until the very end.
“You’ll be the one to lead us back to the light, just like you did for me.”
Olivia’s eagerness to acquire magic so she could fight alongside her lifemate had her stepping into a realm – and role – she hadn’t quite expected. While I instantly warmed to Violet in book one, I found Olivia took a little bit of time to win me over. Her naivety at this supernatural world she was thrust into made me wonder what kind of mate she could truly be to Julian, the bloodhound whose serious nature has made him a great fighter in their group’s war against the rival covens. What I found, instead, was that their opposing natures helped each of them truly embrace and conquer their budding powers in exactly the moment it was needed for survival.
I’ve loved delving into Hennessy’s fantasy world, with her fresh take on the various creatures of the shadows and her uncanny ability to have me glued to the page until it her story is through. I enjoyed The Winter Key even more than I did Dream Walker, as I found that the further twists in plot really had me guessing where our group would find itself – and who else we might stumble across. While, like book one, it concluded nicely for our main characters, I’m eager to see what comes next in their battle against the darkness.

Book two in the Blood Legacy Series jumps right into the action, no slow intro for this one. We start with Julien going to attack the Haven coven as they are holding his lifemate. We are introduced to a hybrid human/vampire who is his mates best friend who is also trying to find his lifemate so she can rescue her. Nothing is easy and in this storyline we get a more in depth look at a lot of the ancient characters and the mysteries they hold. Olivia is naïve when it comes to the paranormal world, while she knows it exists, she has no clue what evil it holds. Several challenges will test these two characters as they work on their mating and try to destroy the evil that threatens them all. Just like book one, I was immediately captivated by the storyline. Ms. Hennessy does an excellent job of drawing her reader into the world she created and keeping you on the edge of your seat. Secrets are reveled, lots of new information makes things more clear and allegiances are tested. I enjoyed this book immensely and am glad to see that there will be another to clear up the bomb that was dropped at the end. Not nice at all, but was definitely enough of a dangling carrot to make the reader look forward to more.
Winter Key is the best in the Blood Legacy series thus far! It is only book number two, but wow! It is a page-turner with action and surprises on each page. In the last book, Julian discovers his lifemate is out there and is in danger. He seeks to save her, but things are never what they seem. Lucia is as demented and self-absorbed as ever, and Violet has found her legs with her new abilities with the support of her lifemate Alex. Full on war begins between those aligning with Lucia, the remaining covens, and surviving Ancients. Enter the dhampire Charlotte and her human friend Olivia, and the story takes some fascinating turns.
The epilogue makes you scream. The next book in the series has to come quickly!

Olivia Cooper is a struggling actress who is kidnapped and drawn into New York’s supernatural world by a group of vampire fanatics. She is rescued by vampire warrior, Julian Fairfax. Julian knows, however, that the corrupted Vampire Queen is pulling him into another round of mind games. Lucia had awakened a cold darkness within him the last time, and even his lifemate Olivia may not be enough to help him control it enough to protect those he cares about.
This is a fast, engaging story that will draw the reader in to experience the tension and interaction of the characters. Grab your copy and enjoy the thrill!
The series just keeps getting better. We are back to the old tricks of pulling strings in hopes to get the most probably outcome. Lucia has Olivia kidnapped, just to let her go once Julian and Charlotte come to collect her. (So early on in the book that it is more of the setup than a spoiler). I did have to look up what a MacGuffin was (don’t worry, it gives context, I just love learning new tidbits and needed to know the history). I loved Olivia but you could almost feel the puppetmaster’s tug on threads and you just want to yell at them saying does anybody else see what she is doing! Which just adds to the spell of the book. I did enjoy this book more than the previous book and hopefully you will too!
Elise Hennessy does not disappoint in this third installment of the Blood Legacy Series. Why am I calling this book the third installment even though the title says book two? Well the prequel to the Blood Legacy Series is a full length novel as well. This series contains it all- vampires, Fae, evil, good, romance, action, etc. I could not put it down!
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so I will wave the review with saying, WOW, this is an amazing book!
Good continuation of the series. The story moves along nicely and the characters are well done and feel real.
