I have enjoyed the last few books in this series and all I can say about this one is WOW.
What do we get when we have a fiesty, party animal female vampire and a broody, blood thirsty berserker?
A story that is epically sexy, action packed and full of hot, spicy, excitement. And the game these two play is taboo amoung their kind.
Liam has a lot to learn and Sasha is just the female to teach him.
It’s like a twisted tale of Beauty and The Beast I enjoyed it.
Vampire, Sasha Ivanov is desperately searching for excitement. The existence she has is not what she was hoping for when she was turned. There is an emptiness she can’t seem to fill, until she goes to an underground fight arena.
Berserker , Ewan Brun hates being virtually enslaved to the “King” of his clan. They fight all the time and live in poverty just to fund Gregor’s personal vengeance. Our hero has been using his expertise to raise enough money to win his freedom. That is a very dangerous game.
There are a lot of very bloody fights and very sexy scenes in this story. Our characters have to battle the severe distrust of natural enemies. Can they survive when they have Vampires, Berserkers and others all against them ??
Very exciting paranormal romance.
This is the sixth book in the series and can be read as a standalone, but to fully enjoy the experience that is the Last Vampire series, start from the beginning. This is wild child Sasha Ivanov and Ewan Brun’s story and it is my favorite in the series so far. It has a Romeo and Juliet feel because the forbidden love between two mortal enemies, the berserkers (killing warlords) and vampires.
Sasha has been on the party circuit in LA since becoming a vampire. She had been a dhampir and agreed to become a vampire under Saeed, a man that Sasha respected and loved. She had hoped that he would grow to love her in return, however, it was not meant to be, Saeed left Sasha to take over the coven while he went in search of his true mate. Sasha was heartbroken. Once Saeed returned, Sasha had enough of being the responsible one and began doing what she wanted with whom she wanted. This got old and the excitement soon became boredom until Sasha’s friend Ani found a new adrenaline fix for Sasha. The underground fight club known as the Supernatural Thunderdome, fight to the death. Sasha was looking for something to shake her out of her comfort zone. She had no idea what she was in for!
Ewan Brun was a feared berserker warlord and he was currently undefeated in the underground fight circuit. He didn’t need weapons to defeat his opponent, he was the weapon. He was fighting to not only blow off steam but to stash money, so he could get out from under the thumb of the head of the berserkers, Ian Gregor, the most powerful and crazy of all. He was tired of living in poverty as Gregor took all the money for his cause and provided the men with a place to live and food. If you wanted to call it that. They have been fighting for centuries to eradicate the world of vampires, as the vampires had ordered that the females of the berserkers be destroyed, thus they had no mates. Ewan has long since lost interest in Gregor’s vendetta.
Sasha entered the Thunderdome and she immediately drew attention. She was sure she was the only vampire there and enjoyed the attention. The next match was about to start, and she watched as a formidable fae entered the cage to a round of cheers. Then the crowd went silent as the opponent entered the cage and Sasha’s throat went dry and burned with thirst. She starred from the toe to head and met the cold stare of a huge, beautiful man with auburn hair and golden eyes that turned dark when connecting with Sasha. Then a force hit Sasha so hard it took her breath. She gasped for breath as her soul was returned to her. This phenomenon only happened when you are tethered to your mate. How could this happen? They were enemies but there was no mistaking what just happened. She was tethered to a berserker!
Ewan was taking on yet another opponent that he had to make look like he had to work at defeating, to allow for more bets to be made to bring in more money. Ewan entered the Thunderdome and a female voice caught his attention and then he saw her. His gut knotted, and a thrill pasted through him. Ewan’s opponent took advantage of his distraction and went after him. Ewan shook out the cobwebs and put the female out of his mind to concentrate on his opponent. To hell with dragging this fight out. He had to get to the female! So, he turned to battle mode and defeated his opponent.
Thus, began the story of Sasha and Ewan. I don’t want to get into any more of the story. There was a lot of wise crack comments and banter, some disagreements, some very intense feelings and hot sex! Some epic battles with demons and intrigue as the story continues to unfold. I absolutely loved Ewan! He was an intense alpha and he didn’t understand all the feelings that he was feeling. He was evolving as he was falling in love with Sasha and Sasha just wanted to love someone and be loved. There were misunderstandings and missed opportunities. Their journey was not an easy one, but was oh so enjoyable from the reader standpoint!
If you like a wildly wonderful paranormal romance, then give this book a try, I highly recommend it!
The storyline and plot were new to me and I was focused towards continuing.and excited to like the book. Well written mostly tight a bit repetitive towards the end.. World build up included 3 major players and more minor players. The game was vengence, staying alive and alert, kill or be killed. Vampires, berserkers, werewolves, the old regiment and factions for themselves wanted and needed power for safety, money and self appointment. And they could play, very nastily. But being immortal, characters can take harm and heal. A violent atmosphere. Ambivalent romance between a Berserker and a Vampire that the majority claim traitorous. My main dislike is the amount of pages with descriptive sex again and again. This really made it hard for me to enjoy because these pages that may have been interesting to read one time became monotonous and disrupted the story and took up too much storyline that could have been used to keep me immersed. This was frustrating as implications and progressive info was mixed in and I didn’t want to miss those. I actually groaned at the end one. Some missed she for he and such.
THE WICKED VAMPIRE is the sixth instalment in Kate Baxter’s contemporary, adult LAST TRUE VAMPIRE erotic, paranormal romance series. This is vampire Sasha Ivanov, and berserker Ewan Brun’s story line. THE WICKED VAMPIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout the series.
SOME BACKGROUND: Six hundred years earlier the Sortiari and the Beserkers had all but wiped out the vampire race from existence as retribution for the vampires killing most of the Beserkers female population. The Beserkers became the mindless killers, enslaved by the Sortiari, and are now seeking retribution for sins of the past.
Told from several third person perspectives including Sasha and Ewan THE WICKED VAMPIRE follows the building but forbidden relationship between newly turned vampire Sasha Ivanov, and berserker/underground fighter Ewan Brun. For hundreds of years the berserkers have been at war with the vampires-mortal enemies who have all but wiped one another off the face of the earth-only to come face to face with the unlikeliest of matings between a vampire and a berserker.
Sasha Ivanov knows that Ewan Brun is her mate when the male ‘tethered’ our heroine, returning her soul but the berserker species has been without females for hundreds of years, and the likelihood of Ewan recognizing his mate is a very low probability. As the relationship between our couple begins to build, threats against our heroine find Ewan willing to give up his life to save the woman with whom he is falling in love.
THE WICKED VAMPIRE follows several paths including the ongoing struggle of the berserker warlord Ian Gregor and his need for retribution and revenge, and his imprisonment of Rin, the mage. The Demon nation intends to control the berserker population by destroying our hero, one slice at a time.
The relationship between Ewan and Sasha is fated by DNA and blood but Ewan is unaware of the reasons why he is sexually and emotionally attracted to our story line heroine. Alpha and over-protective Ewan intends to keeps Sasha away from other males or outside threats to their growing relationship. The $ex scenes are numerous, erotic and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Sasha’s cover leader Saeed Almasi and his mate Cerys Bain; fellow vampires Diego and Bria; werewolf Lucas; Ewan’s cousin Drew self-proclaimed kind of the berserker clan Ian Gregor, as well as his cousin and second in command Gavin.
THE WICKED VAMPIRE is a fast paced, spirited story line; an imaginative tale about mortal enemies pushed together by fate and love; about the tragedy of betrayal and hundreds of years of retribution and revenge. The premise is energetic; the romance is emotional; the characters are passionate and hurting.
This is the first book I’ve read but the sixth book in this series. I had no problem following along with the story, but I truly wished I had started with the first book. There were things mentioned in this book that I missed from not reading the previous books in the series. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline and the flow of the story a lot. There was never a dull moment in this story between the characters. The action started from the very beginning and lasted until the very last page. It left me wanting the next book in this series because there will definitely be more; there’s still a lot of unresolved issues and problems between the characters within this story. I loved every moment between Sasha (a vampire) and Ewan (a berserker). Their sexual chemistry was off the charts and they had no problem with their sexual desires for each other. I will say that this was one hot read! As forbidden as their love was, they were so right for each other, they just had to realize that in their own time. I enjoyed this book a lot, and I plan on going back and staring this series from the very beginning because it was a great paranormal read. I want to know what happened in the previous books between some of the characters in this book, because this story and this series has a lot more going on than the characters just finding their mates. I recommend everyone giving this series a try but I would also recommend starting this series from the beginning.
The Wicked Vampire by Kate Baxter
Last True Vampire #6
Having read books 4 and now 6 of this series my gut feeling is that to truly enjoy the series it would be better to begin with book one and read consecutively. I did enjoy this book and followed the storyline of Sasha the vampire and Ewan the berserker BUT there were many names and couples dropped that I had little or no idea of or how they played into the storyline.
What I liked:
* The bond between the two was unexpected and something they had no control over
* Both H/h were strong characters
* The eventual confrontation between Saeed and Sasha – semi-confrontation
* The ties that some of the characters had with one another
* Ewan’s regard for his cousin Drew
* The growth in the relationship between Sasha & Ewan
What I didn’t like:
* The domineering attitude of Ewan at first
* Fights to the death idea
* Sasha being so “weak” in some ways
* Not knowing who all the players were and how the side-story-threads were to be woven together or who the people actually were
* The demons
* Ian Gregor – top dog Berserker (hope he has a reason to be such a scumbag)
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
The latest book in the Last True Vampire series is a fantastic addition to the series. Ewan and Sasha are vibrant characters that has some wickedly absorbing chemistry that is full of energy that reaches out and grabs reader’s attention and their relationship is full of turbulence and hot, steamy passion. Stories where enemies becomes lovers are always interesting to say the least but The Wicked Vampire takes it to the next level with violent pasts, alpha leaders and a couple that keeps reader guessing throughout.
This fast paced story is full of twists and turns along with lots of exciting action that that gives readers quite the adrenaline rush including delicious shivers of anticipation which keep them glued to the pages awaiting the next excitement that this couple seems to find themselves embroiled in. Not only is the berserker alpha up to his full itinerary of schemes that is mysterious and complex but this couple find themselves on the wrong side of some nasty demons that want things their way.
Kate Baxter’s Last True Vampire series is well written, unique and full of fabulous characters that readers can’t help but fall for and find themselves caught up in their lives. The Wicked Vampire is no exception as I was completely captivated by Ewan and Sasha and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this exciting world.
