I absolutely loved this book!! I couldn’t or rather wouldn’t stop reading until I finished to figure it out!! I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good weekend read!! Simply because once you start you won’t be able to stop. I’m not going into any specifics on this one because I don’t want to ruin it. My co-workers, avid readers or not, have all heard about this book as a must read!
I never do this, but I’m copying in the tagline for this one, because I don’t want to give away any spoilers:

This was a fascinating and twisted thriller, I’ll give you that. It flew under my radar for a while, enough that I wasn’t interested enough to ask for an ARC. Finally, I read enough GR reviews that I caved and grabbed a copy from the local library. Now I don’t know if I’m just cynical or jaded or what, but while I enjoyed this one, I didn’t find it to be the rave-worthy thriller that so many others did. Perhaps if I’d picked it up in the ARC stage, before reading so many reviews, it would have been a little different, but I think maybe I went in looking for all the twists.
The book is divided into a couple of parts (4 or 5) and I guessed the big twist of the first part flat out. It’s well-executed, but I saw it coming from a mile away. The rest were a little harder to guess, so kudos to the authors for those. I won’t lie–this one is quite the compulsively readable thriller, no matter what. I am, however, a little tired of unreliable, female alcoholic protagonists, by now–this trend was kicked off by The Girl on the Train, and I’m sort of over it.
I won’t go into much more, because I don’t want to reveal anything for those yet uninitiated. I’m still glad I picked up the book – it was a good diversion for a couple of evenings and a fun thriller. Not quite the most amazing book ever I was promised, but still a twisty read.

I couldn’t put this book down! The Wife Between Us is told from two different perspectives. We read about Nellie in the third person and then, intriguingly, we read Vanessa’s story in her own words. The two different perspectives provide completely unreliable narration which is exactly what you need for a psychological thriller. There is a big Gone Girl worthy plot twist about half way through the book. I was intrigued prior to the twist, but from that point, I couldn’t put it down. I really can’t say much more without giving away any spoilers, which I am desperate not to do. I will say this is not the kind of book with a surprise “whodunit” revealed at the end. Though, there are revelations at the end of the book that tie the loose ends of the story together. I loved that. Too often with psychological thrillers, there are too many loose ends. This is easy because of the psychological factor – was that part real, was it all a dream/ delusion, etc. But The Wife Between Us does a great job of revealing what happens to each character at the end of the story.
If you’re looking for a good thriller, pick up The Wife Between Us!

The Wife Between Us
OMG!!! Where do I begin?? I received this book as an arc and I am honored to give it rave reviews!! This book is hands down the Most Suspenseful, page turning , plot twisting, psychological thriller I have ever read!!! 5 stars is an understatement….When you read this book remember to assume nothing and read between the LIES…. Vanessa Thompson used to be married to wealthy Richard, now she is divorced and working at Saks trying to make ends meet. She becomes dependent on alcohol and pills to survive the days . Then the bomb drops when she finds out Richard is marrying another woman, a younger woman. Let the stalking and obsessing begin, but .. Vanessa starts going out of her mind until she realizes it may not all be in her head.. Can she convince anyone she is not crazy? This relationship is not what it seems and obsession becomes an understatement when one relationship intertwines with the next…This book will be available for sale on January 9th…
Have you ever read a book that you could not put down but didn’t really like? You keep reading and reading because there is a whisper of this story will get better. Up until the very end I can say the story did not get better but you will keep asking just what is going on here. Meet Nellie the poor wife who has been dumped for a much younger wife, who of course works for Nellie’s handsome and rich ex-husband. Nellie is falling into a rabbit hole of by appearances a drunken, drugged and disgruntled ex-wife. Add young Ellie to the story, who is young and carefree and now soon to marry Nellie’s ex-husband. These three main characters stories are told piece by piece adding characters as the story goes along. This is not a suspense or thriller it is a mixture of stories that you keep turning the pages because you can’t stop yourself.
LOVED THIS BOOK, VERY UNPREDICTABLE!
Great book… and very fast read!! Keeps you engaged page after page
This has to be one of the toughest reviews to write. I don’t want to spill out spoilers and I can’t think of how to put this review together without doing just that. I’ve read other reviews and comments on different blogs where people say that it doesn’t live up to its hype. I beg to differ, this book is a true masterpiece for any fan of the thriller genre.
I hope to read more by these two ladies, this will be a tough act to follow for them. What a debut, it’s one of those books that after you finish you go back and read what you have highlighted to make sure it really happened the way you thought it did. Because this reader would never be able to pull all these pieces together. I applaud these two writers, what a twisted imagination they have.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this e-galley in exchange to for my honest opinion which I expressed above.
Waste of time.
As I turned the final pages of this compelling read, I know that this one will linger for a long time, if not forever.
The perfect wife, the perfect husband, yes and they seem to have it all, perfection and lots of money. However, we soon see a very dark side of all of this, and wife number three will soon walk down the aisle.
The mind pictures are vivid, and now I see that this manuscript has been optioned for a movie, a must see, and I can see how awesome it will be, and now I can’t wait to see how it transforms to the screen.
It might take a bit to wrap your mind around all you are reading, but keep going, and wow to the ending, I never saw it all coming, and it keeps unwrapping right to the last page.
I really don’t want to give very much away here, you need to read this and do it at your own pace and explore with your mind and decisions, just don’t miss this one.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher St. Martin’s Press, and was not required to give a positive review.
Vanessa Thompson thought she had her happily ever after, her beloved husband however felt differently, and decided it was time to call it quits. Not only did he take away his love, he also took away their home, his money, and now she finds herself rooming with her aunt in a tiny apartment, and taking a job at Saks. Her life has taken an unexpected turn, one that has left her feeling battered, her heart bruised, and her mind permanently altered, she just can’t grasp the thought that it is all gone, and she is now alone. Then if things weren’t bad enough for her, she learns her ex-husband has already replaced her with a younger, newer model, and it damn near kills her. The idea of him moving on so quickly after all they shared is unsettling…and more than she can bare, so she decides to take matters into her own hands. And from there things take a very interesting turn…
The Wife Between Us is a spellbinding tale that will keep you completely entranced from start to finish! From the moment you crack the cover on this one you will be pulled into Vanessa’s troubled world, and taken on a literary journey filled with twists and turns that will leave you reeling. This is one of those reads that will play tricks with your mind, just when you think you know where your heading, the authors will throw you for another unexpected loop, and leave your jaw on the floor. I am new to both authors, and I am beyond impressed with this read, their thrilling story line left me dazzled! Highly recommend this one!
Favorite Quotes:
Nick had waited tables alongside Nellie for a year, until he moved to Seattle with his band. Slick Nick, they’d all called him, although a few heartbroken women in his wake had modified it to Nick the Prick. He was the hottest guy Nellie had ever dated— although “dated” wasn’t an accurate description of their encounters, since most took place in a bedroom.
Nellie’s favorite part of the day was show-and-tell, which was predictably unpredictable. Once Annie had brought in a miniature Frisbee she’d found in the medicine cabinet. Nellie had returned the diaphragm to Annie’s mother at pickup. “At least it wasn’t my vibrator,” the mother had joked, instantly endearing her to Nellie.
I was happy, I think, but I wonder now if my memory is playing tricks on me. If it is giving me the gift of an illusion. We all layer them over our remembrances; the filters through which we want to see our lives.
My Review:
The Wife Between Us was brilliantly crafted, ingeniously written, and diabolically clever. I was instantly sucked into the hypnotic vortex of the narrator and remained enthralled with my Kindle while taut with tension, intensely curious, and helplessly intrigued. These frighteningly talented authors lured me into several traps and forced me to see the main characters under a completely different lens multiple times. My opinions were constantly shifting and I was frequently conflicted and challenged. I couldn’t decide whether to pity, admire, or revile the main narrator, nor could I tell if she was depressed, crazy, a vulnerable fool, or fiendishly devious. It was perfection. I am in awe of the stellar wordcraft and have an intense yearning to reread and savor this stunning tale one more time.
Mind-blowing! From one crazy twist to the next, this psychological thriller is absolutely mind-blowing. I’ll admit that when I started this book, I wasn’t sure that I’d like it. From the first couple of chapters, I thought I had it all figured out and that it wasn’t going to be my cup of tea. I thought wrong – way wrong. There is no way to go into any kind of details about The Wife Between Us without spoilers, so I’ll just say that the blurb for this one is spot on – Assume nothing, because every time you think you know, you really don’t. I’m usually pretty good at puzzling out the conclusion for stories of this type, but this one kept me second-guessing myself over and over, from the very first breath-taking twist, right up to the jaw-dropping conclusion. At each whiplash inducing twist, I could look back and have a forehead smacking moment of seeing the clues, but they’re so cleverly done that you don’t see them until it’s too late.
If you don’t read another psychological thriller in 2018, read this one. This wonderfully written and fantastically compelling tale sets the bar quite high for other books in the genre.
This book wasn’t anything I thought it would be and it doesn’t stop. At first I was a little put off by the switching from past to present, from one character’s version to the other, but the author did it beautifully. There was no repeating of the story no unnecessary words just pure unadulterated twist. This author has more twist in the book than the law allows but that every reader craves. No sooner did you think you had the answer before the author changes it again. And don’t get comfy cos guess what?? There are more to come.
I love the character’s, I mean dang it how can you not. You would think with all the twist this author added it would be confusing but it isn’t. You would think you would loose track, but you don’t. As the author unravels the story all you can do is say, What the . . . . Hell
The summary CLEARLY says don’t assume anything. Even so, after about 3/4s of the way through I assumed I had it all figured out. I. Was. Wrong.
This is a really fun, exciting read. You flounder a bit in the beginning trying to figure out what is going on — and to whom as you jolt back and forth between points of time. Slowly the story starts to all tie together and it is quite a ride. Literally every word and phrase mentioned in the book is important and you eventually understand every detail. Some “thrillers” try too hard with too many twists, but this is just perfectly done. It really is brilliant. This will be the thriller that others will be compared to. Loved it!
…but seriously, assume nothing.
I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for a free ebook in exchange for a review.
What drew me in, was the excerpt of the book. It mentioned time and time again, to assume nothing, which intrigued me. The one assumption, that I was able to gather from the excerpt centered around marriage. The authors did an amazing job of blending their point of views into one story, where it’s as if the story is told by one voice.
There are three parts to this story, and each part is like a roller coaster ride, where you ascend and when you think, you’ve reached the top and are about to descend to some conclusion; the next part of the story has you ascending again! Including the final conclusion, that had me rethinking about everything from the beginning.
This was a phenomenal read! Those who enjoyed Girl On A Train, or Behind Closed Doors; I, highly, recommend The Wife Between Us. This is the type of book that will stay with you long after you have finished it.
