A sexy standalone romance with a single dad you’ll fall hard for! It should be an easy rule to follow – don’t bang your boss…But I didn’t know who he was when I met him.And the first time I saw him, our connection sounded like the stuff of romantic legends — that whole “their eyes locked across a crowded room” moment that turned into more.I didn’t believe it. . . . until it … it. . . . until it happened to me.
Fine, the charming, clever, sexy-as-sin guy in the tailored suit was only trying to buy the same Snoopy lunchbox (as a gift!), but still, our eyes totally locked, and my lady parts definitely tingled as we vied for the prize.
Naturally, I did what any badass business woman would do. Negotiated for the lunchbox, then found my what-if guy online and made plans to see him the next night.
One night only — that was the deal we made.
But one fantastic night had us both changing our minds in the morning. And making plans for another.
Until I walked into the office to learn he just bought my company.
And here’s the biggest rule of romantic legends — no matter what, don’t bang your boss.
Especially if you’re already falling for him.
THE WHAT IF GUY is a sexy standalone you can escape into! The other standalone romances in The Guys Who Got Away series include Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend, Thanks For Last Night and The Dream Guy Next Door! A GUY WALKS INTO MY BAR is a standalone spinoff.

The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely is hands down the best ‘feel-good’ story I have read this year. It tops all Lauren’s other great books and believe me, that’s saying a lot. I don’t think I have smiled so hard while reading for- well, -ever. I just couldn’t stop.
From the opening pages depicting Logan and Brynn’s meet-cute, to the last tender word, I was caught up in the spell of this tale of a sexy, single dad and the woman who captures his jaded heart.
From the first thumb brush where electricity flew, I knew this was going to be a fun read, but it was so much more. It was sweet, cute, and very, very real. Logan and Brynn are both divorced, the reasons for them being so are brought up and are strikingly similar, so much so, that I thought Lauren was going to take part of this story in a different direction. But, while their exes get a mention and a scene or two, there’s not much more than that. There is zero angst, which is a refreshing change.
The chemistry between Logan and Brynn was off the charts hot. Their banter was fun and flirty, some downright dirty, and the sexy times were indeed that and a whole lot more.
With Logan being Summer’s brother, and Oliver’s best friend, we got to revisit that previous couple from Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend. Logan’s lovely little girl was folded into the story with ease and the feline features own POV’s are sure to be a hit with cat-lovers.
So, if you’re searching for the best of the new releases this week, then in my humble opinion, this is it!!! One-Click your copy today and I bet you’ll agree.
The What If Guy is classic Lauren Blakely! Logan Clarke is a sexy, single dad and Bryn is his perfect lady boss counterpart and this book couldn’t have been written any better! I love this series (The Guys Who Got Away) — guy friends living in New York and their meet cutes — there’s very little angst and a whole lot of chemistry, laugh out loud moments, flirty, fun and sexy times. I enjoyed re-visiting Summer and Oliver and the other friends from “Dear Sexy Ex Boyfriend” too. Throw an adorable, precocious 7-year-old and two very opinionated felines and you’re got yourself a winning read!
Eyes meet over a lunch box and the connection is instantaneous but the opportunity is missed. Enter the Missed Connections app and Bryn and Logan fund each other again. They are compatible in every way, seemingly completely perfect for each other. Until after the best night ever, they find out that Logan is Bryan’s new boss.
I felt so much disappointment when Logan walked in as the new CEO of The Dating Pool because I knew he was going to be the good guy and do the right thing. What cured my disappointment was the friendship that Logan and Bryn built while they were trying to deny that they belonged together. And the cats!!! Queen LaTofu and Bruce served as comic relief while their owners were getting it together.
This series is funny, packs some heat, and has so much heartwarming romance. I’m counting the days until Fitz’s story.
4.5 Sweet & Steamy Stars!
Sexy Single Dad – Yes Please! This is such a fun, sweet and steamy forbidden office romance. Logan is a wonderful, single father to his sweet little girl, Amelia. It is because of her that Logan has a meet cute over a snoopy lunch box with Bryn who writes for, and manages, a lifestyle blog/website. The sparks fly immediately and they make plans to meet for a date. They really connect over cocktails, witty & seductive banter, and shared desires and sizzling passion. They can’t wait to see each other again, making plans for another date. Unfortunately neither realized Logan was about to become her new boss! Bryn as worked too hard to have people think her success is because she slept her way to the top. They try to keep it professional, but their attraction and magnetic chemistry is too strong to ignore. Being truthful is also very important to both of them, so having a clandestine affair is out as well. The more time they spend together, the more they begin to realize, that just maybe, they could find a way to be more. This was everything I crave in my romance stories. Not only does it feature 2 hilarious felines, it also has strong, sexy characters, witty dialog, steamy passion, all wrapped up in a funny, heartwarming story!
A dashing hero that fills out a suit to perfection, commanding and confident in the boardroom and bedroom, and a doting father. Now sprinkle in a confident, charming, and kick-butt heroine and you have your newest book couple.
Logan is a single father and owns his own business. While busy and fulfilling, he finds himself in need of more, just not sure how to get it. When a brilliant meet-cute with a feisty Bryn Hawthorne happens, Logan doesn’t quite close the deal and he regrets it. But Fate intervenes, oh how she intervenes. One volcanic night with the promise of more erupts when Logan and Bryn realize that they’re now tied together in business. This simply can’t be happening!
This couple is a brilliant rom-com. It’s hot, it’s playful, it’s the stuff of book fantasies. Just be prepared to fall fast for this suity-single dad.
Purr-fect!
Loved it, couldn’t put it down, and if life didn’t get in the way, I would have had it finished in one sitting. LB does rom-com’s so well. She knows the balance between adding humor to romance and sexy, dirty times. This office, single dad romance will delight and entertain you from page one. There is an added bonus too, there’s a side romance we get to discover between Bruce and Queen LaTofu.
To be honest, the story line is not something new. Our hero meets a cute girl and they go on a date, later to discover he is now her new boss. What I loved about this book was the way they dealt with the dilemma. It wasn’t dramatized, it wasn’t dragged out for uncalled for angst. It was pure and believable on how each of them felt and how it affected their jobs and lives. After Logan’s divorce and being shut down for so long, he was ecstatic to find someone who he clicked with, who wanted the same things he did. Someone who treasured intimacy of the mind, body and heart along with love, things that were lacking for each of them in previous relationships. They felt connected to each other on many levels. I thought it was special they could be their true selves when alone together. Bryn discovers that Logan is filthy, sweet and businesslike all in one – a multitasking master! Logan finds out that not only is Bryn gorgeous, kind and smart, but she is an amazing lady boss. Logan had conquered his dream job and career and I loved that he encourages Bryn in every way to do the same, he doesn’t hold her back. Which to me is sexy all on its own!
I am truly enjoying this series and I’m looking forward to Frizy’s story and his meet cute with a guy in a bar.
The What If Guy is the second book in the The Guys That Got Away series by the ever-talented, Lauren Blakely. You can read it as standalone but if you did read Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend then you will remember Logan, Summer’s twin brother. The one who is very intense when it comes to paintball and has an adorable daughter. Well, it’s time for him to move on…
It all started with a lunch box. A Snoopy one to be exact. Followed by a spark and some seriously sexy eye-contact. And to round it off…flirty banter. It was definitely a fabulous meet-cute. Too bad a phone call interrupted and they walked away without exchanging numbers. It’s a good thing there is an up and coming app to help with that! If technology didn’t save the date then they might not have had the best first date of all time. Mind-blowing. Epic, really. So epic that they want to do it all over again. And again. Except they wouldn’t get the chance…
Bryn has worked her ass off as VP of a lifestyle site. She is a boss lady and boss ladies don’t sleep with the CEO. And that is exactly who Logan, the sexy suited man with the fuck do is. This would have been much easier if they talked about their work the night before except then they wouldn’t of have the epic part and they so needed that. They both needed that and not only that. They felt a connection. A real one. One they trusted. One they wanted. They are so screwed.
Logan and Bryn’s relationship is complicated. They want to explore what they could have without a scandal. They have both gone through so much in the past and they deserve to be happy. Is it worth the risk if it doesn’t work out? Bryn loves her job and she won’t lose it over a man. Logan wants what is best. It’s difficult when they both want to text. They could be colleagues and friends, right? Nothing wrong with that. I mean nothing wrong with sending pics of their cats late at night, right? Nope. Nothing.
This story is adorable, sexy, witty, flirty, funny, and everything in between. Logan is swoon-worthy with his alpha side and sweetness, his Clark Kent glasses, and love for his daughter. Bryn is definitely a boss lady with with directness and wit. Together, it’s everything. They just clicked from the very first look.
Overall…I laughed, I cried, I got hot and bothered and swooned. I had no idea Logan had it in him! Delish. It was so fun catching up with the group!
P.S I Queen LaTofu & Bruce
Quotes:
Lust sparks across my skin. I lift a hand and reach toward her hair, fingering the soft chestnut strands. “And I like the way your hair falls over your shoulder.”
Shuddering, she lets her gaze drift to my hair. “I like the way yours invites my fingers to run through it.”
Holy fuck. This woman is on fire.
This woman is a riddle inside a conundrum. She’s bold and direct on the one hand, and she’s borderline submissive on the other.
“How about you?”
I scoff. “Don’t look at me. I don’t share cake either.”
I love a book that actually leaves a smile on your face. And The What If Guy left me smiling long after the last page. So flirty, sexy and fun. A smart, successful woman accidentally hooks up with her new boss who also happens to be a hot, single dad that also loves his cat. How could you not love that scenario?!
The What If Guy was a fun, sweet, playful, and spicy story. Logan and Bryn were great characters and I loved their meet cute. I enjoyed Logan and Bryn’s amusing and hot chemistry and banter. It really made the story that much more pleasant. They made sense together and it was fascinating to see how they would navigate through everything. Logan was such a sweet dad to his daughter-loved the moments we got with them. And the friend group was truly amazing. I was laughing and smiling whenever they interacted together. Lauren’s books are always a win for me-amazing characters, awesome storyline, amazing writing, and the right combo of sweet, fun, and hot moments. The What If Guy had it all and I was completely engaged from beginning to end. Excited to read more from this friend group!
5 Holy Mother of Eye Contact Stars
One of the many things I LOVE about Lauren Blakely books is that there are these little nuggets that I pickup on while being completely and wholly entertained by her words and characters. In this case, there’s a vulnerability to Bryn that touched me on a very deep level. I so appreciate when this occurs in her books because it reflects real life and why we sometimes make the decisions we do.
Bryn and Logan meet one day over a Snoopy lunchbox and there’s a definite connection but before they can act upon this chemistry, life gets in the way. But thanks to social media and the fact that Bryn heads up the country’s top lifestyle website, she’s able to connect with Logan and let’s just say their connection is THROUGH THE ROOF hot!!! But alas, we soon discover that Logan isn’t a sexy and swoonworthy single dad, he’s also Bryn’s new boss!!
This puts a little curve in their road to getting together again, but sometimes rules are meant to be bent when there’s a connection such as these two have. Their chemistry is not only physical, which I love. There’s so much more to each of them and what they’re looking for in a relationship matches perfectly. I loved their double-entendres which were all sorts of sexy! And can we talk about Bruce and Queen LaTofu for a hot minute? These are truly the perfect names for these feline secondary characters and I found myself snort laughing while reading their entries into their diaries…I can so see cats talking like this because they are little dictators of sorts!!
The more I read this book the more I loved it. I loved how they want to find a solution to them being co-workers because when love comes along, you’re willing to do almost anything to “get the girl and/or guy” because you don’t want to miss out on what could be the greatest love of all time! And Logan’s daughter Amelia is a sweet and smart little girl that enhances this story so much. When you add in Fitz, Oliver, Summer and the people that work with Bryn this is a trifecta of a book and I’m not so patiently waiting for the audiobook to drop so I can get all this goodness in my ears!!

I do believe I have found my feel-good book of the summer. The What If Guy is classic Lauren Blakely all the way as she gives us intelligent characters, a smoldering love affair and a tenderness that is unmatched. Logan and Bryn have both been burned before but from their electric meet-cute whilst grabbing a vintage Snoopy lunchbox (I mean, seriously, how can you not think that is adorable?), I think both knew what they were feeling was more than just a spark from holding a metal object between them.
Although this is a familiar kind of trope where both realize after an intense night together that they are now in fact working together, the book gets the special Blakely treatment and it’s handled respectfully and beautifully from start to finish. It’s actually quite the conundrum as to whether Logan and Bryn can be together personally and yet maintain a professional relationship that doesn’t destroy whaat Bryn has worked so hard to establish. With Logan taking over Bryn’s company, this boss lady has created a strong relationship with both her staff and her subscribers and I loved that the single dad both recognized that fact and didn’t want her to jeopardize her work.
The chemistry is insane between our couple and the way they let go in the bedroom has both of them craving more and determined to find a way to keep this newfound affair afloat. With help from friends on both sides, who are smart and provide the support and well-intentioned opinions when needed most, I couldn’t help but want Bryn and Logan to find that perfect solution that would keep their hearts firmly together no matter what.
Thankfully, the wait is never too long with a Blakely romance and I can happily confirm that the HEA is well worth all the back and forth with a semi-reunion after days apart setting my Kindle on fire. Oh and in addition, to keep things a bit light, chapters in the minds of Bruce and Queen LaTofu are witty and add the right comic touch when things are going a bit awry. Their advice, albeit at times done by sheer will, had me smiling huge at how clever they could be. True writing brilliance right there! Not to mention, the cameos by past Blakely heroines who truly are goddesses in their own right. Something that sets apart her work from so many others.
All in all, please know that this is not a story filled with a ton of angst. Instead, and in the words of the Author, it has trust, honesty, laughter, great sex and love. And for me, you can’t get much better than that.
5 solid stars!

* 5 perfect stars *
The What If Guy starts off with one of my favorite meet-cutes which immediately had me in love with this story….and I was barely through the first chapter! I loved everything about this deliciously fun, sexy office-romance/ forbidden-love/ single-dad story. It had all of the ingredients I crave in a story: a swoon-worthy adoring single dad who will make your ovaries pop, a smart, driven independent heroine, instant chemistry, supremely sexy times, witty banter and lots of laughs. Lauren Blakely once again delivered the perfect rom-com that readers will adore.
Logan is the perfect book boyfriend! I fell hard for this sexy single dad. He ticks every one of my boxes and had me swooning throughout. And don’t even get me started on his adorable daughter! Amelia was the cutest and her relationship with her dad was precious. He was attentive, dedicated, loving and fun—the perfect dad! I was envious of Bryn not only because of Logan but also because she’s so in tune with her body. She speaks her mind and asks for what she wants. And I just adored her love of all things kitschy! It was so fun! Together Logan and Bryn had incredible chemistry. Try as they might, they never could stay far away from one another. I loved everything about their relationship from the moment they first connected to the perfect happy ending that these two richly deserved. Sigh……talk about swoon! Don’t miss this amazing story that quickly jumped up the ranks as one of my favorite Blakely books. You’ll love every minute of it! 5 stars
The newest Blakely Boy is one HOT, secret dominant who covers all the bases. Logan is super swoon-worthy, handsome, smart, knows his way around the boardroom and bedroom. But, most importantly he is a single dad to super cute 7 yr old, Amelia. She stole my heart, and wished I could have seen more of her. She was perfect. Bryn is of course smart, beautiful, and knows what type of woman she is. This story swept me in so fast, the chemistry between Logan and Bryn is off the charts. One of my favorite parts of this story is that they didn’t fight the attraction very much. They were explosive together. The sexual banter that the author created is fun, hot, and moves these two to the next level of attraction. Of course there is conflict but it is written with style, sexy banter, and a lot of creativity. This book is so fun, steamy in more places than just the bedroom, and some very light kink which makes for quite a bit of that steam I was talking about. Don’t forget the single-dad factor, so sexy. Why are single dads so sexy? Hmmm….maybe you should read it and make your own conclusion. I have mine! Oh, the author even brings in a character from the past which helps up the fun. I totally love it when previous characters come back to visit. I totally loved The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely. It was fun, sexy/dirty talk from both Logan and Bryn, chemistry through the roof, super sexy stuff in and out of the bedroom. We even get some insight from Logan and Bryn’s cats. Those are fun as well. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. 5 stars
I am going to preface this review by saying that Lauren Blakely is one of my absolute favorite authors, and her novels are always an automatic one-click for me, so my love of Ms. Blakely’s work will definitely be evident in the following review.
The What If Guy is book two in the “Guys Who Got Away” series that started with Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend. Summer’s twin brother, Logan, is the male lead in the What If Guy. Each of these books are complete standalone romcoms, but as with most Lauren Blakely books, you get to revisit past characters and get sneak peeks at future characters in each book.
The What If Guy is a single-dad, office romance. It has all the trademark Lauren Blakely characteristics – witty banter, a swoon-worthy male lead, a strong and sassy female lead, first class flirtation, romance and steam, and so much heart that you just love what you are reading and don’t want to ever put it down. Logan and Bryn definitely deliver on my expectations and left me satisfied.
It all starts with a meet-cute showdown over a coveted lunch box that both Bryn and Logan want to buy. Their connection was instant, but they missed the opportunity to exchange contact information, and they turn to an app to find the missed connection. Thankfully the app proves itself more reliable and safer than Craig’s list does in real life!
Both Bryn and Logan are more mature, previously married/now divorced. The both know what they want and what they don’t want from a mate and in a relationship, but they both are a little uncertain about putting themselves out there again. But when Bryn finds out that Logan is actually her new boss, it puts a serious crimp in their plans.
Lauren Blakely ALWAYS creates strong, smart, sharp and determined female leads, which is a large part of why I enjoy her books. Her female leads don’t need a knight-in-shining-armor to rescue them or someone to ‘complete’ them – they need someone to complement them and support them, and that they can support in return. Byrn is no exception to this rule. She knows what she wants, both in her career and in the bedroom, and she makes sure that’s what she gets. She is a strong, successful leader at the lifestyle media group where she works, and she’s also truly respected by her coworkers. She’s easygoing, she has heart, and she has empathy and respect for others.
Logan is not only a thoughtful, supportive and attentive boyfriend to Bryn, but he’s also an amazingly devoted father. He does what he needs to do to have a successful career, but he also prioritizes family time.
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. I’m also looking forward to listening to the audio since I am such a big fan of Lauren Blakely’s audiobooks as well. She always lines up a great cast of narrators that capture the spirit of her writing, so it is always worth reading and listening her books as far as I’m concerned.
The What If Guy was so much fun to read. Bryn and Logan meet over an old school lunchbox in a game of who can outwit the other to get the prize. Each has their reasons for wanting this particular lunchbox. After some witty banter and some intense chemistry, Logan must leave and Bryn walks away with the purchase. What they both learn is that they were hoping to spend more time with the other even after such a small exchange in the quirky gift shop. With a push from their friends, they each look for one another using a new APP. They reconnect and find that they really enjoy each other’s company in many ways. Their first date and hot and steamy night together lead to the promise of a second date. Logan and Bryn quickly find out that they might have to cool the dating and remain friends.
Lauren Blakely’s The What If Guy is a story full of flirting, romance, and friendship that has you rooting for the couple from the very beginning. If you are looking to read a romantic comedy look no further, this book will have you reading with a smile on your face and a renewed hope that love can conquer all.
The What If Guy is a fun new rom-com from Lauren Blakely. This one had me smiling all the way through from the initial meeting of the hero and heroine to the cats that both of them own! There was so much to love about this book.
Logan Clarke is divorced and is the dad of a little girl. He is a CEO and hasn’t concentrated at all on his dating life since his divorce preferring to focus on his work, his daughter and his friends.
Bryn Hawthorne is the Vice President of a lifestyle website and while she’s smart and direct, she also embraces the fact that she’s a lady boss. That is something very important to her. She values her team and they often all have to use their real life experiences in their work. She too is divorced and was cheated on, so the idea of getting into another relationship isn’t high on her list.
When Logan and Bryn encounter one another while both looking at a Snoopy lunchbox, their initial meeting gets interrupted by a phone call and neither one of them leave the interaction with the information they had hoped for – a phone number. What they both know is that the sparks were flying between them! Bryn decides to take a leap and she posts on a website in hopes of finding Logan. She’s successful and they have a first date that had enough heat to cause an inferno! When something unexpected happens before their next scheduled date, will they go through with the date or decide that maybe this wasn’t meant to be after all?
Logan and Bryn bring out the best in each other. They both value honesty and when they open up to one another they allow the other to be their true, authentic self. I loved how great of a Dad Logan was and the cats that they each have are so enjoyable as well. They both have quite the personalities! Overall this was a steamy, witty read that I’d highly recommend!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
I’m a big Lauren Blakely fan anyway, but this book is my new favorite. I love the main characters – single dad Logan & Sassy lady-boss Bryn who kills it at work but has no luck in love. Add in Logan’s adorable daughter Amelia, two hilarious cats, crazy hot sex and fun friends & this book has it all. Lauren’s characters are people I want to be friends with. Get the book – I think you’ll enjoy it!
The What If Guy is a fun, sweet, sexy romance that will have you laughing and swoony.
From the moment Bryn and Logan meet over a Snoopy lunch box there was a connection, however, it quickly turned into a missed connection. Bryn is a boss lady and she knows it. She is smart and gorgeous but when it comes to behind closed doors, she has a submissive side. Logan is just the man she needs. These two will melt your kindle but also have you laughing from the start. I couldn’t get enough of them. I couldn’t get enough of Bryn and Logan. I loved watching their relationship progress. Their ups and downs and the struggles.
The added POV from their two cats was hilarious. I mean, don’t we all wonder what I pets think?! I was living for these chapters. I loved getting a little more of Summer and Oliver. Plus, Fitz.
The What If Guy will check all your romcom boxes. It brings the heat, the laughs and the romance from the very start.
Lauren Blakely has a way of writing good witty modern characters that are so human and three dimensional.
Brynn is the VP of contend in a lifestyle website specially in romance. Logan is the CEO of a media financial fund that seeks new business and in right now negotiating a big business purchase.
They meet by chance when both of them wants to buy a Snoop Lunchbox, he wants for his daughter Amelia and she for sentimental purposes (that it is worth to find out by reading the book). They are a match made in heaven and the internet search devices but business and the corporate world enter in they way of romance. Decisions should be made and Brynn is due to take a huge risk in her life to acomodate Logan.
This book is the ultimate conteporary romance, sexy with a great couple and a story to die for.
I loved it!
Such a good book! Loved Logan & Bryn’s meet cute, slightly missed connections & then their welcome to reality moment. This is a great group of characters from previous books & I cannot wait for more from them.
