So Dark. So Delicious.
So just a warning, if you bought the anthology containing this book you were just getting the tip of the ice berg. Holy cow this book is so dark! I cannot tell you how happy I am that I’ve found Ms. Cain’s work. She’s talented at creating dark, twisted stories that tie your own guts up in to knots. Her characters are absolutely unhinged but I love it!
To be honest when I bought this book I wasn’t wholly certain I would like it. Even darker romances for me are still well…romance. And I’ve read this one before. That was before I realized just how many cut scenes and “edited” for consumption the story was for the anthology. This is horror and poor Alice doesn’t get a happily ever after. Doesn’t matter. It is still. so. good.
This is a short dark & twisted take on Alice in Wonderland. Don’t expect any HEA…b/c its NOT that kind of story, but if you’re looking for crazy, scary & twisted…here it is! Alice is being tormented by beings who visit her like nightmares & no one else can see. ** All of your old favorite Wonderland characters are even MORE demented! 😮 ** What is real or just a figment of Alice’s mind??? Her parents & nanny don’t believe her accounts of what happens to her every night & end up sending her to a psych hospital, where Alice isn’t safe either from these horrifying beings… One thing is for sure tho…you won’t guess what is coming & it will keep you on the edge to the very end!
“the one who moves the pieces across the board.”
Amazing ending to a haunting story. Its incredible how this author can come up with such different enchanting dark stories. New and total original revision of Alice and those from Wonderland.
This is a fast-paced dark and twisted read based off of Alice and Wonderland. Poor Alice keeps having a visitor at night in her bedroom which no one else in the house hold sees. Making Alice guilty of the things that happen there. Can she get her parent to see the truth? If you love a dark read, this will be a very intriguing read for you. I found it to be a deliciously twisted take on this childhood tale. I liked it.
The characters you grew up with and love are not the fairytale variety in this tale. Addison Cain takes our beloved characters and twists them and pulls them out of Wonderland and into our worst nightmares.
I loved this book. Had me tearing through the pages to find out what happens next. I will never look at Wonderland the same way.
I’ve been really loving the swing towards a darker, less sugary novel and as always – AC has my back! In a gorgeous new story based on Alice in Wonderland, you really get inside the mind of a child (which, as an English major – is really hard to do well!) and take a ride down the rabbit hole once again. However, unlike a lot of the clique attempts at ‘Twisted Alice in Wonderland’, I really do feel like this adaption looks at the story from a genuinely new perspective, with more adult themes, without being the same shock-for-the-sake-of-shock trap that a lot of people fall into. For that reason alone I would definitely recommend it, but I do also think that it’s not a book for everyone – some very dark themes ahead. If that’s your cup of tea (pun intended) then welcome to your next favourite read!
This book is definitely not what I had in mind when I started reading it. I mean, I know it’s a different take on the Alice in Wonderland story, but I didn’t see this coming. The Hatter, though…here I think he is already a creepy character and Addison Cain just goes and upped the creepiness to the MAX! I would not recommend this book for those who truly love the original/Disney versions as this might give you nightmares. But if you like your fairy tales to be more twisted, then please do follow the white rabbit and see what dangers he brings forth to you.
So intense! Dark, twisted and totally unexpected! You are at the edge of your seat the entire time. It’s definitely not for everyone! I had some moments where I became uncomfortable but I kept an open mind. Addison Cain is such a phenomenal writer and if you like a little gore and horror in your reads I highly recommend!
Complete craziness. The description of this book doesn’t do it justice. Poor Alice, always going to be the picture of delusions.
“Desire is a strange kind of demon. It knows how to gnaw a soul into shapes for it’s pleasure, but it also must be fed.”
Dripping with darkness, chilling with it’s utter terror, this one had me transfixed and glued to the pages. I made the mistake of reading this before bed with the lights off, and it really chilled me to the bone. A wonderfully original take on Alice In Wonderland that messed with my mind, and the full circle the story was spun into at the end left my jaw dropped and me glancing under my bed for monsters!! I absolutely loved it!!

This was a short story, about a twisted and dark Alice in Wonderland. The difference here is that this isn’t your happy , cute and romantic story. This is dark, twisted and can freak you out! If you like stories such as that, definitely click and read!!
Addison Cain has done it again, gracing us with a deliciously dark and twisted take on Alice in Wonderland. Love that she never disappoints, with the suspensful plot keeping us captivated till the very end – must read!
Beware the rabbit
Bloody great tale –
A unique trip down the rabbit hole
I have always enjoyed the different versions of Alice in wonderland – Let’s be honest – even the “children’s” version is dark and twisted – Just imagine what happens when you twist it just a bit more
Don’t worry it’s a quick journey
The white queen is an amazing take/spin off of Alice in wonderland. I’m not going to lie to you this book was not really romantic and it was not full of hearts, it was scary, demented but ohh so good!!! Instead of Alice going to wonderland the people of wonderland come to her and haunt her nights in some very creepy ways!!!! I did read this book in one siting as I could not put it down and could not wait to read what was on the next page! It was not scary in the way that I could not go to sleep but it did have me questioning some of the sounds I heard in my house that night. This is a book that I would defiantly recommend, if you can’t tell Addison Cain has done it again!!!!!!!!!
The White Queen is a dark and twisted vision of the traditional Alice in Wonderland. Addison Cain is a woman who knows how to toe the line with darker plots. If you are wanting to test the black waters of darkness then I suggest The White Queen. It’s dark enough for those who are new to the genre, and those who enjoy the darkness this is just a delightful taste of Mrs. Cain’s work.
Have you ever heard the term “Don’t freak the f@%k out” ?? This does NOT apply here. Once you read the lovely (haha), bright, Gothic tale, you are gonna freak – just a little. Unless your high comes from being in the darkness. Truly Ms. Addison has one truly twisted sense of being for some of her characters but you will not be able to put it down. You’ve got to find out what happens no matter what. The punch in the gut though, is the ending. You feel sorry for this girl/woman but in the end she gets the last punch. If you read this one, please leave your lights on and check under your bed.
Alice is a wonder. She’s not the same girl as her namesake, the curious girl, Alice of the infamous tale. Alice is not curious. She does not seek adventure. She does not seek greatness. She seeks only peace, love, affection, and mostly, sleep. Tormented by creatures of the midnight hour, unseen and unheard by any others, she is driven to an incurable madness. The red lady, the tweedles, the chesire, the hatter, each pays Alice a visit in the night, each offering a different torment. Just when you think this story is dark enough, too dark to bear, it takes a horrific nosedive into a bottomless abyss of suffering.
This dark tale is one of Addison Cain’s finest yet. If you dark, gothic fiction, this quick read is for you. There is no hope. There is no peace. Just an existence falling somewhere in between “worst” and “worse”.
Dark, twisted and everything I love in a book. This book was everything I would have never expected and had me clinging for more the entire read. Not much to be said in a review that the blurb won’t give you. All I can say is that if you like dark and disturbing you have met your match in this book
Because, if you aren’t, you will be after reading Addison Cain’s “The White Queen.” Scarily based on “Alice in Wonderland,” reading this horror story will leave you sleeping with the lights on, fearful of what goes bump in the night, and you will love every page of it. As others, I’m sure, will point out, there is no (traditional) happily ever after. This is a horror story that spans years and the rabbit hole…well…do you really want to know what resides in the deep recesses of your mind, er, Alice’s?
This was so good! I mean, it kind of messes with your mind, but in a good way. It definitely does not qualify as a dark romance, so don’t go into it looking for rainbows, butterflies, and a traditional HEA. It’s worth reading though.
