Anna Goodrich has decisions to make.
A young artist who now lives in New York City, Anna must return home to mid-coast Maine for her uncle’s funeral.
Can she face all that she left behind when she left seven years earlier?
The pain of her own mother’s death, the fractured relationships with her father, and her first love. The life she had built for herself in New York – the art world, her … she had built for herself in New York – the art world, her boyfriend – allowed her to forget the grief and hurt she had left behind in Maine.
But when her uncle leaves her a surprising inheritance, it forces her to face her past, and the parts of her self she’s buried.
As she searches for answers about herself, and where she belongs, she discovers how people and places shape us, and how understanding, forgiveness and grace have the power to transform us and the people we love.

Boring. Couldn’t finish it.
Liked that story was set in Maine and the blue lobster.
The Wideness of the Sea is wonderful story about grief, love and family. It takes place in mid-coast Maine and you can feel the beauty of the Damariscotta/Pemaquid coast it is so realistically described. I definitely recommend taking a trip to coastal Maine with this book.
Nice story about family. Some sad parts. Brings info about BRCA gene for those that don’t know what that is and want to research more. Enjoyable book, easy read. Art scene info is interesting and beautiful Maine descriptions.
Everything it was a great read really enjoyed it first think I did when I finished it was to look for more books by this author. .
Couldn’t find any sadly. .
Very well written book! Enjoyable!
Easy to read with few errors.
Excellent read. Great characters
A deeply moving story of survival and forgiveness with just enough mystery and romance.
Very predictable, feel good story.
Enjoyed the read.
Family ties, lost love and forgiveness are the primary themes in this romance. It was enjoyable overall, but the main character’s anger, confusion and indecisiveness got a bit old. I was expecting the story to play out a little differently, but it follows the tried and true formula for the genre. The final “crisis” for the family felt like it was added to prolong the story and did not add significantly.
Spending a large part of my life in Maine, I could really relate to the setting of this book. It was a very entertaining, easy read.
Somehow didn’t hang together very well. Also I found too many grammatical issues.
I loved the detailed descriptions, which conveyed the colors, textures, and feelings of both natural settings and the paintings .
I enjoyed the story-telling aspect and really related to the main characters. It also worked out exactly as I wanted it to. Sometimes they don’t…….
Katie Curtis in The Wideness of the Sea shows that it is hard to go back home when you have buried memories of deep hurt and loss. But, with acceptance of help from those who care and forgiveness and love, it is possible to begin again. Anna struggled but finally was successful and accepted the wideness of the sea.
Excellent book. A must read.
This book was a lovely change from the books I’ve been reading lately. The characters are highly relatable. It’s a beautifully written book, and I was sorry when it ended.
It is a good beach’read.
