Since losing her parents as a child, Jess has long been the ward of her uncle, an elderly, sometimes cranky old Lord. She’s grown up with her governess, who is now an old woman herself, but serves as Jess’ companion and friend. Jess doesn’t get out much and is basically surrounded by elderly people and servants. But her guardian has a plan. He’s going to marry her off.
Jon, is a ship’s captain, but also the heir to a lord. He has been at sea for years, and prefers it there. He has come to the village of Blackhaven to see his father, as they have been estranged, to determine if the old man is in ill health. It’s there he meets the lovely Jess.
The two become involved in a series of incidents and mishaps, with a few of the residents of Blackhaven making appearances, as they fall for each other. It’s an entertaining story, with intrigue, twists, humor and romance. It’s part of a wonderful series, but can be read as a stand-alone, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The next book in the Blackhaven series. I love these books. This whole series has been such fun to read. Mary Lancaster just pulls you in and you can’t wait for the next one! This one has Jess who is so feisty, I just loved her! Jon, Captain of the Albatross is a rebel in his own right and definitely swoon worthy! Both are thrown into a situation and the answer is a fake betrothal and a plan. You know what they say about well laid plans, something always goes wrong. There is so much to this story and another great story in Blackhaven. Definitely recommend this one or any of the series.
Another exciting additon to the Blackhaven Brides series which has kept me captive from the first! I look forward to each one and really anything written by Mary Lancaster. She always pulls me right into her stories and doesn’t let go until the journey ends.
Having traveled to Blackhaven with her guardian, Lord Viscral, who wants to take the waters for his health, Jess has her first adventure of a sorts. Lord Viscral has a plan to marry her to his wayard son and heir, but she was determined to be independent and not forced to marry anyone. When she manages to be on her own in the hotel they are staying at, she wanders into a gaming room and immediately knows she is in the wrong place.
Luckily a handsome young man saves her and begins to escort her out. But they have an intriguing conversation and with a glass of champagne, it seems Jess’s thoughts come out about everything.
Jon has come to Blackhaven to just make sure his father is doing well, but really had not intended to contact him. Little does Jess know, the man she met was the son that Lord Viscral wanted her to marry!
Pure delight as their journey begins and everything needed to make this one of my favorites of this series! Prepare to be captured from the first page and Jess and Jon try to find their happy ever after!
Miss Jessica Fordyce, her guardian Uncle Lord Viscral and her aging governess Miss Crabtree, were staying at the Blackhaven Hotel. This was the first time in twelve years that she has been away from Viscral Hall, so that her uncle could take the healing waters. Wandering around the hotel, she discovers a large group of people gambling in a big room and wanders in. She wanted to see what was going on and perhaps sit and watch the people. She felt rather proud of the fact that she was wearing the first new evening dress in ages. Then she was offered champagne and realized that it was the first time it was offered to her. So, she took it and surveyed the room. She was asked to gamble and when she told them she had no money; they told her she could sign an IOU. Luckily a certain gentleman took an interest and guided her away from the problem. Captain Barnaby, a merchant vessel captain, made sure that she would not get into too much trouble. Just who was this man, and where had he come from. Mary Lancaster has given us another wonderful Blackhaven adventure to enjoy and old acquaintances to help the story along. This is a real page turner.
