Victoria Barnett has it all.
A great career. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems.
Then she’s in a terrible accident… and everything falls apart.
Now Victoria is unable to walk. She can’t feed or dress herself. She can’t even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with twenty-four-hour … with twenty-four-hour care.
Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoria’s husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isn’t as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. There’s a story Victoria desperately wants to tell… if only she could get out the words.
Then Sylvia discovers Victoria’s diary hidden away in a drawer.
And what’s inside is shocking.

Sylvia has been hired to be a companion for Victoria. It is a job she just can’t pass up. It comes with housing and a good deal of money. And well, Sylvia is broke! When Sylvia arrives and the estate, she realizes she is officially isolated and the place just has a creepy feel. But, she befriends Victoria and Sylvia settles in. But, it is not to last! Things start to change after she starts to read Victoria’s diary!
Well! Life in this household is not what anyone would expect. Victoria has a brain injury from a fall down the stairs. Her husband, Adam, has decided to take care of her at home instead of putting her in a nursing home. This just endears him to everyone, including Sylvia. Plus, Adam is hot and very nice. But as Sylvia starts to discover, nothing is as it seems!
This story started out fabulously but then it tended to get a little predictable, probably because this plot has been used in several novels before. But, the narrator, Angie Kane, did an such an excellent job with all the drama that she completely kept me pulled into the story. Plus..her interpretation of the voice of Victoria….fantastic! That was tough to master!

BOOK REVIEW
PUB DATE: Nov 23 2021 / 10 hours
Freida McFadden is an author I haven’t read before and I love discovering new-to-me authors that are this good. This book was a page-turner and I loved it! I’ll be reading more by the author.
The main characters in this book tell the same story so completely different, that I honestly didn’t know who to believe. One of them is an evil psycho and I it was so much fun trying to figure out which one!
Is it Adam? A bestselling author. He’s handsome and charismatic and still devoted to his invalid wife, who is a shell of her former self after a terrible fall down their stairs. He’s hired Sylvia to keep Victoria company, read to her and help with her feeding. He’s still doting and madly in love with his wife and doesn’t want to put her in a care facility.
Then Victoria gives Sylvia the journal that she’s hidden away. It describes her life with Adam before the accident. And the Adam that Victoria describes is a monster and nothing like the sweet Adam that Sylvia has come to know. Sure, there are a few things Sylvia doesn’t necessarily like about the way Adam does things, but that doesn’t make him a monster.

Really good!!! A lot of twists especially with the ending! I was thrown for a loop!
What a wild ride! This mystery suspense was off the chain and had characters that didn’t know whether to believe them or not. The author spins a chilling tale of people in love. Who’s telling the truth? Who’s lying? The story had me doubting everyone.
I thought the plot and writing were good and I highly recommend if you love suspense.
I chose to listen to this book on audio, the narrator was Angie Kane and she was great. This was 10 hours and 3 minutes long.

Freida’s bio says she lives with her family. I’m curious as to how any of them can sleep at night? I mean, her books are so gripping and twisted aren’t they worried she could snap?! I’m joking of course, kinda. I have to read them in one day because I can’t take the suspense. Seriously. Twisted.
The Wife Upstairs by Freida McFadden was truly a Psychological Thriller. Everytime I said I was going to put it down and finish later I just couldn’t. I went back and forth on who to believe, Victoria or Adam?! Needless to say the ending threw a bit of a twist. Great read for a lazy day!

I really love a good psychological thriller and mystery, this book had me flipping between “he did it” and “she did it” till the very end as the author leads us this way then does a quick turn to go a different direction. It’s an enjoyable read and a great way to spend a few hours at home with your feet up.

I love when you know you’re going to love a book from the very start. This is a great psychological thriller and it does just that! It starts out with a blast and keeps you riveted! The writing is good, the suspenseful atmosphere is there, and the story keeps churning out twists to the very end. My one disappointment is the ending, which fell short of wow.
This book did not go the way I was expecting at all. When I first started reading is seemed like a fictionalized version the the Staircase Murder but it turned out to he so much more. The book honestly has you thinking one way and then it does something to make you doubt yourself. A must read who done it.

I love a good thriller, one that keeps you guessing & when you think you its perfectly signed, sealed & delivered you’re thrown for a loop! Exactly what this story does.
The story is woven perfectly with the reader lulled into a false sense of knowing it all or thinking you do. I did change my mind a few times but the epilogue was the killer! Kudos!
Go in blind like it did so it doesn’t spoil the experience.
