I absolutely loved the writing style of this author. I didn’t even know that I liked a type of writing style until I read this book. I thought Wendy was wonderful and I absolutely loved Hook and Pan. I enjoyed how she took these known characters and gave them more style. Very enjoyable. The only thing I don’t like is having to wait for the next book. I would rather read a very long book and not have to wait.
Interesting take on Peter Pan and Wendy. Looking forward to the next book.
An twist on the Peter Pan concept
This is a very creative variation of the (first part of) the story of Peter Pan, which feels set in alternative history (made me think of Harry Turtledove). And all the characters are young adults rather than children, which is an unusual twist. Wendy has dreamed all her life of working on a ship and has struggled for a place in a society that does not encourage working women–vis a vis England late 19th century. She is very loyal to country and countrymen, which includes condescending if also handsome naval captain Hook but is beginning to notice that the mysterious magical enemies of the state actually treat her much more respectfully. One thing I appreciate very much is I can’t actually disagree with Wendy’s decisions thus far in the story, even though I feel (knowing the original story of Peter Pan) that she will regret some of them. I don’t usually bother to watch for sequels but I’m going to have to watch for the sequel to this one.
This book was well written and had an interesting twist on a,classic story. I would read the next book in the series.
Well written, enjoyed the twist on a familiar tale.
An alternative version of Peter Pan, all the familiar characters are here but…Wendy is an orphan, smart, tenacious, ambitious and seeking to live a more expansive life than normal for women in the late 1700s-early 1800s. We get her back story but not those of John, Michael (they’re not siblings) and Captain Hook, who she meets as an adult while working as an agent of the Crown. John & Michael are fellow agents and Hook is their superior, all of them involved in a hush/hush assignment to counter supernatural doings in England (Nana is involved as well). Peter Pan is also an adult and Tinker Bell is well Tinker Bell. Interesting re-telling of a classic & I’m looking forward to the next installment.
Inspired retelling of Peter Pan story- looking forward to the next book. great for all ages.
I loved this book, it was an interesting new take on the Peter Pan story. I loved how all the characters were portrayed and how the author made them come to life throughout the book.
Surprised I liked this unique version of Peter Pan characters.
A fun take on the Peter Pan story
If you like Peter Pan stories you will love this twist of the story
I really enjoyed the way the characters were developed
What a fun retelling of this story! It’s really clean, fun and intriguing; I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
I love those ‘twisted fairytales’. Old fairytales rewritten with a different twist. This is certainly one of those. It is wonderfully different. Well written. I haven’t finished it, but so far I love what I’ve read.
Totally engaging turn of the Peter Pan tale….
This was a great adaptation of Peter Pan! Very interesting take on the story. I felt that some parts got a bit dry whereas others were hilarious (usually when it was a part involving Peter Pan and the Lost Boys). However, I ended the book excited for the next one!
I love the twists and turns on Peter Pan. Delightful and entertaining
A bit of a slow start but soon it became clear that the story was written in the same style as the original Peter Pan book. Really enjoyed it!
This is the first in a promising new series. I am looking forward to Wendy’s next adventure.
