fun read
What an amazing story about love and betrayal! It began in a dark place, as a reader, you are just thrown right to the wolves! It starts with a frenzy, there is panic and a chase and right away, I was hooked. This novella reads fast, the scenes just flow one to the next, holding your interest constantly. The characters, you will love them or abhor them, but they will definitely touch you in some way. Galen wants what is his, and Andrea is an awful, awful character. As they get fleshed out, these people will grow on you. From the first page, I am totally Team Lissa, and that is an easy call. Lissa is desperate to save herself and her unborn baby. She is at times timid and unsure, which makes sense because of the way she is living and what she is running from. She is mostly portrayed as strong-willed and independent, comfortably comfortable with herself and her place in the world. I love a good character driven story, and this one is most decidedly in that category. I loved the characters, obviously. The pace is steady and flawless, you don’t fall off in the middle wondering what comes next. There are a few editing issues but they didn’t take away from the quality of the storytelling. Celia Kyle, genius that she is, consistently hooks readers with realistic characters and emotional storylines. I read this in a slow afternoon at work, the best day on the job ever! Read this! You will love it too!
Melissa ran after the Alpha bitch threatened her and her baby. Galin came after them, typical Alpha male thinking he knew what was best. Melissa doesn’t understand wolf culture and everyone including Galin assumes she does, so her running is seen as a slight towards Galin. It’s almost too late when Galin and those tasked to keep Melissa safe realise their mistakes.
I really enjoyed this short story but my only issue was I wish we had more backstory given to us when Galen and Melissa met so the beginning of the story would have been less confusing. Overall a great story. My heart broke for Melissa you couldn’t help but feel bad for her the struggle and the pain she went through. But she handled herself really well or to be expected as a sheep amongst wolves.
Wow, this was pretty good considering it’s only 140 pages. There are some intense moments, lots of surprises, & a great HEA! Definitely enjoyed it.
Throughout this book I couldn’t shake the feeling that I missed something rather important. It was as if Celia Kyle dropped her readers in the middle of the book. There were few references ever made to what went on between the two main characters before. This left me feeling lost and unable to really understand the character’s behaviors. If you are to start a book like that it would really help the readers out if there were more detailed flashbacks into the past.
As far as the two main characters, Galen and Lissa, I felt like they were okay but not genuine. Lissa’s personality was driving me crazy. I liked how determined and strong she was when she first appeared but the rest of the story she goes back and forth between that and a quiet submissive who just takes the abuse. The same inconsistency could be said for Galen. He would be dominating and ruthless as he dismissed Lissa as if she were nothing then the next minute he would show compassion towards her and their baby. As a reader the main characters personalities just didn’t feel real enough to allow me to feel a connection and love these characters.
Overall, Celia Kyle does know how to take readers on a journey to another world with her writing. I felt like I was living the scenes she wrote out. Despite the timeline and the characters I did enjoy this unique take on a shifter story and I would give her books another chance.
