NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Jane Hawk—fiction’s most relentless, resourceful, stunning new heroine—continues her battle against a murderous conspiracy in the riveting sequel to The Silent Corner. “No time to delay. Do what you were born to do. Fame will be yours when you do this.” These are the words that ring in the mind of mild-mannered, beloved schoolteacher Cora Gundersun—just before she … beloved schoolteacher Cora Gundersun—just before she takes her own life, and many others’, in a shocking act of carnage. When the disturbing contents of her secret journal are discovered, it seems certain that she must have been insane. But Jane Hawk knows better.
In the wake of her husband’s inexplicable suicide—and the equally mysterious deaths of scores of other exemplary individuals—Jane picks up the trail of a secret cabal of powerful players who think themselves above the law and beyond punishment. But the ruthless people bent on hijacking America’s future for their own monstrous ends never banked on a highly trained FBI agent willing to go rogue—and become the nation’s most wanted fugitive—in order to derail their insidious plans to gain absolute power with a terrifying technological breakthrough.
Driven by love for her lost husband and by fear for the five-year-old son she has sent into hiding, Jane Hawk has become an unstoppable predator. Those she is hunting will have nowhere to run when her shadow falls across them.
Don’t miss any of Dean Koontz’s gripping Jane Hawk thrillers:
THE SILENT CORNER • THE WHISPERING ROOM • THE CROOKED STAIRCASE • THE FORBIDDEN DOOR • THE NIGHT WINDOW
Praise for The Whispering Room
“Koontz has never exactly shied away from complex characters or situations. And this situation gets very complex indeed, as Jane pursues the people behind the conspiracy with the kind of single-minded relentlessness that makes the book absolutely spellbinding. As good as The Silent Corner was, this one’s even better. . . . Koontz is on another roll with a new series that boasts a juicy premise and a compelling star. . . . Pure gold.”—Booklist (starred review)
“A deeply layered, satisfying thriller that is character-driven and nearly impossible to put down . . . grounded in many real-world, current issues . . . [The Whispering Room] never loses sight of the classic political/sci-fi/thriller elements that make it so much fun to read.”—Bookreporter

James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. His new series about Jane Hawk is absolutely engrossing, from the first page of the first book.
Jane Hawk is a great character – love this series!
Dean Koontz writes wildly unpredictable, twisted kind of stories that grab your attention……like roller coaster ride….and you have to keep reading until the end. Like the roller coaster, you are exhilarated when you reach the end of the “ride” and you want to jump right back on. LOVED the Jane Hawk series.
Enjoyed this book. It was a great conclusion to the previous 2 books.
Koontz is one of my favorites, but I’m not a fan of this series.
Really good stuff. Read the series.
Koontz and his finest. Left me waiting impatiently for the next book. I have been somewhat annoyed lately by the number of books that suck you into buying the next one but this series was worth it.
Wow!
Action-packed – fantastic series!
It’s Koontz! How can it not be great!!!! Read it!
I have never read a Dean Koontz that I did not Like!
This is the second book in the Jane Hawk series and I found it as delightful as the one that got me hooked. I’m hoping for a conclusion at the same time I am not. I really prefer this direct approach to storytelling that is being used by Mr. Koontz. The story heightens the senses and compelled me to read for long periods of time, losing myself in the pages.
Koontz turns out page after page and mostly they glow. But this series doesn’t go anywhere.
THIS WHOLE SERIES WAS GREAT
Re-read 5/14-5/18/19 and now off to read/re-read the rest of the series.
…freedom and civility were barriers to absolute power and to the adoration that the powerful could command of others.”
Book two in the Jane Hawk series takes off right where the first book THE SILENT CORNER left off. If you haven’t read book one, I would suggest reading it before starting this one. It’s a darn good book and you really need the continuity to appreciate this book to its fullest.
As discovered in book one, “they” are in power – the undefined powerful who have decided to play God by selecting innocent people they think might be dangerous to their grand plan of controlling the world. The innocents are injected with nanotechnology – to either be forced to kill themselves and maybe others, or to become mindless robots.
Jane was a valuable FBI agent, hunting down serial killers, before “they” made her beloved husband kill himself. So now their young son is hidden and she’s chasing people in charge of this terrible conspiracy.
Author Koontz is back in full strength in this series. I love the premise and the way he handles it (although his prose gets a bit flowery in spots). The characters, good and bad guys, are fully realized and imaginable. (I especially liked Grandpa Bernie.) There are triumphant moments and sad moments and I’m getting ready to read book three in the series now THE CROOKED STAIRCASE. I highly recommend this series, at least the two books I’ve read so far.
I received this book from Random House through the Amazon VINE program in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review but I also purchased a copy for my personal library.
First of the Jane Hawke novels, an FBI profiler who goes after a secret organization after her child is threatened. Lot of death, “justified” murder, tragedy
A masterpiece of emotions and words Dean Koontz continues to weave the compelling take of Jane Hawk and her fight to rid the world of the sinister nanotechnology plot that threatens to destroy them all. New alies are found in the unlikeliest of places and the plot thickens immeasurably, in extremely sinister and terrifying ways. Another not to be missed five star read in this insane world that Dean Koontz has created, taking us all on a vivid journey into a future that I most certainly would not want to be apart of.
Enjoyed this first book in the series – Koontz can write!
I’m reading the series.
I have read all his books I can’t see a way out for Jane but am looking forward to the next book
