Anna Goodrich has decisions to make.
A young artist who now lives in New York City, Anna must return home to mid-coast Maine for her uncle’s funeral.
Can she face all that she left behind when she left seven years earlier?
The pain of her own mother’s death, the fractured relationships with her father, and her first love. The life she had built for herself in New York – the art world, her … she had built for herself in New York – the art world, her boyfriend – allowed her to forget the grief and hurt she had left behind in Maine.
But when her uncle leaves her a surprising inheritance, it forces her to face her past, and the parts of her self she’s buried.
As she searches for answers about herself, and where she belongs, she discovers how people and places shape us, and how understanding, forgiveness and grace have the power to transform us and the people we love.

another good book about family interaction, misunderstandings, the way people handle grief, and growing up.
i will admit there were times I wanted to smack Anna but it was interesting how her mind worked to make the choices she made. very enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed this book – the characters , the environment where it takes place – – it was thought provoking – wish it had gone on for awhile……………….
Would have given 5 stars without the cussing and the wine !
This book was just a nice read. Dealt with grieving and how our lives take
some turns and curves to find our way.
It is a fun tale but you knew the ending from page one and the facts don’t add up ie: Lilac doesn’t bloom while daffodils are in bud, when the work boats are on their moorings and the watermen ashore the dingy’s are at the dock.
The book was a little lame, repetitive and predictable. Would not recommend.
Predictable, seemed unrealistic success the characters got at 28 years old, I.e. a doctorate and professor
Couldn’t put it down
Just a lovely book to inhabit. The locations and the story of an artists and her mentor mother… and love lost and found… And in Maine.. a wonderful location for ones mind to visit, especially if you have been there in person, already. A good read.
Enjoyed the book and the thoughts behind the plot, but it moved a little slow.
All’s well that ends well !
Enjoyed the main character’s predicament & the unusual way it was solved.
Absolutely lovely, poetic lyrical story of family, love and nature. One of my favorites!
Exceptional
This was a great book! I didn’t want it to end!
drew me right into the dilemmas of the heroine: a heart divided that sought her true self and true desires. Reminded me of the ” as you wish” response in Princess Bride, without the extra silliness.
The book tries to hard. It isvery predictable. The main conflict is wispy washy and overused
It is ok.. but mostly predictable. Its enjoyable to read descriptions of the sea and weather, surroundings.
Loved the story and the challenges experienced in repairing relationships.
About time I found a book with realistic characters with a happy ending! I see enough tragic endings on the news everyday, so this book was refreshing.
