Bound by duty and honor to wear the Union blue, a Southern-born West Point officer fights his own desires and the need to protect the woman he abandoned, he disobeys his orders to find her, as the Army of the Potomac marches toward her family’s home near Richmond.
She has the guts and willpower to protect her home from the hated Yankee aggressors, but when that traitor to the South appears at her … at her door, she’s torn between wanting to shoot him and to be held in his arms again. Can she forgive him for their past indiscretion or does she turn him in to be executed, a traitor to both sides?
In the summer of 1862, her family’s plantation becomes the personal battle ground between them as deceit, betrayal and passion ignite the flames of love and hate that burn brighter than the roar of the guns and rivers of blood surrounding them.

I enjoyed all the history brought to life as I drove the East Coast from South Carolina to New York. I felt I could see the travels the characters actually took. I appreciated the past in so many new ways.
The author takes you back in time to relive history of the civil war. Wrapped in romance the characters live the life of true civil war soldiers who were torn with were their loyalty should lay. Plenty of emotions, romance and action to keep you turning the pages. The author also includes enough details to make you feel like you are right there in the room with the characters.
The characters were good, and the story was good; but there was a lot of civil war battle history. I was more interested in the love story. I would like to read the next book. This one ended too abruptly.
This story grabbed me from the first page and I was saddened that it ended so abruptly!! It was riveting! The characters were so real, the setting so descriptive, and the backdrop of the Civil War was so truly depictive, that I hated when it was over. One of the best reads in a long time-I loved it!!!
Excellent romance. This one is full of twists and turns that keep you turning pages. Lots of action. Even more interesting are the stories behind the action. Highly recommend this book.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was like reading a good ‘Movie’!
I enjoyed this book. It was heartrending as it told the story of the Civil War and all its violence and how it changed our country and tore families apart. It also showed the sad consequences of slavery and its practices in the South. It was a love story of two people who overcame so many struggles and hardships to finally find each other. I recommend this book but parts of it are painful to read. The author did her research well in depicting the Civil War.
I loved this book! The history plus and events plus a love story was wonderful. It was written so well I felt I was right there in it. Thank you Gina Danna for the short time I was able to escape reality.
Enjoyed the characters in this book.
It was a good portrayal of stories from the Civil War. We all have a different way of perceiving what happens during an event, and the author brought me right into what was happening in the lives of his characters
Enjoyrd this book but it left too much unfinished.
If you like historical romance this is a good one. Enjoyed the twists & turns of the book. Good read.
I truly enjoyed reading this Book. The Story, Scenes & Characters were written extremely well. I really had a hard time putting the Book down. The Story is intense & thrilling.
Emma & Jack’s Journey throughly had me totally enthralled. Their Journey is not easy to say the least.
Caroline is a Spoiled & Self-centered Lady who will do anything at get what she wants & to say anything is putting it lightly.
Jack a Man who doesn’t wish to marry because he doesn’t want to leave a wife while he is in away at war. He is so drawn to Emma & ends up marrying Caroline, Emma’s sister.
Will Jack & Emma be able to get together after everything they go through during the War?
It started off somewhat cliche but then there were some twists and turns and then a brick wall I simply couldn’t overcome. Hopefully someone else will give it a better chance than I did.
Worth reading.
Overall I really loved this series. I bought the first book when it was on sale and subsequently bought the next two in the series. Great character development and the amount of detail regarding the civil war was impressive. At times I felt the description of the war tended to drag on and I could have easily skipped over those sections however I powered through. I do think it helped add an richness to the book that may have made it a bit more forgettable without.
The storyline and characters were good and I enjoyed that part. What I didn’t enjoy were the history lessons. There was A LOT of real history woven into the story. It was just too much and all was not needed. I often lost the story trying to keep up and understand the real history. Near the end, I just started skipping the history lessons when they started, I didn’t lose a thing and I enjoyed it more.
It brought on a lot of emotions… sad love. Adventure. Sorrow. It’s been awhile since I read it but I did like it
