This is the well-plotted story of what happens when two child killers with new identities meet many years later. We see their current lives and, through flashbacks, discover the events of the fateful day that lead to their convictions. Set in a UK seaside town that simmers with unsavoury characters. This is the best novel I’ve read on this theme.
The heartbreaking past is interspersed with the present, revealing a deepening tragedy. No part of the plot line is without purpose, and the richness of the characters makes the story unforgettable.
This book alternates between past and present, an overdone format in so many of today’s books. The present day story is much stronger and more developed, so the past information could have been handled better differently in my opinion rather than the alternating past and present chapters which disturbed the flow of the present day story. Interesting characters.
I whipped right through this one. I found it to be an eye-opener on many aspects of society. Very original book.
Boring
This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I enjoyed it so much I stood up until 2:00 am to finish it.
This is such a good book. If you love thrillers, it’s a must read.
I met the author several years ago at a luncheon after reading the book. She was very interesting.
I did not like it so I didn’t finish reading it.
“The Wicked Girls” was a little hard to read initially due to the jumping back and forth in time. But as I progressed in the book it became easier and turned out to be an effective tool to “tell the tale”.
I discontinued reading after about 30 pages. This one was not for me.
This was a daunting read, but held my interest. It wasn’t so much a matter of when, but how it would all end and who the survivors would be.
Unexpected. Great story with an unexpected twist.
Alex Marwood leaves you thinking and pondering who really is the victim? even though you read who the killer is. Ms. Marwood has a great novel here that has a twisted climax ending that you do not see coming.
This fast-paced page-turner is the story of two women who first met on one fateful day when they were both eleven. At the end of that day they were both charged with murder. Fast-forward twenty five years, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is sent to a seedy English seaside town to report on a series of gruesome murders of young women. There her investigations lead her to interview carnival cleaner, Amber Gordon. It’s the first time these two women have met since the darkest day of their lives twenty five years ago. When each woman realizes the implications of this meeting and the very different lives they’re leading, they’re both gripped with the fear of trying to keep their wicked secret hidden from those they now love, and all amidst a terrifying murder hunt that comes way too close for comfort.
The characters and setting were so well-drawn that I was immersed in the lives of these people and the way their lives intertwine both in the past and the present. The author controls the movement of the story in a way that compels you to keep reading and I have to say, the ending was one of the best I’ve read in a long time. A great book!
