A sexy standalone romance with a single dad you’ll fall hard for! It should be an easy rule to follow – don’t bang your boss…But I didn’t know who he was when I met him.And the first time I saw him, our connection sounded like the stuff of romantic legends — that whole “their eyes locked across a crowded room” moment that turned into more.I didn’t believe it. . . . until it … it. . . . until it happened to me.
Fine, the charming, clever, sexy-as-sin guy in the tailored suit was only trying to buy the same Snoopy lunchbox (as a gift!), but still, our eyes totally locked, and my lady parts definitely tingled as we vied for the prize.
Naturally, I did what any badass business woman would do. Negotiated for the lunchbox, then found my what-if guy online and made plans to see him the next night.
One night only — that was the deal we made.
But one fantastic night had us both changing our minds in the morning. And making plans for another.
Until I walked into the office to learn he just bought my company.
And here’s the biggest rule of romantic legends — no matter what, don’t bang your boss.
Especially if you’re already falling for him.
THE WHAT IF GUY is a sexy standalone you can escape into! The other standalone romances in The Guys Who Got Away series include Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend, Thanks For Last Night and The Dream Guy Next Door! A GUY WALKS INTO MY BAR is a standalone spinoff.

Single dad stories are my kryptonite. So I knew this book was going to be a must listen and it was everything I could have hoped for right now. Logan is such a swoonfest, he’s charming and sexy—hello suit and tats—he’s funny, and is an attentive father. Oh, did I forget to mention the dirty talk? My bad. Because he is so good at it. What’s not to like?
Bryn is the type of woman you want to be your friend. She’s funny and sweet. I loved that she not only respected Logan’s relationship with his daughter but cherished it.
Logan and Bryn’s first meeting is one for the record books, I just loved the serendipitous of it. Their chemistry was palpable from the get-go, and I was so pleased they found each other again. Their first night turned that heat factor up to ten! And it never really came down, they were explosive together. But more than that, I loved how they connected on a personal level, talked and understood each other’s vulnerabilities. Their banter was spot on, and as you know, I love me some good banter.
In typical Lauren fashion, she hooks the reader/ listener from early on with addictive storytelling, swoony romance, and witty banter. Lauren knows how to keep those pages turning or in my case, keep me listening well into the early hours of the morning. This book is steamy and has low angst, which I loved. It’s funny and charming. It is the type of feelgood storytelling that we need in the world right now. It’s definitely going on my summer must listens list.
Let me be really real with you. When I heard this book had cats in it…as characters with their own chapters, I had a WTF moment. Then I heard the chapters, and they were fantastic and really added to the story. The difference between Bruce and Queen LaTofu and how they viewed their catdom was hilarious. It just goes to show that our gut reaction isn’t always right, sometimes we have to experience something new and different to find out how much fun it is. And the cat chapters were complete fun. I will never look at my own cat the same way again.
Joe Arden and Andi Arndt were fantastic. The story is performed in duet, everyone knows I’m a huge fan of duet narration and this one doesn’t disappoint. The cats, Brue and Queen LaTofu are performed by Santino Fontana and Emma Wilder and it worked so perfectly. Newcomer, Connor Crais makes a cameo – I’ll leave you to discover where, but it gives you a good peek at his range, and I’ll tell you, this girl is ready for more! Joe was just brilliant as the dirty talking, Logan. His little girl voice is sweet and didn’t feel like overkill, and his dad scenes were just enough to make a person melt. Then he hit me with a ’sweetheart’ and my swoon meter broke. I don’t think there could have been anyone better for this character. I might have had a tiny little issue with one of the voice, but I believe that to be a personal taste thing. His voice complemented Andi’s perfectly. Andi is the feisty lady boss, Bryn, who she narrates with such a beautiful balance of sass and vulnerability that it was a joy to listen to. The production was flawless.
You get a few bonus features with this baby. Bloopers. A sneak peek of A Guy Walks Into A Bar, Lauren’s first MM book coming next month, which is performed by Joe Arden and Shane East. A fireside chat between Joe & Andi. Plus, chapter 14 performed in dual narration by Santino Fontana.
The What if Guy by Lauren Blakely is the second book in her The Guys Who Got Away series. What do you do when you connect over a snoopy lunch box? The power of the internet and the modern world can give you a hand and a hot and heavy night. Great right? But what happens when you find out the next morning that you are in a Boss/Employee relationship? When you are Bryn Hawethorne and Logan Clarke you try to do the right thing and move on. But the world can have other plans. Logan as a single dad with his history needed Bryn in order to reignite and the chemistry between them is so strong that it doesn’t take them long to connect and build something real.
With The What if Guy, Lauren Blakely creates another fun and sexy, (yet adorable) stand-alone contemporary romance with dynamic characters that draw you in and make you want a HEA for every time. I very much recommend this book and hope for more to follow.
(I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book I received for free in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
What a fun book. Bryn Hawthorne is the badass manager of a successful dating website, that gets sold to a new investor. All is great until she learns that the new owner is the guy she met and had a searing hot night with – the night before meeting him at work!
Logan is a sweet hero, he’s a great dad, he’s a great ex-husband, he treats Bryn with the utmost respect in every way.. Super swoony…
Both characters are struggling with learning how to trust again, as they were both treated pretty badly by their respective exes. But their connection is absolutely electric, and neither one of them wants to pass up the chance that their connection could grow into more. So they decide together that they will disclose their relationship to the rest of the company, and go from there. But of course – it doesn’t go quite as smoothly as they may have liked! But the end is perfect for them – fits Bryn’s personality to a T.
My favourite parts of The What If Guy are the chapters told from the POV of Bryn and Logan’s cats: Bruce and Queen LaTofu. The cats are hilarious as they act as counsellors and wise guides to their people. I was literally laughing out loud. The What If Guy is super cute and a fun distraction. Plus we get to meet the hero of Lauren’s next book – Fitz from A Guy Walks Into My Bar… I can’t wait for that one!
This book is funny, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
Lauren Blakely always writes a book that can’t be put down.
While thinking about the science of romantic eye contact, which is going to be published on the website she oversees for content, she stops in a tchotchkes type shop for a snoopy lunch box. As her hand lands on the handle so does the hand of a very handsome male.
All the sparks from her article about eye contact is there. But as she is negotiating not only the keepsake she contemplated a date. However the mystery man receives a call and she rushes out of the store.
Logan is a single father who adores his daughter. And after the divorce he had with his ex-wife he’s a little bitter about the love game. But when he mentions his run in with the mystery woman to his friends and sister the recommend him posting to the new and hip way to to attempt a missed connection.
While Bryn is meeting with her staff for their next article for their dating website, the new app for connecting with people “made Connections” is brought up when she tells her story about mystery man in the shop. She is asked to write the article to see if the app real does help make a connection.
Both have placed their notifications on the app and the connection was made. They make plans to meet up for the missed date neither was able to ask about in the shop.
Sparks fly for the couple until they find out, Logan is now the boss who has bought the dating website Bryn works for. They both discuss that they can not date.
However, their chemistry won’t let the sparks burn out to ash. It just keeps burning hotter.
Can they keep up the professional limits?
Lauren Blakely never disappoints and I always enjoy diving into the worlds she creates. The characters are fun and each book has a unique premise. Logan was absolutely dreamy and Bryn is the type of character I’d love in my friend group. The What If Guy has everything- it’s witty and delightful with just the right amount of heat and steam. I purchased the audiobook and was so excited to see that Andi Arndt and Joe Arden performed it duet style- that adds so much to the experience in my opinion. Santino Fontana and Emma Wilder voiced Logan and Bryn’s respective cats and it was a cute addition to the story. Blakely has taken to giving readers special extras (narrator chats, bloopers etc) at the end of her audiobooks, and they are always enjoyable. The What If Guy is fantastic and definitely worth a credit!
Where to start and what to say that hasn’t already been said…..
If you are looking for a fun, entertaining read with adorable characters look no further than The What If Guy ( the Guys Who Got Away #2). I was captivated from the first page and there was no putting down until I had read the final line and even then I wanted more from Logan and Bryn and their cats Queen LaTofu and Bruce and yes these cats do get a couple of chapters to themselves.
Ms Blakely is one of my go to authors and as soon as I read the blurb for this book I was excited because let’s be honest she is the queen of romantic comedy and once you add in the single dad angle you are sure to have the perfect read. In these uncertain times I’m sure we are all looking to escape into our books and The What If Guy is the ideal book to help you leave the world behind, the characters are adorable, the banter is witty and funny and the chemistry is sizzling hot. This series is one I will certainly read and re-read because this author’s writing has drawn me in and made me feel like I’m part of this group of friends who share so much love and humour. I’m so excited for the next book in this series and it can’t come soon enough. This is a book about friendship, Soulmates, love and taking a leap of fate when you least expect to. I urge you all to one click this gem.
The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely is a wonderful summer read. A slow burn. low on drama with characters I loved to connect with. It’s a co-workers romance that I enjoyed to read.
Take a single dad, a Bryn, a Snoopy Bread Box, a dating app, let LB mix it, shake it, and voila, another fantastic read by this author.
Who doesn’t love a “don’t bang your boss” forbidden romance with amazingly quirky characters! Lauren Blakely has done it again with another sex-positive goddess who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it! Introducing a super sexy single dad with an adorable child and you have me hooked, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. This story is adorable and quirky and sexy and fun! I just love Lauren’s world with the bars, coffee shops, quirky characters, and low drama. The inner dialogue of the cats is hilarious and perfectly supports the mood. Bryn & Logan meet and come together in a truly adorable way, and who wouldn’t fall for the sexy single dad! They are super sexy, but also original and quirky. Loved it!!
Andi & Joe in duet deliver fantastic performances as the main characters with Santino Fontana and Emma Wilder as the fabulous felines and Connor Crais as the voices of the internet! Audiobook Excellence!!
Make sure you don’t miss the extras! Cat epilogues, Fireside Chat with Andi & Joe, A Special chapter by Santino, BLOOPERS. And a sneak peak at Fitz’ story from A Guy Walks Into My Bar. So excited for that one coming next month!!!
The What If Guy was super cute and fun. These two have an adorable meet cute and have chemistry from the start! I love how they vibed with each other immediately. Logan and Bryn were all the ooey gooey happiness I needed in my life!
From the adorable meet-cute to the amazing ending this was my kind of book. This was fun and flirty and filled with low angst. There was a beautiful connection of souls and love you only find in a lifetime mixed with lots of combustible chemistry to melt your kindle. I loved everything about this book from beginning to end and cannot wait for Fitz to fall and fall hard.
Lauren Blakely’s audiobooks are always fun, she has such great narrators and fun stories. The What If Guy took things to a new level; Joe Arden and Andi Arndt are always good, but I was blown away with the emotions Joe Arden instilled his character with. Logan was an amazing person.
Logan and Bryn meet in a gift shop when they both reach for the same Snoopy lunchbox. Later, they connect through social media and have a date where they realize this is a relationship that has potential, until they meet at work and Bryn and Logan discover he has just bought the company where she works. This story also had Logan’s cat and Bryn’s cat with their own voices and stories/opinions. And then add in an adorable seven year old and it was the most pleasant, angst free book I’ve read in a long time.
If you have the audiobook I recommend listening all the way to the end, there was so much bonus content and some of it had me laughing so hard I was afraid I was going to wake up my husband, who was sleeping upstairs.
4.5 STARS!
I adored The What if Guy!!! It’s entertaining, swoony, sweet, and delicious. The perfect blend of humor and heat with a whole lot of love, I couldn’t put it down!
“What if your what-if guy is looking for his what-if girl?”
The meet cute is great and I was hooked from the start. Logan and Bryn are just so fun, and I couldn’t keep the smile off my face when they are together. Logan is a swoony single dad with a sweet daughter who melted my heart. Bryn puts everything into her job and is a hard worker. She has a fantastic personality and stays true to herself.
When Bryn and Logan meet, they connect but when a phone call makes them part ways before names are shared, they are bummed they may never see each other again. It’s a missed connection so Bryn tries out the Made Connections App and they reconnect leading to an unforgettable and steamy night. Unfortunately, Logan turns out to be her new boss, so they step back and realize they can only be friends. However, keeping their hands to themselves proves to be harder than they thought when their connection grows stronger with every interaction.
This book is wonderful. It’s full of laughs and so much heart. Bryn and Logan mesh so well in and out of the bedroom. I loved how they get to know each other and form a true friendship. They are just what the other needed and there was no drama between them. They were functional and fun and an adorable couple.
“How is it possible that I met you two weeks ago and I already need you in my life this badly?”
Even though there are some realistic challenges, there’s very little angst and I loved that it was such a feel-good read. I needed something super lighthearted and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the premise and the plot and enjoyed how everything comes together. I was just so happy while reading this book.
I also loved reconnecting with Summer and Oliver from Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend , and I can’t wait for more. Fitz’s book, A Guy Walked into My Bar, comes out next, and then we get more Ransom in his book, Thanks for Last Night. So excited for more of this fun group!
I absolutely love the premise of the “what-if” relationships. I’m pretty sure most of us have had those moments we think back on and wonder what would have happened if we made a move with someone or did something different. Bryn and Logan had a connection the moment their eyes met but life happened and they missed their moment, until they both tried to find the other on an app. Logan and Bryn had great chemistry and the honesty between the two was one of the best things in my opinion! They both knew what they wanted and were not willing to hide it or sacrifice it anymore. It was really nice to read a romance that wasn’t filled with assumptions or miscommunications because these two had that mastered. The What if Guy was a cute, sweet romance that didn’t have any real angst… just a couple who were trying to figure out how to make things work with the life they had.
What a great set of characters that you can’t help to love. They’re funny and sexy and their first meeting just about did me in. Their chemistry is palpable and the story itself flows so well. You can’t help but keep reading.
I am loving this series!
The What If Guy is Logan’s story–Summer’s twin and Oliver’s BFF. He’s a single dad to precocious Amelia (his seven-year-old daughter) and Instagram-ready Queen LaTofu (her cat). Since his marriage imploded, he’s focused on his work–until a chance meeting over a Joe Cool lunchbox and a new dating app make him decide to give dating a chance.
So of course that date turns out to be with an employee at the company he’s just purchased–and their one night stand becomes a thing of the past instead of a relationship with a future.
Or does it?
The What If Guy is a fluffy and fun rom com that had me laughing out loud on one page and turning up the fan on the next. The hero and heroine’s cats narrate their own chapters! (OMG, LOL) Bryn tells Logan on their first date that vanilla just isn’t her flavor! (Does this A/C even work?) The angst is relatively low-key, and their office romance is refreshingly free of any real squick factor–I love that Ms Blakely has them both act like the consenting adults they are here *and* makes me both laugh and swoon while she does it. Oliver and Summer from book one ( Dear Sexy Ex-Boyfriend ) play supporting roles here, and the next two books in the series are hinted at in the epilogue (Cannot. Wait!); all in all, this was the perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon!
Rating: 4 stars / A-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Bryn and Logan meet when they both reach for the same Snoopy lunch box, the instant attraction was alive and well…..until they discover who Bryns new boss is. This book was sweet with fun banter and guest appearances of Queen LaTofu and Bruce who were funny on their own. Yet another fun read by Lauren Blakely.
The What If Guy is the second book in the The Guys Who Got Away Series. This is a sweet and sexy Office Romance, and Single Dad Romance. I like the smooth pace of the story, and the undeniable and beautiful chemistry between Logan and Bryn. The cats are such an original addition to the story. Joe Arden and Andi Arndt did a wonderful job with the narration. Santino Fontana and Emma Wilder did a fantastic job bringing the cats to life. I enjoyed it.
Bryn has found something she wants but may have come away with more. Logan regrets the choices he’s made. Will he learn by his mistakes? This story shows the process our characters go through in order to get a second chance. They certainly create plenty of heat.
We have two secondary characters that are quite unique. It was interesting to get their perspective on things. In this particular book, I came to look forward to their chapters and they always left me wanting more. It certainly was an interesting way to see how creative the author is. The only disappointment here was that I didn’t laugh – not even a chuckle.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the story but I have come to expect at least a good chuckle from the author. I was still hooked enough that I hated having my attention pulled away from the book. The good thing is that it can be read as a standalone since I haven’t read the first book of the series yet. But once I met Oliver I knew that was going to have to change. I’m also interested to see what book three is going to bring to the table.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
The What If Guy was a flirty, swoony, steamy and utterly charming romcom that kept me so entertained I read it through in one sitting. With their captivating meet-cute full of witty exchanges Logan and Bryn quickly nabbed my full attention. Finding love again isn’t easy but these two formed an intense and effortless connection that had me falling right along with them.
Bryn was a true lady boss with a driven, sharp, engaging and witty personality. I loved how she knew just what she wanted and was never shy about expressing her needs. Logan was an fascinating combination of successful businessman, dedicated single father and true gentleman though I definitely enjoyed when his deliciously dirty mouth came out to play. These two were a perfect match who brought out the best in one another and kept me laughing, sighing and swooning until the last page.
The What If Guy was just the right combination of wit, swoonworthy moments, steaminess and all the feels wrapped in one delightfully entertaining read. I’ve loved meeting all the amazing and intriguing guys who got away in this fantastic series and can’t wait to see what’s in store next.
