A sexy standalone romance with a single dad you’ll fall hard for! It should be an easy rule to follow – don’t bang your boss…But I didn’t know who he was when I met him.And the first time I saw him, our connection sounded like the stuff of romantic legends — that whole “their eyes locked across a crowded room” moment that turned into more.I didn’t believe it. . . . until it … it. . . . until it happened to me.
Fine, the charming, clever, sexy-as-sin guy in the tailored suit was only trying to buy the same Snoopy lunchbox (as a gift!), but still, our eyes totally locked, and my lady parts definitely tingled as we vied for the prize.
Naturally, I did what any badass business woman would do. Negotiated for the lunchbox, then found my what-if guy online and made plans to see him the next night.
One night only — that was the deal we made.
But one fantastic night had us both changing our minds in the morning. And making plans for another.
Until I walked into the office to learn he just bought my company.
And here’s the biggest rule of romantic legends — no matter what, don’t bang your boss.
Especially if you’re already falling for him.
THE WHAT IF GUY is a sexy standalone you can escape into! The other standalone romances in The Guys Who Got Away series include Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend, Thanks For Last Night and The Dream Guy Next Door! A GUY WALKS INTO MY BAR is a standalone spinoff.

The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely
The What If Guy is the latest in Lauren Blakely’s RomCom repertoire and is possibly her sexiest one yet. After the meet-cute all meet-cutes aspire to be, and reconnection like no other, Brynn and Logan discover that Logan is in fact, Brynn’s new boss. Queue the shock and horror. They do their absolute best to keep things strictly on a professional level but who are we kidding here? The chemistry was off. the. charts. There was no way these two could keep the sexy things out of the relationship! Le sigh.
I lovvvvve single parent romances and Logan is probably one of the sexiest single dads around. I loved his relationship with his daughter – it was so sweet! He’s never been given the opportunity to express himself fully in a sexual sense and he’s delighted to discover that Brynn and he are two peas in a pod. Brynn herself has never had the freedom to just let go and vocalize her needs and she thrives in that regard with Logan.
These two characters really set the pages alight with the heat factor but I would have loved a little more heart. Both Logan and Brynn were extremely likable characters and I’m looking forward to more glimpses of them going forward. While I loved the main characters and the story itself, the cats really stole the show for me. Lauren Blakely writes brilliantly from *any* point of view – be it human or otherwise!
*I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

OMG, I loved this story about Logan and Bryn…and their cats, Queen LaTofu and Bruce! Both have suffered through a similar heartache, and thanks to their friends, decide to try a dating app to locate one another after a witty negotiation over a Snoopy/Joe Cool lunchbox! That playful conversation they first share continues through text messages, and you sense an instant connection between the two! The friendly banter and double entendre comments amps up the hot chemistry between the two…so much so, that they can’t seem to temper it when work technicalities threaten their new relationship. Loved their witty dialogue, the funny a-ha moments of their friends, and the real way they worked to earn their HEA!!
This series from Lauren has proven to be one of the bests ever. I’m absolutely in love with them. The first book went straight to my top reads of the year and The What If Guy is tight there behind. If you love the single dad and office romance tropes this is for you. But if you’re not sold yet, this book is fun, surprising, super steamy and full of romance.
Logan and Bryn had a connection when they first locked their eyes on each other. But due to fate, they didn’t had a chance to ask for each other’s number, that when, with the help of their friends, both have an idea to to use the app Made Connections to try to find one another. He was trying to find the Snoopy Lover and she was trying to find Mr. Lunch Box.
They both were looking for a casual thing, but from date one they knew they would be much more. They only couldn’t imagine that next day he would buy the company she works for.
I loved the couple so much and let me tell you, the dirty talks they both have is HOT HOT HOT! Bring the cool water. It ends up that they complement each other in everything in life, in bed, at work and at life. But what I love the most is that both of them wanted the same thing from a life partner: Trust, Laughter, Honest and an amazing time at bed.
Lauren outdid herself when she added the POV of Logan’s cat Queen LaTofu and Bryan’s cat Bruce. I laugh out loud every single time with their thoughts.
The ending was simple perfect and get this: there is 3 epilogues! Awesome. Now, Fitz or Fitzy, as Amelia call him, book is coming next and I can’t wait! I loved him so much from book one. The whole series is a MUST READ!
Love! So much love!! Everything about The What If Guy made my heart soar. With Lauren Blakely’s classic mix of well developed characters, witty dialogue, steam and heart; plus an added forbidden boss/employee element, there’s no doubt in my mind, this is one of my favorite reads of 2020.
From the very first eye contact, I knew Logan and Bryn were going to be explosive in and out of the bedroom. Their chemistry is off the charts. The way they naturally fall into conversation with complete honesty and no awkwardness is just so perfect. It’s easy to root for these characters.
Logan *wistful sigh* is a dream. An absolute dream. Look, single dads are already my weakness. But a sexy, successful, caring single dad who is also quite dominant in bed… *faints*… it’s time to pack it up and more forward because you will not find anyone better. I want Logan for myself.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the chapters told from the point of view of Logan and Bryn’s cats – Queen LaTofu and Bruce. I feel like Lauren Blakely is one of the few people who can pull off writing chapters from the POV of a pet and it’s not ridiculous. These chapters are hilarious and sarcastic. They add a little extra sass to the story. Loved them.
The What If Guy is such a fun read. If you want a cute office rom com where you will fall in love with the characters, the banter, and all the swoons then I highly recommend picking this one up. Lauren Blakely never lets me down.
This new rom com by Lauren Blakely is one for the books!!! It was hilarious and so dang hot I had to fan myself at times. I loved the quirky banter and chemistry between the duo.
Logan is a divorced father that lives for providing a good home for his daughter and hanging out with his friends. Love is the last thing he is worried about especially after the way his marriages ended. Bryn is a strong willed woman who knows what’s she wants. She’s got that quirky jaded mind that makes you love her even more. When her love for collecting things takes her to one of her favorite shops, she meets Logan while trying to each for the same lunch box. The shared a moment but what they didn’t realize was that they would soon be craving more. Things went great on their first date but they were in for a big surprise the next day when they find out that Logan is now her new boss. The biggest and hardest decision for them is whether or not to keep things professional or disclose their relationship
This is one funny rom-com! Everything starts over a Snoopy lunch box and it’s crazy from there going forward!!! They agree to one night but in the morning they are not satisfied but reality will throw a bucket of cold water on their future. They have two choice, either they go and forget everything or they try to make it work.? I loved Logan and Bryn together, he has finally met his match in every way and he can finally let his dominant side come out to play with Bryn who also happy to oblige. A great fun story with amazing characters and two devilish cats that have their own agendas. Lots of LOL moments with equal parts steaminess. I volunteered to review this arc.
Hooooooooooooly swoonfest!! This story is just the best kind of entertainment there is! It was an all around fun time with delicious sexy mixed in all wrapped up in a whole lot of heart!!
First … the meet-cute was just … I’m giddy just thinking about it!! #Snoopy
Second … these two were like something out of Candyland (and not in a bad way lol). They were just so easy to read! Lauren created exceptional characters in these two and made them perfectly compatible so the story could develop without angst and heaviness!
I’m come to appreciate Lauren Blakely so much in the last few years and especially this year. Her stories are lighthearted but not simple. The plot is always developed nicely and without holes. The characters and their actions are humorous with great chemistry. Above all, it’s just not over the top anything. They are just great stories that will put a smile on your face!

Logan and Bryn meet when they both have their eye on the same lunchbox. Right from the start you can feel the chemistry between them and once they start with the banter, it gets even more noticeable. There’s something between these two but they part ways with no way to get in touch with each other. Until Bryn has to write a piece about a new app and it leads her back to Logan. It feels like these two are meant to be but nope! Just when you think it’s all going to work out, they find out Logan is Bryns new boss and both decide to stop whatever it was they were starting. We all know how well that usually goes especially when there’s such an attraction between them.
This was a fun and sexy rom com. The banter is perfect, the story kept me hooked and the characters are great. I can’t wait for the next book in The Guys Who Got Away series.
From the very start this story grabbed my attention! From a crackling first meeting between the main couple, to fun and flirty banter, to a storyline with very little angst and a delightful cast of secondary characters I found much to entertain me. From the first page to the last I wore a perpetual smile while blushing a time or two along the way as this couple worked their way to HEA.
Logan Clarke’s a man still dealing with his divorce, a man who’s older and wiser, but still dealing with the hurt while figuring out where everything went wrong so it doesn’t happen again. He’s got a twin sister, and a supportive group of friends, who often mock him but at the end of the day they’re the ones helping him find happiness. He also has a daughter who he dotes on, a daughter who’s his everything, and whose interactions endeared him to me. Add in a pair of clever and eccentric cats and readers will find an unforgettable cast of characters who made this an even more delightful read. Logan’s a delicious hero, sexy with moments of uncertainty when it comes to his relationship with Bryn. As the story progressed though he definitely became more self-assured, letting loose an Alpha vibe when in Bryn’s presence that turned up the heat. There’s a lot of give and take between these two, a beautiful balance that made them perfect for each other and had me rooting for them…especially once their new relationship hit a snag over Logan becoming her boss.
Bryn Hawthorne’s a wonderful heroine, a strong-willed and confident woman when it comes to work. She’s energetic and outspoken, knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to let others know what’s on her mind…both in the bedroom and at work. This outspoken nature added an extra layer of eroticism to scenes that featured a bit of lite bdsm and I enjoyed these moments of power play. When it comes to her heart though she’s a bit more guarded. As a divorcée with an ex who cheated on her she’s a bit leery of the insta-attraction she feels towards Logan. With the support of her friends/coworkers (her best friend being a definite highlight throughout the story and one I’d love to see more of) she jumps in with her eyes wide open in an increasingly combustible connection. Finding out he’s her boss may cause a small hiccup, but their HEA is meant to be in a romance full of steam along with some heartfelt moments.
There was much that was familiar in this story, it’s a storyline that’s been done before, but Ms. Blakey does it oh so well. The main couple is immensely likable with interactions that practically jumped off the page. There were moments of sizzle balanced out by fun and flirty banter that felt more like foreplay and I couldn’t contain my smile as their growing connection brought me joy. I don’t normally care for kids in my romances but Logan’s daughter was a delight and I liked seeing his fatherly side come out. It made him the quintessential book boyfriend, a good and sexy man with a heart of gold. The secondary characters were equally appealing with each more than ready to take center stage. Logan’s sister had her story told previously so it was nice to get an update and it gave her an extra reason to want to see him happy. The character that has me most excited though is the sexy and snarky Fitz whose story is next and which has me counting down the days in breathless anticipation. Once again Ms. Blakey has crafted a winning romance, one that brought me smiles and blushes, and it is the perfect read for a scorching summer with events you want to escape from…it’s better than Calgon for its escapism that’s for sure!
4.5 stars
This book has all the usual hallmarks of a Lauren Blakely story: clever banter, fun times, lots of emotion, hot sexy times, a strong, smart heroine, and a swoony hero. But it also has the added bonus of hilarious cats!
A chance run-in in a little shop leads to an immediate attraction between single-dad Logan and boss lady Bryn. Their moment interrupted, they don’t get a chance to exchange names or numbers. They both later regret not pursuing the other, but connect with the help of an app for missed opportunities.
Both are jaded from past relationships and have a hard time making new connections. But the chemistry between them is scorching and won’t be denied, no matter what obstacles stand in their way.
These two burn up the pages while simultaneously pulling at your heartstrings.
And we can’t forget about Bruce and Queen LaTofu. These two felines steal each scene they’re in.
The What If Guy was an absolutely adorable and pantymelting hot romance from Lauren Blakey. It was sweet and die hard romantic. It was sexy and passionate. A combination of meet cute and office romance, The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely is another winner rom com.
When Bryn and Logan decided individually to post on the new dating app after their missed connection in a tourist shop over Snoopy lunch box, they were not aware that they will have a blast and their chemistry will be hotter than hell. Neither did they know that Logan is the new owner of the lifestyle website company where Bryn works.
Bryn is an admirable character. She is bold, smart, sexy and witty. At the same time, she knows what she wants in bedroom. A bit of naughty play, a bit of dirty fantasy and submitting her desire to a controlling Bossy man. And Logan is exactly that. He respects and adores Bryn in professional life and real life. But behind the door he becomes this gentleman savage! He is charming and witty and everything. POV of their cats were so hilarious! They fit like a puzzle and little bit of obstacle in work life won’t deter them.
Laughing, smiling and dying from the heat of Bryn and Logan’s passion. That’s The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely. An entertaining ride you cannot miss!

Elizabeth ‘Bryn’ Hawthorne is VP of content for The Dating Pool site. Logan Clarke is in media finance and has now acquired The Dating Pool site. A divorced father to a little girl, Logan hasn’t really dated more recently, similarly Bryn after her break up with her cheating ex hasn’t either. They meet at a gift shop where they both want the same snoopy lunch box. Gazes are held, sparks fly and Bryn and Logan are quite taken with each other. Alas they go their separate guy without getting each others number but in this day and age of social media apps, they make a post on a Made connections app and get reconnected.
I quite liked them together, their conversations were interesting. They were funny, flirty and sweet together. They both have cats, love snoopy lunch boxes, have a shitty ex and work in media. They connected from the moment they met, apart from the whole they can’t be together at the moment because Logan’s her boss now. Their story is quite a smooth sailing, resisting each other is difficult but they don’t really try hard. They are good people who deserve happiness. They were cute, sweet and so was The What If Guy.
This is quite shorter than what I was expecting, added with the fact that they had technically only known each other for 3 days, of which they spend on together and had one date. Granted it was a smashing date and they have great connection and chemistry. Then they find out that Logan is the boss of the company where Bryn works and not even two weeks later Logan and Bryn are ready to tell everyone at work they are together now. It just felt a little too quick for me. Also we never really get to know Logan beyond superficial level, we get quite a lot of Bryn’s life in comparison but the bare minimum of Logan and his daughter.
Don’t really remember if I’ve read Cat POVs in Contemporary before, I might have but I found it strange here. The most memorable one is from the Robin D’Owens Celta’s heart mate series but they are telepathic familiar cats on alien planet but I digress. I came to accept it later on in The What If Guy.
It’s perfect someone looking for light contemporary (low on angst), funny and short read with lovely chemistry, cast of characters and a easy plot to get lost in.

The What If Guy is the second book in The Guys Who Got Away series. It still reads as a standalone, even though some familiar characters from other series, and the previous book show up here. Logan and Bryn have the sweetest meet cute, fighting over a Snoopy lunchbox. You can tell these two have an incredible connection right from the start. But, they both leave without getting each other’s phone number, yet eventually find their way back to each other through an app. It turns out that he is her new boss, and things have to come to an abrupt halt there. The banter in here was out of this world, like some of the best banter I’ve ever read in a book! It’s a fun, steamy, office romance that I would highly recommend.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a story of a cat named Bruce and his coming to terms with living with a human and eventually meeting his soulmate Queen LaTofu…. Not really But Bruce and Queen LT makes for some unique and funny insight!
Really this is the story of Logan and Bryn. This is about their almost connection and when they do connect the launch of some of the most dynamic attraction and steam you have ever read!
Logan, divorced and single father and CEO of a media company but in the two years since his divorce has not been able to put himself out into the dating world. But an instant connection over a vintage snoopy lunch box might change that.
Bryn a smart and sassy VP of a lifestyle website is trying to take some of her website’s advice. Since her ex-husband cheated on her and left her when she needed to be loved the most, she hasn’t had the best of lucky opening up and finding that connection.
Logan and Bryn have an instant chemistry over Snoopy lunchbox with neither wanting to let go. However, the moment is quickly extinguished when the owner has a second lunch box and Logan receives a phone call. Both Logan and Bryn take to a miss connection dating app in order to see if they can reconnect.
This was a cute sassy quick read. This was a great example of the fun flirty stories we have come to love and expect from Blakey. This is the second offering in the The Guys That Got Away series and it was engaging from the start. I really liked the characters and how we not only saw their attraction but their vulnerability. Both have reasons to cautious. I liked how this story developed from missed connection to hot and heavy to have to pull back because of circumstances. It was such a good read with a few laugh out loud moments (mostly Bruce and Queen La Tofu).
This was a 4/5 read for me. I really enjoyed this and would highly recommend this for a fast and breezy read.
I have a girl crush… and one on the guy too! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
The What if Guy is absolute purr-fection! There is so much to love in this book. I’m seriously crushing on this couple and their cats too! You will love their furry charm and quirky attitudes! Our characters have the best meet cute involving the best cartoon character ever! They are just so AMAZING! This is my favorite Ms. Blakely characters to date… and yes I want to date Bryn and Logan… I’ll be the third wheel.
You are going to love this story as much as I do!

Absolutely loved this!
Logan is a single dad – the kind who would dance in the rain just to see his daughter smile… * sigh*
Yeah, he’s the perfect book boyfriend
Bryn is a smile
That’s the first thing that comes to mind. Her laughter is contagious, Her character is just so vivid, real.
The chemistry between these two?
You forget they are only fictional.
Whenever you pick up a Lauren Blakely book, you are guaranteed three things-a great and interesting story, believable characters, and most of all, all the feels she invokes while reading! I love this because I know she will entertain me every time! Her latest book, The What If Guy delivers on all accounts!
Bryn and Logan are a fun match! From their first meeting, they had sizzling chemistry. Soon we find out Logan’s company has bought out Bryn’s and he is now her boss! Yikes! They know they cannot “see” each other again…. But what if a chance like this never comes around again??
I totally loved this romance! The dance they played was amusing to watch happen and very believable! I loved both characters and their cats too! Lauren even treats us to the cats POV too-which is super funny! Read this book! The story is highly entertaining and it leaves you with so many feel good vibes you can’t help but be satisifed!
If your looking for a book that will leave a heartwarming feeling in your heart then The What If Guy is one you don’t want to miss.
The Fantastic Meet Cute between Logan & Bryn in a fun shop over a Snoopy lunchbox just makes you smile. The chemistry is amazing and off the charts steamy but the feelings they discover shows you that a second chance at love is something that is out there and you never know where and how it will happen. Just having a peak inside there relationship knows that if you want that HEA it can turn up when your not expecting it.
I loved Bryn and Logan. Their eyes met and it was an instant connection but they also had an immediate flirty, witty banter that had me hooked.
This was a book to get lost in and you get to escape reality in a lighthearted but highly entertaining feel good romance the perfect amount of witty banter, feels and steam. I loved that there wasn’t any over the top angst, Bryn and Logan are in their 30’s and they acted as such. They were honest and blunt from the beginning and I honestly loved that.
I love Logan’s relationship with his sister and friends their teasing banter made me giggle. I can’t wait to fall in love with Fitz
Logan and Bryn’s story was absolutely wonderful. From the banter and the immediate attraction between them to the cats each own and we hear from. And you can never go wrong with adorable children. Logan’s daughter Amelia is so sweet. The chemistry between these two is there from the start. The whole idea in which they end up connecting after their first meet up was great. It was genius. Even though both have been hurt in the past they seem to be open to finding out what will happen as they get closer. I believe this is one of the most passionate and sexy reads by far from Ms Blakely. It has all the wonderful feels you are looking for in a romance book. As always I love the appearances of characters from her previous books. All around great read with an amazing HEA! I can not wait for the other books in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
