Such a fun read!
I love the Blackhaven Brides Series & Book 6 is the best one so far – especially with the addition of lovable Tiny, the Wolfhound & all the wonderful children! Carolyn Grey, the governess & Javan Benedict, her hero were such a fun couple that had so many hurdles to climb to get to their HEA. I love the way Mary Lancaster pulls the reader in to the story with her writing style & how she introduces us to the new character & brings past character back in to the story. This has all & then some of the things you want in a historical romance – a haunted hall, a troubled ex-war hero, a young daughter that has lost ability to speak, love, family, humor, romance. I highly recommend this series & especially this book.
This sweet Regency romance had everything a governess story should have: A loner boss, a vulnerable child, and a blackguard who is bested by the good people who populate this story.
Love this series!
Governess Caroline Grey needs her wages to help support her family so she is devastated when her job is threatened. The mysterious and damaged family she goes to work for need her so much. Can she help them claim the lives they should live??
Mr Javan Benedict is over protective of his damaged family, but he has his reasons. He is a loving father who terrifies everyone except his family.
This is a story that will take you through all the emotional upheaval with our characters. It has also got plenty of humour, a little danger and a heroine who is a lot stronger than she thought she was.
A lovely romance that is hard to put down. I loved it.
The sixth in a terrific series of books about a small seaside village called Blackhaven, a governess named Caroline is sent to a new employer, because of an incident with her former employer. Her new boss,Mr. Javan Benedict, is dark and enigmatic and has a young daughter who is mute. There are secrets in this household, some caused by past tragedy, and Caroline wants to know of the past but is reticent about its discovery. What disturbs Caroline is her attraction to this stiff, scarred gentleman who’s dry wit pulls her to him.
The story has intrigue, longing, and a wonderful group of characters that made it entertaining. I sincerely hope this is not the last in this series as I look forward to more from the town of Blackwater and its inhabitants.
I read this as an arc which affected my review in no way at all.
Caroline Grey has been dealt many unfortunate turns in life. Her position as Governess has soothed some of those hardships. But, suddenly she is dismissed and must seek employment elsewhere. The very dark and brooding Javan Benedict is searching for someone to teach his daughter. A deal is struck and Caroline has the position. She soon learns that Rosa has a problem that must be solved. This book is a romance, but it is also a mystery-with two of them at the same time! This is a very intriguing book that will keep you guessing until the end.
Caroline Grey is devastated when she is dismissed from her post as governess to the Earl of Braithwaite’s sisters. Finding temporary sanctuary at the eerie and neglected Haven Hall, she does not expect to enjoy the challenges presented by the house’s dark and forbidding tenant, Javan Benedict, or by her mute and needy pupil. I really enjoyed this this book. Caroline having been dismissed from her previous employer is left with no choice but to accept a position with Javan teaching his daughter. Thinking she would only be there temporarily she finds that things are not as they seem. I really enjoyed the story and Caroline and Javan’s characters! Both have to overcome their fears in order to love. I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely recommend reading it.
Be still my heart. This is a story of a scarred hero inside and out which is my favorite trope. I love to see them brought to the light and find their wonderful happy ending. Caroline Grey, a governess finds herself at Haven Hall with her pupil, Rosa, a mute for two years for an unknown reason. Her father, Javier Benedict is a widower who has become a recluse due to trying to cope with his injuries from the war. He is trying his best to shield his daughter from gossip of past deeds and getting her to talk. Caroline finds herself drawn to her young charge and finds that Javier is suffering from tragedy in the past and it seems that Haven Hall is haunted. As Caroline and Javier become friends, she tries her best not to lose her heart but she is drawn to this small family. What is not expected is the strange sounds and ghostly happenings. Are there really ghosts? There are several twist and turns that kept me holding my breath, but I had a smile as I turned the last page. Mary Lancaster has a gift for bringing the characters to life and engaging the reader in the story. Although part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone. By why would you want to do that? Read the full series and I guarantee you will be enchanted.
This is the sixth book in the Blackhaven Brides series. Caroline Grey finds herself removed from her position as governess to the Braithwaite sisters; Blamed for something she did not do. Earl Braithwaite brother to the girls finds her another position as governess to Javan Benedicts young daughter Rosa. Caroline has no choice but to go to Haven Hall and seek new employment as she sends money home to take care of her family especially her young nephew Peter. Well that’s when the fun starts, from a young charge who does not speak, to the girl’s father a man with many fears and doubts, a man with a scar on his face and a limp all received at the hands of the French as a prisoner of war.
Slowly love blooms between Javan and Caroline, as she helps him face his fears. The characters are wonderful as they interact with each other; of course we have to have our villain to shake everything up. I highly recommend the book it’s a page turner and the story is believable. Although this is a series all the books are stand alone, but I know you will want to get them all you will get hooked on the little seaport town of Blackhaven and it’s interesting residents. Thanks Mary Lancaster for another great read.
