Tabitha Girard had her heart broken years ago by Connor Ford. He was preppy and handsome. She was a pool girl at his country club. Their affair should have been a summer fling. But it meant everything to Tabitha.
There’s something about teenage love, that first love, that always stays with a person. Sometimes you find yourself thinking back, remembering those days…in this story, not only does Tabitha get the chance to rekindle that first love, but it shines almost as bright as the ring that gets placed on her finger.
There were times I wanted to shake this girl, tell her to see that this summer fling was just using her and yet, I kept turning the pages, even when I thought for sure I understood what was going to happen.
I was wrong.
The story starts with a diary entry that will stay with you, niggling at the back of your mind, skewing how you read this book. I loved it! These diary entries is what kept me reading, when I should have been sleeping.
You’re going to enjoy this one. Grab it, be prepared for the twists, the turns, the teases…because it’s going to be worth it.
This was another terrific suspenseful book by Michele Campbell! It’s full of twists and turns. It’s full of explosive and obsessive relationships. And everyone has secrets. Tabitha finds herself intimately involved with Connor years later after she first fell for him when she was a teenager. But now things will be different for them. Well, maybe. Now Connor is involved in a situation that Tabitha gets swept up into as she gets more involved with him. So who’s being honest? Who is keeping secrets?
Fun thriller to read. What really happened to Nina? That is the question you will ask yourself throughout the whole book. You will also be wondering who is bad and who is good. It was an interesting read to get to the bottom of what happened. I was feeling exactly like Tabitha during the book going back and forth on who to trust and who not too. This book keeps you guessing.
*I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion*
I really enjoyed all the twists and turns this story took. Told by a few different points of view…what you assume at the beginning, you assume in the middle and continue to assume until…well, you should probably read it. I read it in a sitting because I couldn’t wait to find out who done what and why. Did I have a few unanswered questions? Yes I did but those weren’t the heart and soul of the story. A suspenseful story with what some might think is an HEA…or not.
I have read and loved other books by this author and this one is right up there among the best.
There is nothing like first love. It’s a special time in a young person’s life when everything is perfect. Everything feels so good and you love with your whole heart. Innocence is yours and no one can take away the feelings you have. Young people take these feelings to heart and don’t believe they can live without that person they love so deeply. A broken heart seems to be worse when you are this young. Truly it’s just something new to a teen though.
Tabitha and Connor fell in love and seemed to have it all figured out. They were totally engrossed with each other and did not need anyone else. It was true love for them both and it was a raw, true, innocent feeling where nothing could interfere with them. Almost nothing. Connor’s grandmother was a force to be reckoned with. She thought she was above everyone. Way better than a lowly hired hand. Tabitha and her grandmother worked for the country club and that is where Tabitha/Tabby, met Connor. They fell hard for each other. Things were not as perfect as they thought. When Connor’s grandmother said to end it Connor did just that.
Many years later and Connor runs into Tabitha again. Is it true love once more or something way more sinister. Is he being honest with her or using her as a fall for his “wife’s” death. Connor married the ultra rich Nina. She’s way older than him and is richer than God. He keeps trying to prove to her that it’s the real thing but once he ran into Tabitha again he’s almost willing to give it all up for true love. Or is he?
There are several people in this story who could have a motive to kill Nina. Her late husbands business partner who has a thing for her. His ex wife who blames her for the demise of her marriage and for her and Connor breaking up. Nina can be a force. She can be a hard woman. But she had been hurt by her late husband also. He was much older and had many affairs during their marriage. She didn’t want to be hurt again and that made it hard for her to trust. Thus she truly believed Connor was going to kill her for her money. But would he do that? Was the money really worth that to him? Would Tabitha be capable of killing Nina to get Connor for herself?
This book starts out strong and stays that way until the very last word. You will turn the pages and wonder what is coming next. Who did what to whom and why. Did Nina really take her own life or had something much worse happened to her? Who can you trust? Who do you believe. Or can you truly believe anyone? There are a few suspects to look at: Connor, Tabitha, Juliet, Hank, Lauren or even Steven Kovacs. One of them may be guilty of murder and others may be hurt trying to find out.
There are many likable characters in this book. The scenes are so realistic and the tension is thick. I found myself holding my breath a few times. Wondering just who do I trust and saying run. Run fast. Get away. Don’t look back just run.
This is a great thriller and you are in for a true treat.
Thank you to #NetGalley #MicheleCampbell #StMartin’sPress for this ARC. This is my own review.
A big 5/5 and the highest recommendation.. You will love it.
The Wife Who Kness Too Much is the story of Nina Levitt, the widow of Edward Levitt, a very wealthy businessman and womanizer. Due to Edward’s infidelity, Nina is cautious about getting involved with another man. However, once she meets Connor Ford, she falls for him and they get married. But Nina learned from her marriage to Edward, and had put together a prenuptial agreement that leaves Connor with nothing if he is caught cheating on Nina. The story begins when Nina writes in her diary, before her annual July 4th party that she believes her husband is trying to murder her, along with “her”, an unidentified woman.
Enter Tabitha, a poor waitress who had a summer fling with Connor when they were teenagers. She has never stopped loving Connor. On Memorial Day weekend, Connor shows up at the restaurant where Tabitha works. He claims that he is miserable with Nina and has never stopped thinking about Tabitha. Their summer fling ended when his wealthy grandmother caught them together and made things difficult for Tabitha and her family.
Fast forward to when Nina IS found dead after her party, and suspicion falls upon Connor and Tabitha. Connor swears he is innocent, but Tabitha is not sure what to believe. There are many people who could have killed Nina, and Tabitha is not sure who to trust, including Connor.
This book has all the clues for you to figure out who is behind Nina’s murder, but it will still keep you guessing to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with the book to read in exchange for an honest opinion. I enjoyed this quick and well crafted thriller.

Tabitha Girard never expected to see Connor Ford again. Their relationship in high school was hidden. Connor was from an affluent family; whereas Tabitha lived with her grandparents, who had to make ends meet. They met while Tabitha was a server at the pool, where Connor and his family hung out. Tabitha chanced sneaking out of her grandparents’ home, to see Connor’s band, and soon after lead to an ongoing relationship. Connor lived with his wealthy grandmother, and being daring, Connor and Tabitha sneaked into the house. When Connor’s grandmother discovered the two, the relationship ended on a bad note.
Now years later, Connor walks back into Tabitha’s life married to a wealthy, well known older woman, Nina. Tabitha is a waitress, and has to take Connor’s order. Connor talks Tabitha into going with him to catch up, where they go to the home of a friend of Connor’s, and one thing leads to another. Connor pledges he wants to leave his wife, but wants to do so in a way that doesn’t void the pre-nup.
That one night spent together leads Tabitha with a dilemma, and days have gone by without one word from Connor. So Tabitha makes a choice that will bring more problems.
Following a big party, the next day, Nina is found dead, ruled a suicide. After Connor hears Tabitha’s news, he marries her and moves her into Windswept, Nina’s home. Everywhere, Tabitha turns, is Nina’s shadow.

When she gets a hold of Nina’s journal and reads a passage from the day before she died, Tabitha isn’t sure she knows Connor like she thought, maybe she never did.
This was an engrossing read! I enjoyed it.
I received an ARC from NetGalley via St. Martin’s Press and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
I was a huge fan of A Stranger on the Beach so I was SO excited to be approved for and ARC of The Wife Who Knew Too Much.
This one gripped me from the first page; I was immediately sucked into Nina’s diary entry. I was equally absorbed by Tabitha and Conner’s story, fascinated by the way their outrageous and shitty choices had domino effect after domino effect on other people.
Then the twists began things became really interesting!
Thank you to Michelle Campbell, St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could hardly put it down. It’s very well written and keeps you guessing throughout. If you’re looking for a good mystery, you won’t be disappointed.
~4.5 STARS~
The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell was addictive from the opening pages!!!
Let me begin by saying, I loved the way Campbell opened the book…in the first Mrs. Ford’s, Nina’s, voice. She gave me a hook to keep me reading while also giving me the background that sets the stage for the entire book.
Nina has just discovered her husband, Connor, is having an affair. She plans to confront him, but at the some point, her body is found in the family pool. Was it an accident, suicide, or something more sinister?
Connor is indeed having an affair with the other main character, Tabitha. They were involved as teens years earlier and have recently reconnected. He planned on leaving Nina, but he wanted to find a way to leave with at least some money, and his job at Nina’s company. Nina had a pretty ironclad prenup. With Nina’s death, he has everything he wants, including Tabitha. It isn’t long before she becomes the next Mrs. Ford.
Tabitha was expecting a new start with Connor, but she finds that Nina is still very much a part of their lives. Secrets and betrayals soon surface as Tabitha begins to wonder if Nina’s death was murder. And what, if any part, did Connor play in it?
The twists to the mystery just kept coming. I guessed one of them, but Campbell threw me for a loop with the second twist. I didn’t see that one coming!
Campbell’s characters were a huge part of why the book was so good. They were multi-layered and very complex. None of them were saints, but Tabitha was the one character I actually had some empathy for. I thought at times she had too little thought for herself and let her love for Connor blind her to his faults.
Connor didn’t have a great deal of redeeming qualities. He was selfish and self-centered, and let his love for money color how he looked at life. I felt like he didn’t really appreciate Tabitha or Nina. Despite his flaws, I believed he felt something for Tabitha that he didn’t feel for anyone else. But, did his flaws make him a murderer? That was a question I kept asking myself throughout the book.
Another great thing about the book was how Campbell made Nina a very important character despite her death in the beginning of the book. She, like all the other characters, was very complex.
Michele Campbell is a new writer to me. Her books had been on my list to read, and I am so glad I finally read one of her books. I’m looking forward to reading more from her.
*Spoilers*
I absolutely LOVED this book! Tabitha reconnects with her teenage “boyfriend” now that they are both grown. I felt like smacking her when she got pregnancy symptoms but was completely clueless, but she fixed that quickly and I love that it actually brought out that emotion in me. I love books that make me feel genuine emotions like I felt when I was reading this. I can honestly say this book kept me guessing until the end. I like that it has it all: frustration, romance, pregnancy and family, suspense, murder and a hidden killer. I can’t get over how good I found this book. off to find more books by her!
The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell is a totally gripping contemporary psychological crime thriller that will consume you from the start. The farther in you read, the faster your pulse will become.
Michele Campbell has constructed a marvellous plotline. She manipulated my emotions and responses along the way. I loyally followed her through red herrings and blind alleyways. My reaction to her characters was led by the author’s mighty pen.
Money and power are driving forces for some. As they rule and corrupt lives, there is only one way to go – downwards to crash and burn. In contrast there are pure hearts led by the love of others. Money and power mean nothing. Good hearts and pure lives are top of the list.
There is the question of trust. Neither the reader nor the lead character can work out who is trustworthy. Suspicion and deception are the order of the day. As the noose tightens, it becomes harder to see the path ahead.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much was an exciting read. I failed to predict the perpetrator or the outcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel as it consumed my every waking moment.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
It’s true this is a “girl meets long lost boyfriend” plot but it has plenty of interest. This is a romance with some definite mystery to it. Although romance is not my favorite genre, it completely kept my interest. It also doesn’t have a lot of sex. I sound old-fashioned I suppose but the act is not something I enjoy reading about.
It’s just a nice clean story some of which has a twist or a turn. Worth my reading time for sure.
Another great story by Michele Campbell! The story was fast paced with some twists to keep you guessing.
Published July 28, 2020.
This is a book I downloaded off of NetGalley. This book does not disappoint! Ms. Campbell will be added to my go-to author list.
Tabitha (Tabby) and Connor met when she was 17 and he was 18. They had a summertime romance. Connor moved away, but Tabby never forgot him. Fast forward several years when who should walk into the diner where Tabby was working? Connor. She didn’t believe it was him until she came face-to-face with him and took his order. Connor was married, but apparently not happily. Through an unfortunate circumstance, Tabby and Connor were able to finally become the couple they always thought they would. Through many twists and turns, Tabby began to unravel some long-lost secrets in the rich world she found herself now living in.
I cannot say more as there would be too many spoilers. Definitely a good read if you like twists and turns, a murder plot, forbidden romance, and seemingly minor characters having a bigger role than you might expect.
Buckle up because this one will take you on a wild ride! Full of twists and turns, THE WIFE WHO KNEW TOO MUCH by Michele Campbell ramps up and keeps you flying through it’s twists and turns, reminding me of the rollercoasters I love so much. Just when you think you know what’s happening, Campbell throws in a curve that has you re-thinking what you thought you knew.
A thriller that keeps you guessing, it is the perfect escape from every-day life. Make sure you set aside enough time, you will hate putting this one down.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Instant trouble when a woman reconnects with her teenage love many years later. She goes in way over her head.
Storyline is good, convoluted plot kept me turning the pages. But, the narrative and the dialogue leave something to be desired. Some of the dialogue is just too simple. Sometimes cringeworthy. I’m not sure how I feel about the ending….it was over the top.
Conclusion: readable, good for a beach read or an airplane read. It’s the type of book I would chose when I need something fast and entertaining.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for a review.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell is a bit hard to describe. In a way it is a second chance romance and in others is a mystery/suspense. When they were young, late teens, Tabitha and Connor fell in love. But Tabitha was from the wrong family to Connor’s rich and prestigious family. Separated by his Grandmother, they moved on. Since then, Tabitha’s life has been hard. Then one day Connor walks into her job and everything changes. Is this the break she has been looking for? Her happily ever-after? But is everything as it seems? When she finds Connor’s previous wife diary, everything changes yet again. Can she trust Connor? What is the truth?
Happy reading!
