Bad guys beware: There’s a soccer mom on your trail. Work-at-home-mom Sandra’s life is a whirlwind of activity. So, why’s she so bored? When a referee drops dead during her son’s soccer game, and a short man claiming to be an angel asks her to help investigate–suddenly, her life’s not such a routine. The angel (is he really an angel?) tells her to go undercover as a soccer referee, which, of … an angel?) tells her to go undercover as a soccer referee, which, of course, is ridiculous. She hasn’t run anywhere since high school.
But Sandra will find out she is still capable of far more than she thought–with a little help from above.

Wow! This is the first book by Robin that I’ve read, and it won’t be the last! I was hooked from the first chapter, and had to keep reading to find out what would happen next! It was funny, it was sad, it made me laugh out loud! There were a few things I didn’t see coming, and Nate made me want to hit him upside the head a couple of times! Sandra and Bob were a hoot at times, and Peter’s a great kid! I love mysteries, suspense, so this was great for me!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
Good clean, mystery!
While there was a dead body, I still consider this a Christian cozy and it was a nice change but it wasn’t over the top with the religion. No gore, sex, or rough language. The characters where believable and you could relate to them. I was kept guessing until the end! I would like to see where this series goes.
I received an ARC. This is my honest review.
Loved following the antics of Sandra, soccer mom turned private investigator, and Bob, the angel of the Lord. Sandra sees one of her son’s soccer refs die, right in front of her! She is the only one to hear his last words. Bob, the angel assigned to the district, wants to make up for the fact that one of his souls died on his watch! The two of them team up to help solve the crime. Super fun read. I highly recommend it!
Bored soccer mom makes a new friend after her son’s soccer game. There was a surprise at the end of the game. This mom didn’t know she was a little bored until this one event totally changes her life. She even finds a part time career she thinks she loves. It’s humorous while having serious things happen. I have the entire series ARC and looking to reading more.
I didn’t think I would like this book when I first started reading it, but it was a fun read. There was just the right amount of humor, the characters were likable and interesting, and it was well written. I would recommend this book.
The Whistle Blower by Robin Merrill is a cozy mystery about a housewife who gets involved in solving the murder of a soccer referee; and she does it with the help of a guardian angel – yes, that kind of Angel! I enjoy these types mysteries because there is an element of suspense, but not to the extent of being overly creepy. This one also had an angel involved in the story so that made it unique. Most cozy mysteries have an unexpected person doing the amateur sleuth and this one is no exception – an average, ordinary stay-at-home soccer mom. As a stay-at-home mom myself, it was fun to read what kind of trouble she got into and how she dealt with trying to do detective work while also dealing with kids in school and an infant. If you like mysteries and Christian stories, you will enjoy this one!
3.5 stars for this fun little cozy mystery. Sandra is bored with the day in/day out life of a mom and housewife, but gets more than she bargained for when she’s the last person her son’s soccer ref speaks to before he drops dead on the field. When she is later approached by an angel to help her figure out what happened to said ref on his watch, she enjoys some amateur sleuthing. As she gets close to the answers though, her own life is placed in danger. This book had a really fun premise and the story-line was rather enjoyable. While the characters lacked the depth I’m used to in my suspense novels, that is appropriate for a cozy mystery. And while Bob the angel seemed to be a bit of a bumbler, it did add some charm to the story. I enjoyed the side story about Sandra’s son, Peter, and the pre-teen drama he was experiencing. And it showed that even church can be a place where bullies roam free. All in all, this was a quick and fun read – great for a summer weekend. Special thanks to the author for an e-copy of this book. I was not obligated to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
