When an impoverished mother is invited to join a crooked lottery scheme, she refuses — at least until abruptly she finds herself a single-mom, framed for murder. Joining the scam so that she can support her baby girl, she becomes rich and tries to lead a normal life. But her past catches up with her….
I enjoyed the eclectic array of complex yet relatable characters in THE WINNER by David Baldacci. His antagonist is chilling—right down to the bone! Baldacci’s signature high-octane, page-turning plot twists kept me up all night. I highly recommend!
If you are offered a chance to win the lottery, and you are a poor, single mother, what would you do? There are conditions. Leave the country and not come back, ever.
It’s brilliant. Someone is chosen to buy the winning lottery ticket, the mastermind behind the plan uses the money for a year, then the winner get the money. Except the winners …
After being told to read The Winner for some time, I finally grabbed the copy off my bookshelf and must say, this was a true page turner! From LuAnn’s rocky start in life, to her sudden fortune and everything thereafter, I was cheering for her throughout the whole novel. With a strong nemesis in the mysterious Jackson, I enjoyed not knowing where …
Immensely enjoyed this book. Many characters very well created. The main bad guy was not like any bad guy I have ever encountered before. Kept me up reading just another chapter. I’ll read it again.
Really, really good
Really liked the twists in this book. Good characters and creative plot.
Yet another excellent bit of story telling by Baldacci, who never disappoints. Never read anything quite like this one. He takes a seemingly impossible plot line seem believable and kept me engrossed to the end.
This Baldacci thriller is a great story with a plot that is fit for the big screen and twists and turns that have you rooting for the “Winner”.
Not in his usual style.
NOT HIS BEST
Totally different story line! He’s a very versatile writer! I’ve read most all of his books and never been disappointed!!
David Baldacci will take you for quite a ride. This story is not your usual, run of the mill thrillers where the bad guy hides in a dark alley and chases the good guy. In fact, instead of a good guy, it’s a good girl with a backbone of steel, and a bad guy with a twisted mind. The plot twists and turns until the very last page.
Love it
It was a new and different plot; characters fairly well developed. However, the ending and wrap up feels rushed and not as well put together as the beginning.
I liked the characters and the plot was engaging. Haven’t we all thought about winning the lottery? Satisfying ending
An excellent change of pace for David Balducci.
Again another who has me as a reader for life.
This book was a A great, fast read in this time of anxiety
A great read! Well developed plot and interesting characters.
Not s good as earlier Baldaci books.
